Thought it went well until we turned on the cables and blew our circuits, over and over. Ends up the Ice Dam Company provided us the wrong electrical specs. We were given one estimate for hard wired cables then it was changed to plug in variety. We were told it would draw 6amps per 150 ft of cable when it fact it draws 6-9.6 amps per ft. Now we have to pay to the electrician again to come over and fix it. When I called the Ice Dam Company to tell them what happened, that they provided the wrong electrical info, they basically told me that was my problem and they are not responsible for the electrical. Even though they are the ones who wrote the wrong specs. Super disappointed. Their website claims they stand by their work but they clearly do not. I paid 4200 to the Ice Dam company and 2100 for an electrian. And now I have to pay more to have the electrician come back, thanks to the Ice Dam company and their incorrect info.

I had been watching the ice buildup in our gutters nervously, and sure enough, with the first real warm up last week wet spots appeared in our ceiling, just where we had an issue with ice dam damage once before. With above freezing temps predicted for the next few days, I knew I needed to get the snow off the roof as soon as possible. Other customer reviews gave the Ice Dam Company high marks for responsiveness, as well as good work, so I tried calling them first. I did wind up having to leave a message with an answering service, but Steve the owner, got back to me promptly, and we were able to set up a time for late the next afternoon, when I got home from work, and before the damage could get too bad.

I was VERY impressed with the two man crew that came out to steam the ice dams out of the gutters, and shovel the heavy, wet snow off my roof. They worked so hard, and so fast, that they pretty much finished the job in an hour and a half, which, when you're paying $425 an hour, was a real relief, I was afraid I'd be spending closer to a $1000.

I started hovering anxiously as the hour and a half mark neared, because though they had finished clearing the roof, they had shoveled a huge mountain of snow on to the front entry area, and it was obvious it would take quite a bit of time and effort to move it all. I kept telling them to just leave the snow there, I didn't use that entrance, and it would probably melt soon anyway. Or I could shovel it myself, now that it was on the ground. The lead man finally smiled and told me not to worry, they would only charge me for an hour and a half, but he wanted to clear the entry and walkway for me because they want to do the best possible job and make sure their customers are happy. Then the both of them worked like mad, for a fair bit after the hour and a half mark to clear the whole area right down to the pavement. Oh, and they told me they'd been working since 6 a.m. that day!

The crew could not have been nicer, more professional or hard-working, and the amount of damage prevented to my house by more water pouring in was well worth the money I spent. I did not see a single scrap of loose shingle either, they were very careful to prevent any roof damage, as far as I could see, which was also a reason I chose a company that uses steam to remove the ice buildup. I'd recommend these guys to anyone, they definitely give good value for the money .

I have nothing but positive to say about working with the Ice Dam Co. I had to reschedule our appointment and the office staff were very accommodating. Carlos did an exceptional job- very efficient. This is not easy work up on frozen roofs in below freezing temps. Hats off to Carlos and team !

What a great company to deal with. I spoke with Steve (the owner) the night before and explained that we had water slowly leaking into our kitchen due to ice dams. He seemed very intelligent and definitely knows his field. He was very patient answering all of my questions. He promised to have a 2-person crew with a steamer out the next day.
Dustin and his helper arrived the next day. Very professional and easy to deal with. Couldn't have asked for a better crew. They worked for three hours steaming and shoveling the roof. VERY hard workers. We had significant ice dams along the edge of most of the roof so it was a decent size job.
I would strongly recommend this company....seemed perfect in every way.

I called several other companies and was not able to find someone to come out as soon as I wanted. While driving home from dropping my daughter off at school I saw a house that looked awesome (i.e. no ice/snow on its roof). There was a sign in the yard for the Ice Dam Company, so I pulled off the road and called them right away. They answered the phone and were able to get me in that afternoon or the next day. I chose to have them come the following afternoon. They were scheduled to come out between 2 and 4 the next day.
They called right around 4 and said they were on their way. Two guys arrived. We showed them the ice build-up we wanted them to focus on first and asked them to limit the time to two hours for budgetary reasons. We have a 1 1/2 story home. Carlos immediately got to work. He was such a hard worker…running at times! We really appreciated his hard work! He was kind and knew what he was doing. The other employee seemed to be standing around a little and was taking multiple smoke breaks. They removed the ice from the two areas that we were most concerned about. They did not finish getting ice out of all the gutters within the two hour window. Not for lack of trying on Carlos' part! We were out the following day with an ice pick trying to get more of the ice out. I loved the responsiveness of this company. I loved the punctuality and professionalism of this company. I loved, loved, loved the quality workmanship of Carlos. I felt like they should have been able to get all the ice out of the gutters in two hours. But, it wasn't for lack of trying…at least on Carlos' part.
I would hire them again…but I will be doing everything in my power to keep from having to at that hourly rate. :)

They came out and skimmed the roof just to remove the ice.  I gave them all “A”.  The price was high but I don’t know I guess I don’t know what other company has charged to skim the roof.  They came out the same day that we called and Carlos is the person who did the work, he and another person.  He had an issue when our breaker tripped that the steamer shut down and he couldn’t get going again.  He was really spared with.  He was actually generous with the time he recorded to charge up and he left, went back to the shop and got a new steamer and came back out and finished the same day so we could save more time of work.  He took pictures and send the picture to us so we could see what he had done and what it looks like.  They also followed up if they need to know what’s in my payments that I wanted to talk with them about he did.  I think that they were extremely fair and honest and again I think communication for them was also excellent – communicating issues and recommendations.  They shovel the snow off to but the main thing was to get the ice out in the roof.  They skimmed up the ice and shoveled the snow.

