There was 4 week lead time for the custom door and 4-6 week lead time for the custom storm door. I think ultimately in the end it was about 6 weeks before they came to install (the door has to go to the paint / stain guys after it arrived so it could get finished).
The installer showed up exactly when expected (actually 15 minutes early) and spent the entire day (8 hours). I've installed interior doors myself and they are tricky -- external doors even more so. The installer did a great job expect the door is a bit tight to close. It has to do with the weather stripping being so new, however I'm not worried -- that will loosen with age.
Everything was cleaned up and hauled away. I joked with the installer about the saw dust in the grass from the installation of the trim... like anyone is going to vacuum that up.
The sales agent promised things the company could not do.(1 window and the original windows that were over 100 years old I was promised would be much less breezy once reconditioned) I was left explaining to the window measurer then to the contractors then to Greg Murtha what each promised along the way that eventually went back to the sales agent promises. The contractors themselves were very easy to work with and were in the same boat I was in ( sale agent promising and not communicating to next in line ie: caulking around windows, 1 window in discussion on 3rd floor). The contractors were friendly and clean very easy to work with. They did leave me concerned when I had to go around after they reconditioned windows and let them know which ones were still breezy. I felt as professionals they should have pointed that out along with a plan to correct. Most windows in the house were replaced in the 90's except the living, dining and upstairs hallway. They eventually had to get thicker weather stripping and spent more time on the job then estimated. I would get random calls from the billing department and Greg regarding payment I would respond saying I thought you were going to talk to the contractors they took pictures and would re explain my concern of the damaged windows and the 1 that was not being fixed. I had to re meet with the window measure again only to find out the window that "technically was not in the contract" could not be fixed (but was promised it could be) After numerous calls and frustration later it came down to the window in question was not "officially" written in the contract therefore they would not reimburse me for anything (even thought eh sales, window measure each said no problem just explain it to the contractors when they get here) The 3 dining room windows had the wood damaged (very upset since I was very specific with my concerns) The reasoning being (from contractors )the galvanized steel was hard to remove - although there were other windows that had it on and not damaged. In the end after numerous emails and phone calls I am being reimbursed for the 3 dining room windows that can not be fixed and not being reimbursed for the 1 that was "not officially" appearing in the contract. Lesson learned and something to pass forward - no matter how convincing the sales person, window measure or the "words" the company shares...GET IT ALL IN WRITTING ON THE CONTRACT and learn from my mistake. I was very fair and nice and stated simple facts when discussing with Greg Murtha. I understand the loss the company may have took on the house however I was not given what was promised. The sales person no longer works there so maybe that added to the frustration and confusion as well. I do understand from the company side since it is not written in the contract they will not reimburse, they did not see it from the customer side of the promise of the sales person (and other personal) which lead to confusion. I will be looking to replace storms and was excited to work with this company and will now rethink this company when replacing storms. No matter how they respond to my comments they can not argue the point I was fair, flexible and understanding (to a point) with the mistakes of the company.
"{removed member name}, thank you for your thoughtful comments. We worked with you and the unforeseen challenges your project presented throughout the installation. Considering the difficulties we got it right and your windows are completed as ordered. As far as the window in question, this window was not in the order documents or referenced anywhere in the order paperwork. We would of been pleased to complete this window, however, as you know the design and function of the window made it unworkable. We hope our "goodwill" discount credit to your order compensated you for your time. Respectfully, Greg Murtha"
Their measuring and installation staff were punctual, and did a very good job.
So far, everything is working very well.
Mon-Ray came and measured based off our scope of work that was generated. They called a few days before they came to install (after our other window work was finished) and did a great job.
We really like there flush mounted storm windows over non-flush mounted. Of course, the flush mounted are more expensive option but worth it. The storm windows are a quality product especially over the cheap stuff you can get at home improvement stores. Everything fits well - especially considering we have 1923 house and none of our window opening are standard or quite true.
"Thank you for your comments. Once we were notified of the damage of the wood work we replaced the damaged material and confirmed satisfaction from homeowner for the products and services. Thank you."
