I have been shopping at Gerten's for many years now and have always made the longer trip from Lakeville to get their high quality plants and to enjoy their beautiful grounds. But something happened last Sunday that made me think I will never go anywhere else but here. We were looking for a certain size of hanging plants and not finding many out we were met by a Gerten's worker who asked if we needed help. We asked him about the lack of inventory for the large hanging baskets and he took his time to explain and gave us a very informative answer. He didn't stop there. He told us that he would take us back to the garden holding area to see if we could find more of what we were looking for. He got a golf cart and proceeded to take us around to the back. On our way, we found out that our "worker" was the owner of Gertens. We were escorted around to find our baskets and he personally picked them out for us, got them down and carted them to the front and loaded them into our truck!! He even gave us a discount for buying 10. To think that there are owners out that still care about their customers in this way leaves such a good old fashioned feeling in me. This place is the real deal for sure. You will NOT be disappointed!!

They have good customer service, this is why they have been around so long.

I was buying perennials late in the season, and they did offer a 1-year warranty, which seems to be standard for nurseries. The plants were in great condition; Gertens has the best variety of plants and excellent labeling from my experience. The worker was very helpful in answering my questions. Gertens did not have a special plant that I was looking for; he spent some time looking it up. I felt he went a step farther and said that they normally don't stock it, but I could order it next spring. Items were not on sale, at a time of year when most nurseries are discounting heavily. He explained that Gertens also sells (as a wholesaler) to other retail stores; therefore, Gertens does not want to undercut them by having an end of the season sale. I felt this was a reasonable explanation; also it shows that Gertens has respect for the retailer they supply.

I can't begin to think of how much I use this business. They have a wonderful selection of plants that I use in my yard every year. They have some very unique plants that you can't purchase anywhere else. They're just very good. Every time I shop there it's an excellent experience.

They have the best selection of landscaping needs that I have seen in the Twin Cities. The prices seem competitive - not quite as cheap as a home improvement store, but slightly better than another plant store, and the quality is excellent. Their hanging baskets are gorgeous - I will definitely be returning every year to buy those, plus whatever else I need for shrubs, perennials and annuals.

They are extremely knowledgeable in terms of answering your questions about lawn and garden of any sort. They have a very broad array of products. They have plants and trees, but also lawn and garden care, tools and chemicals as well as other products. They are particularly strong in product knowledge and variety. They have always been consistent. They stand behind their products.

We'd been looking for the whole summer at replacement grills, and finally settled on Weber. Gertens has a pretty representative selection of the models, so we'd always seem to end up back there looking. Realizing prices were pretty much the same from dealer to dealer (from what we saw) we purchased at Gertens; mostly because they had the unit in stock, and their price for a full tank of gas was reasonable. The downside was that they had nobody that knew anything about the differences between the models, had any experience with any of them, or could do much more than look up a sku on their register. Good thing we'd done our homework, so pretty much no sales assistance was needed.

The nursery is huge, so there is a wide selection. However, we had a very difficult time finding anyone to help us. First, in the shrub department, the card for the particular shrub we were interested in was missing so we did not know the price or other specifics about the plant. When we did track someone down by walking to another department, she was apologetic and helpful. When we moved on to buy grass seed, the gentlemen was not very helpful. I told him I knew nothing about grass seed (and therefore wouldn't know what questions to ask) but he would only answer very specific questions. When I returned home and searched the Bachman's website, I found that I should have bought a different type of seed mix, as well as ground cover and fertilizer (which I did ask about). I was over-charged $30 on the mulch but received a refund. One of the sales associates was apologetic but the other, older woman, interrogated me before believing me. I hope the plants turn out well.

The staff at Gertens is always helpful and when I explained I needed a nice evergreen that could tolerate a northern exposure in Minnesota, they gave me a few options and helped me select the right one. They were having a sale too which knocked off 25% of all three bushes. I always find something at Gertens. It is such a huge nursery.

The designer was prompt, asked our opinions, and made very insightful and creative recommendations. We could not be happier with the work.

GREAT SELECTION. GERTENS IS A HUGE BUSINESS AND HAS A GREAT VARIETY OF PRODUCTS. THE STAFF ARE HELPFUL AND WILLING TO ANSWER QUESTIONS.

KAREN WAS DELIGHTFUL. GERTEN'S DOES NOT HAVE AN IN-HOUSE LANDSCAPE INSTALLATION SERVICE, BUT HAS DESIGNERS WHO WILL PROVIDE DESIGN ASSISTANCE IF YOU WANT TO DO THE WORK YOURSELF. MY HUSBAND ENJOYS YARD WORK, SO WE FELT THIS WAS THE WAY TO GO. KAREN HELPED US THINK THROUGH OUR APPROACH AND WHAT TYPES OF PLANTS/TREES/SHRUBS WOULD WORK BEST IN OUR YARD, AS WELL AS TIMING OF THE WHOLE PLAN. WE DEFINITELY WOULD WORK WITH HER AGAIN!

SINCE I KNEW WHAT TYPES AND QUANTITY OF PERENNIALS I NEEDED, I CALLED GERTEN'S TO SEE IF THEY WOULD PULL MY ORDER AND HAVE IT READY TO RING WHEN I PICKED IT UP (SINCE WE LIVE ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE CITY). THEY HAD EVERYTHING PULLED, AND THE QUALITY OF THE PLANTS WAS FANTASTIC. EVERYONE WITH WHOM I TALKED THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS WAS FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL, AND OUR PERENNIAL BED IN OUR BACKYARD IS BEAUTIFUL! GERTEN'S PRICES WERE ALSO MORE REASONABLE THAN SOME OF THE OTHER LARGER NURSERIES.

I HAVE CALLED THEM MANY TIMES TO ASK MANY QUESTIONS, AND THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VERY POLITE AND HELPFUL TO ME.