I never want another ice dam, but this company was wonderful to work with, and I'd work with them again anytime.
First I was going to shop around for the best price. They were the first company I called, and the girl answering the phone was so pleasant and knowledgable, I just hired them on the spot. She scheduled my service for the next morning.
Two guys arrived at 8:00 for an 8-10 window. One explained what they were going to do before I said and quot;Okay, let's do it.and quot; He gave me updates along the way as to what he was doing, and what caused the problem. He noticed more ice that could turn into a problem and steamed all of it away.
They were here for 2 hours. At $325/hour it cost me $650.

Steve Kuhl, the owner, answered my call in the evening and was very professional and helpful. We had a real problem with water leaking into our house because of an ice dam. We needed someone to get onto our very steep roof to remove the ice dam and soon! Steve assured me that he'd have 2 men out the next morning.
The men arrived on time as scheduled, were very knowledgable, professional and courteous. They knew I had an appointment in 3 hours that I had to attend. They said they saw no reason why they couldn't/wouldn't have the job done for me in the allotted time. They got to work immediately removing the snow and then steaming off the ice dam. At which point they could see where our roof was causing the water to get into the house. The roofing company we had install our roof failed us by not flashing an area that allowed water from ice dams to pour into our house.
After the men removed the snow one man stayed on the roof to deal with the ice dam; his partner shoveled around the house where the snow from the roof landed. He shoveled snow off our deck that wasn't even from the roof! They did a GREAT job and we were very pleased with their work. I'd hire this company again and and highly recommend them.

Very pleased overall. Had small leak in kitchen window but was leery of ice chopping or pressure-washer removal as my husband had casually mentioned. Found Ice Dam Company's blog about the disadvantages of those methods and why they only used steam. Rest of website was very informative and even humorous; only people who love their jobs would put something together like that.
Called on Thursday mid-morning and got appointment for Friday with a 12-2 window for arrival. Steve (owner) was super nice and kind on the phone; the scheduler was very professional and told me everything I needed to know up front. The workers arrived exactly at 2p on Friday and friendly-like mentioned he wasn't sure if he was early or late - didn't know what time they quoted. He asked to be shown what needed to be done, then said he hadn't had lunch and was going to go get some. They didn't return until 2:45p - so a little later than their quoted time, although at no time did I mention at all that time was an issue. Just an FYI for folks who might be taking time off work (I wasn't). They bill by the exact time and he did record it honestly at 2:45p without me having to say anything.
There were 2 workers (only 1 I interacted with) and one steam machine. He was very professionally casual - I don't know how to describe except that I felt very comfortable with talking to him, asking questions, and presenting problems if I had one (but I didn't). He was pretty entertaining and charming in a market-vendor kind of way - during the job, asking how much snow I wanted shoveled off and assuring me they'd do the best job for me. I sensed that he really knew what he was doing but wasn't a show-off about it. I felt they did a great balance between what was needed and what would have been perhaps unnecessary money spent.
So, when they arrived, the first worker came in and started taking his shoes off - I told him not to bother and walked on the hardwood back to my basement. He immediately followed my lead and avoided the oriental rug - totally unlike the last company we had in. I appreciated that. I also caught the 2nd worker around back trying desperately to shed the snow from his shoes, which was nearly impossible given that we hadn't shoveled back there and it was slushy. I told him to just come in, don't bother, and even then he was hesitant. I appreciated the respect they had for my house.
They worked about 4 hours. I think it was a little longer than usual, but our fault because we hadn't cleaned a heavy fall of pine needles out of our gutters - they said that helped to create the ice dam. They seemed to work steadily and conscientiously and when I saw the first worker cleaning the muck out by hand - that's when I decided to give them a tip. It was gross. They tried to refuse the tip, saying no one did it and their boss pays them hourly (implied well/fairly). My husband insisted.
The bill arrived fairly and exactly as quoted, and exactly the hours they worked (they give you a draft before they leave). I don't know if the rate was competitive as I didn't really shop around, but I wasn't looking for cheap, I was looking for right.
They do say you can leave once the workers get started - however, they needed to plug into electricity and water in our house which left the doors open - in our neighborhood we get and quot;opportunityand quot; break-ins, so I didn't want to leave with things clearly open. If you had outside outlets that wouldn't be an issue.
My husband inspected the house/yard afterward - he found just one piece of shingle about the size of a dollar. I don't think that was bad at all. There are some real horror stories out there (on Angie's List) about finding tons of shingles with some of the other non-steam methods. Also, since I was home the whole time, I heard a just a tiny little bit of chopping, which I think was just chopping up the ice hunks that were already steam-removed from the house. Other than just a few minutes, I didn't hear any other damage-type noises. Also, the owner seems to own some other well-known remodel-type businesses, and they all seem reputable. I would definitely use again.

"Hi [member name removed]. I just stumbled across your review. Wow. I wish most people took the time to articulate their experience like you did. We really care about doing the best we can from top to bottom. I'm sure no one in my company has seen your review so I am going to print it and give it to everyone involved with a generous Starbucks coffee card! What a great way to start my Sunday. Please let me know if you need help in the future. You might be interested in my sister company www.kuhlscontracting.com. It deals with the underlying causes of ice dams all the time. It went great. The office called to tell me when they would be here, and they showed up right on time. They were respectful and professional. We talked about what they would do and what the priorities were. They removed all the snow off the roof, and also shoveled my front steps when they were done. The steaming went fine -- they got a lot done. Now there is nothing up there to melt and damage my house further. There wasn't quite enough time to remove all of the ice, so they steamed channels through the part they couldn't get to so that water can make it to the gutter. I called them partly because I saw them do a great job for a neighbor about a week ago. I hope I don't need to have this done again (I'm taking bids on sealing and insulating the attic), but if I do, I will just call this company first.
