Let me be clear, the decision to have an estate sale and preparing yourself to liquidate years of collecting your prized possessions is not an easy one. After you have crossed the threshold of reality that your prized possessions and family heirlooms are worthless to your children, nieces and nephews, then it’s time to have an estate sale. They are good at what they do, have an impeccable reputation and are established enough to be choosy in who they invest their time in setting up their sales. They will explain this upfront, so if they won’t agree to do your sale don’t be offended if they believe that you are not a good fit for them. There are plenty of other companies out there who might be a better fit for you. Once they have agreed to do your sale, they may require you to pay for extra labor to set up your multitude of objects. The setting up process is time and labor intensive and they have a friendly, hardworking team that will get it done right. Do yourself a big favor, before you call anyone to do your estate sale, educate yourself on the real value of all of your unwanted stuff. The man of the team came out first to determine whether or not we had enough goods (over $10,000 worth) to put at auction, where to hold it, and whether or not the items were such that they wanted to handle them (good quality, well taken care of, clean, etc).
He indicated that they would take everything. But on the day that he and his partner showed up, she said they don't take furniture (there wasn't much left; most had already been moved to our new house or sold by us). This small glitch quickly resolved between the two of them and they took the furniture. From that point on, it was smooth sailing. They cleared everything out and even swept out the garage. They took everything they couldn't sell to Goodwill for us. The check arrived promptly. We were delighted.
