H2 DEVELOPMENT INC
About us
Ed Hatterschide and Phil Hartz are H2 Development, general contractors with over twenty years in the home remodeling business. Ed and Kristi lead busy lives, very centered around their three great kids, Alberta, attending the University of Minnesota, and Robin and Bennett, still at home. Phil and Barb's lives have taken on a new dimension. Barb refers to herself as a "casualty" of the Northwest/Delta merger, commuting to and from Atlanta to Sweet Home Minnesota. Both are dedicated to family life, enjoying activities that include music, sports, camping and fishing. They compliment each other nicely. When family demands intervene, they cover for each other, overseeing that a project continues on time, on course. They are respectful that their "job site" is someone's "home," and attempt to keep the family's upheaval to a minimum while working in their home. They are receptive to family glitches, children and/or pets in the mix.

It was evident that Phil really took pride in his work and with the final results. I think he was almost as excited and pleased as we were with the final results. I highly recommend them.
We are not yet finished but are ahead of estimated schedule. They began the work as scheduled. They are kind, considerate and patient with us. The boys and the dog have new best friends. They went out of their way to make sure the house was not unnecessarily invaded and always clean up at the end of the day. The quality of workmanship is exceptional. Even the smallest details are attended to. We are now in the process of waiting for the counter tops to be finished as per plan.
"Member, I regret that you are dissatisfied with our communications over this project. Per our phone conversation, I did admit that we were behind with these coupon offers and were taking longer than we wanted getting back to you. Then, I did call and email you a few times to set up a meeting to discuss the plans, but received no response. I assumed that you were no longer interested, so I contacted Angies List on 8/29/12 to refund your $49. If you haven't received it, I will make sure you do. Please confirm your mailing address. All our customers are important to us. We do take your unhappiness seriously and want to make this right. Thanks Ed Hatterschide, H2 Development Inc. 612 290 8151 [email protected]"
They were wonderfully respectful and accommodating to my pets (large dog and a few cats) during the project.
Also did a very good job of cleaning up after themselves every day before leaving my house.
Ed did a great job following up with me as appropriate during the project asking for feedback and whether I had any concerns with quality, clean up, and etc. He also was very respectful and responsive to all my questions and any little nits and nats of concerns I raised along the way.
One time there was a very MINOR electrical issue that a certain outlet was not working where I had my bed temporarily relocated to, I called him that evening simply to report it to be addressed, and he offered to do whatever it would take to make sure I was OK that evening, even if it meant coming over that evening with extension cords to get me by! It was not a big deal to me and I was able to handle it just fine until they were able to get there, which turned out to be first thing the next morning to correct. His willingness to go above and beyond however should be duly noted.
There was some scope creep during the project as a result of issues noted along the way [not surprising with my house], like with my electrical service, insulation, and some exterior issues with the brick siding, and etc.. What I really appreciated as these and quot;issuesand quot; arised, was how Ed would explain the situation with no pressure for me to spend extra money, he simply explained the facts and offered alternate solutions, cheapest to most expensive, as well as and quot;do nothingand quot;, and left it to me with no pressure. In some cases after taking these to my independent designer, I chose a few of the more costly solutions for the sake of the long run resale value of my house and etc. I really like that I was given more than one option to consider rather than being manipulated into the most expensive option as if it were the only solution!
Also, I really appreciated, that although I used someone else for the carpet purchase and install, Ed chose to work around that schedule to have final paint coat and stain and related touch up be done after the carpet install, when he was under no obligation to do so. He could have just done all the work per contract to the letter, and then leave and whatever happens with the remainder of my project (nicks and scratches from carpet install or whatever) oh well,so be it. But he wanted to make sure it would be in good shape for my final product, indicative of his desire to make sure I was satisfied overall regardless. He also threw in a couple small and quot;freebiesand quot; along the way that technically were not in the contract just to make sure things would look great when all was said and done.
I think he does great work with integrity.
Nice enough, and professional behaviors, just was a waste of time and $50.
