This did not go well. I hired my designer to help me with the design and layout of a patio and pergola. My designer helped me decide on the patio size and placement of all the furniture we wanted in there. She also gave me her ideas on what other features (from a design perspective) what would make the pergola look good. I called this company for the pergola and also stated I wanted a patio installed. BEFORE Kregg would even come to my home and give me an estimate, he "required" I agree "over the phone" to hire him and give him a $500 deposit when he came to my home, which is out of the norm. Most contractors will come and give you an estimate, and then you get 1 or 2 others to compare it to. This should have been a red flag. Heck, I didn't even get a chance to meet him before I decided if we could work well together. I should have taken a pass, as he brought over another lousy contractor to install the patio, which we also had many issues with. My designer came to the first meeting we had. We spent TWO hours talking about what I wanted. Kregg missed some very important points both my designer and I told him about what we wanted at this meeting. 1) The corner posts were supposed to be IN the corner, with 6-8 inches of patio outside of them along the sides. The posts were set inside the patio two feet, so that I could not install the corner curtains I wanted. (SEE PICTURE) He threw a temper tantrum in my backyard when I objected because he did not allow himself enough time to come dig the footing holes before the inspector came. The inspector came and he had not even dug the wholes, he had to come back and he still wasn't done! Kregg basically did not want to deal with the footing hole dispute because he had not left enough time for the footing digging before the inspector came. 2) We told him the height we wanted the pergola at, which was to "start" at the bottom of the garage roof. Instead, the height starts an entire foot above that! 3) We wanted the patio to extend in the front a foot, so that we could put potted plants there and they would get sunshine. Kregg placed the pergola all the way to the edge of the front with only about 4" extending. (see the picture) These were all ideas my designer had and he did not listen to any of them! After this meeting, I tried many times to clarify with Kregg that he understood what we wanted. I was supposed to get a design, in fact what he gave me was a picture plastered on to the back of my house. (SEE PICTURE) Nowhere in this picture could you see the placement of the top beams and the spacing of them. I kept trying to get information from him via phone calls and emails. He was always on a ladder and very unavailable. At the end of this installation, Kregg claimed he had never even met my designer until the day of completion! When I reminded him of the meeting, he said, "Well you two were just talking between yourselves." Like I am going to hire a designer, pay for her services for a two hour meeting and talk with just my designer! This is a complete lie, she was there to convey to him what we wanted and they did in fact discuss what we wanted. As if this wasn't bad enough, Kregg short changed me the number of shade rafters. He only put 3 in between the pergola which is about 14 ft wide. When I asked him to add more, he said the leftover wood belongs to him. He then wanted me to sign a legal contract to come out and install them, saying I was not allowed to post my review online and that I could not ask for anything else should issues surface later. i.e. cracked wood, etc. He also falsely stated that I never wanted shade rafters in the first place. This is completely untrue, as I have southern exposure and only one tree. The entire purpose of this project was to create shade in my back yard. How much shade do you think I will get based on the picture I posted? Kregg also made a lot of promises he did not keep. He boasted that he paints the brackets black, the ones that attach the pergola to the house to make them less of an eye sore. When he had already put them up, I asked, "Are those the brackets you said you paint?" He replied that "I couldn't because I was having an inspection and the inspector needed to see the numbers on the bottom". Heck, he could have painted the sides, and sprayed the bottom after the inspection. But he didn't even bother painting them at all! Now, I have an eye sore, which will be very difficult to paint, now that they are already installed. (see the picture I posted) Cost: This project was not cheap. Yet, Kregg was here only two 6.5 hour days plus one 2 hour day to dig the footing holes. How can anyone charge this much money for so little time spent on the job?! He is not a lawyer or a doctor, for goodness sake! (But, Kregg does make legal threats.) My recommendation is to look elsewhere for a contractor who is available to discuss details of a designed project. Kregg refuses to take responsibility for missing some very important points in the design. This is a very hotheaded contractor, who only cares about his needs, not the satisfaction of his customers. Customer service is nonexistent. Do not hire this deadly duo unless you want one headache after another. See the picture of the $500 design Kregg sent me, i.e. a virtual picture plastered to the back of my house. This is what he considers a design for $500! OMG! Also, please see my other reviews. I have very good reviews for most people I have worked with. (The exception is the bathroom guy, who took my money and ran.) PLUS the patio guy this contractor brought along with him. I had many issues with "his" patio company he brought along: 1) my top outdoor step starting moving around a couple of days after they left (!) 2) brick colors were stained with dirt. This company DID stand behind their work though and came to fix everything. (Unlike this character) That company did get paid (unlike what Kregg from St Croix claims) and they got a very good rating for customer service. At the end of the project, Kregg forced me to stand in front of my pergola and make myself look happy, despite my feelings otherwise. He quickly escalated, when I asked him nicely in an email to come back and add more shade rafters. One other fishy thing is, Kregg had another person's lumber delivered to my home along with mine. Kregg told me that he did that to save money on delivery fees. I was left wondering, did he collect delivery fees from that other customer and pocket it? Enough said. Run, don't walk the other way.

We were referred to St Croix Exteriors by a landscaping company that built our paver patio. We had an initial meeting with Kregg where he went over a lot of different options with us and we were really impressed with the quality and uniqueness of his work. It took us a while to get a quote and they weren't able to get started on the project until over a month after our original schedule but many delays were beyond their control. The good thing is that Kregg stayed in contact and kept us up on the latest status. The final product turned out great and we are very happy with it. A feature I think we are going to like a lot is the polycarbonate roof, which was Kregg's idea.

I really can't say enough about how well this company performed. They really took the time to answer any questions I had about the whole process. The price was very reasonable and everything looks great! My experience in life has been somewhat difficult finding a good contractor to do great work and it has been a long time since that has happened. Finally! Everyone whole participated in the process had a lot of experience and I couldn't be happier. I would recommend St. Croix Exteriors and Remodeling to anyone. Thanks again.

This company did a great job. They were able to give me an estimate on the day after I called them. They gave us a twenty year warranty on the roof and they roofed that shed for us for free. I'm looking to have our house sided in a few years and I will use them!
