Description of Work: We bought the oil change and tire rotation. My husband told them he thought there was a problem with the front brakes and to please check them as we were going to be traveling 1700 miles in the near future. We were told everything was fine. We arrived at our destination with metal screeching as we drove the last 1300 miles. We were concerned about the safety of the vehicle while we drove and what might have been a small repair bill turned into nearly $800 for new brakes, hoses etc.

We have had a misfiring and rough running engine in our 1988 Toyota Corolla for several years. It would not idle correctly and sometimes the car would kill during acceleration or when cold. We had the car to two other mechanics and they could not find the problem but they charged us for things that may have not been needed like spark plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor, etc. When we finally went to Lake Elmo Repair they found the problem within a few hours. The number one cylinder was not firing due to a vacuum hose and fuel backup which was starving the cylinder from getting proper gas. The car runs WAY better than it has in years and they told us we will probably see a noticeable fuel savings too. Great Service!!!
Description of Work: They performed a compression check, vacuum check, cam check, cleaned the EGR valve, and repaired a faulty vacuum hose from a previous owner's self installed cruise control. They also replaced a broken heater blower motor switch with a new toggle switch.

This is an older high miles vehicle (207k) and i was very pleased with Tom's understanding of my desire to not make it "new" and dump too much money into it.
Description of Work: Changed timing belt and water pump on 2001 VW Beetle TDI. Fixed squealing noise that ended up being a bad idler wheel. During repairs the tech found some other significant and not so significant issues.

We reviewed my problem and symptom descriptions, and discussed possible causes, then the moment of truth arrived when I prepared to pay. I was told there was no charge! My peace of mind has been restored and I had access to a loaner car while Lake Elmo Repair performed the service, and it cost me nothing. Thank you for delighting this customer.
Description of Work: Lake Elmo Repair changed ownership three years ago. I was one of the previous owner's customers who was apprehensive about the change, but I chose to keep an open mind and continued obtaining service with the new owner. Because of this week's excellent experience, I am please to submit this positive report. Just prior to a 2000 mile road trip in late October I had four new tires installed by a Toyota dealership on my 2009 Camry. Throughout the trip I heard an intermittent high pitched squeak that went away upon applying the brakes. Fearing a mechanical mistake was made during the tire installation, upon returning home I made an appointment with Lake Elmo Repair to remove all four wheels and inspect the brakes. When I dropped the car off for service, I asked for and was given a loaner vehicle.

+ -1 moreI had a estimate for required maintenance on my 03 VW Jetta Turbo diesel. The serpentine belt and the water pump needed replacement at 90,000 miles. Mike, the owner of Lake Elmo Repair, suggested that I should have any other required maintenance at lest 20,000 sooner than required by the manufacture. He supplied a schedule of periodic maintenance that I could follow. This is the same schedule supplied by the Volkswagen, we just changed the mileage requirements to reflect a better realistic use of the vehicle that I have. They did a excellent job. I even have improved the mpg because of the work done. I saved $237.00 going to Lake Elmo Repair. The dealer cost was $785.00

They would not sell me the vehicle until the fuel pump and timing belt were replaced because they had done all the service on the vehicle since it was purchased new by the previous owner. They had the work done when promised and the car was ready to purchase when I arrived at the shop. It was a very pleasant experience and I hate looking for used cars.

+ -1 moreThe "Service Engine Soon" indicator light had come on on the dashboard and the car would die at idle speed. I brought the car in the morning and they asked if I needed a ride. I had already made other arrangements. They quickly diagnosed the problem. By mid-morning they gave me a call to tell me what the problem was and how much it was going to cost. The problem was solved when they removed and replaced the fuel pressure regulator. They had the car ready by late afternoon, and they honored a coupon that had expired at the end of the previous month. They were prompt, courteous, and played zero games. It was a great experience, and I'd recommend them to family and friends.

I received a call with the estimate, and the work was completed that morning. Years ago I brought in my wife's car anticipating a new radiator, they called and told me that it did not need a new radiator, made some minor repair after my authorization, saving me hundreds.
Description of Work: I have been using Lake Elmo Repair for many years for several of my vehicles. I have always found them to be trustworthy, reliable, and fairly-priced. They are very consumer-oriented.

Description of Work: I had an oil change, but what I really needed was a rear tail light and a front license plate installed. I'd gotten a much higher estimate from the dealer, almost as much as my total bill in Lake Elmo for just installing the license plate!

+ -1 moreWe were advised that they could not find a problem and that Mechanic Pat had driven the car, pulled the wheel, adjusted braking, and driven it again but could not determine the cause of the noise. Wayne told us to go ahead and drive the car, and then presented us with a bill for....zero! No charges for putting the car on the hoist or the time spent troubleshooting and test driving. He told us it was a thank you for doing business with Lake Elmo Repair. Bravo!
