Our cat was hospitalized for 2 days. They allowed us to visit as often as we liked, made sure she had her favorite toy, and both veterinarians and technicians continued to spend a great deal of time with us answering our questions and advising us on prognosis and treatment options. They even accepted phone calls in the wee hours of the morning so I could ask about my pet's progress.
When our pet was ready for discharge, they wrote down discharge instructions, worked with us to find forms of medications were were certain we could give, and a technician spent time with us making certain that we understood how to give all of the medicines necessary. After discharge, rather than having only one vet who knew her case, they developed a team of 3 veterinarians who all knew her chart and could take questions and advise us on the nursing care our pet needed.
Our cat is now one month post discharge from this hospital. The veterinarians and techs have likely saved us over $1000 because they are willing to answer so many questions, and change prescriptions as needed, through e-mail and telephone communication. The costs for inpatient care there were also lower than other practices that had seen our cat. The medical records they provided made it easy to submit costs to our veterinary health insurance company and receive reimbursement.
Brought cat # 3 to Southview to be put down. Again, a long wait even though we had an appointment. Thehe vet did a great, caring job. The tech managed to drop my dead cats head on the floor in front of us, proceeded to make clay paw prints in front of us (they press very hard) and also left her dead body in the room with us when she went to get the paw print kit.... it was almost comedic if it hadn't been so sad.
Fast forward... we adopt a new kitten through last hope and pre-paid the spay. Guess what? it was at Southview... I chalked up our last experiences to a fluke because I USED TO RAVE about the care at Southview, but our kitten was spayed yesterday (again a wait when we picked her up and they had to page a tech twice to bring her to the front), her incision came open about 2 hours after we were home. Went back today and was given a cone (which we cannot get to stay on) and antibiotics. She also seemed to have developed a severe obsession with water after going under anesthesia. When we asked about that we got, and quot;kittens will do that.and quot; no advice on how to stop this behavior, etc. The cone wont stay one and they don't want to prescribe any calming medications. Our kitten is extremely active and I suspect we will be back again with an open incision.
I am telling EVERYONE I KNOW to avoid Southview. I work at a very large organization and have already started to spread the word. I am also posting on facebook and reviewing where I can. I gave them 3 chances to be the Southview that I used to love. I'm sad that Southview has taken such a horrible turn. Dr. Foster and Stephanie at the front desk are the only two good people who work there it seems.
PLEASE AVOID THIS VET AT ALL COSTS. SO MANY VETS TO CHOOSE FROM, WHY TAKE YOUR FAMILY MEMBER TO A PLACE WHERE MONEY SEEMS TO BE THE BOTTOM LINE :( so sad. I hope Dr. Foster takes control of his business and brings southview back to the extraordinary animal hospital that it used to be.
