Excellent! A well-known national chimney service tried to frighten me into doing very expensive repairs and Mr. Collar from London Aire explained exactly what I needed and didn't need and then did the work on time, in budget and with excellence.

Jim returned my call the same day and spent 15 minutes on the phone talking to me about my chimney problem. Because my schedule was flexible, he was able to call the next day to fit me in, after he finished up his other scheduled jobs. I hired him to inspect our chimney, because there was a small amount of water coming into one of the fireboxes when it rained heavily. He diagnosed the problem and showed me a detailed video of the top of my chimney, so that I understood exactly what was going on up there. He then gave me options for a solution and ways to preserve the chimney from future problems. He answered all of my questions and made sure I knew the fees of any services before performing them. In addition to the inspection, I had him install a stainless steel chimney cap. If you want quality and knowledge, I recommend London Aire Chimney Services.

This experience was excellent.
He called me back within a few hours of my message and offered to come over that same day because he was in the area. I told him that we were certain we would need a camera inspection of the chimney - but he told me that rather than go ahead with that right away, he could swing by and take a look. He said those cost a lot more and often he can tell if the chimney is in good enough shape/or poor enough shape just by the visual inspection first. He said if it turned out that he'd need to do the video after all, he wouldn't charge us for the visit to come back. This honesty was refreshing from other companies we've experienced - and it saved us hundreds of dollars. 
We went ahead with the visual inspection and after 20 minutes on our roof he came down and showed me a video of what he found on his iPad. I was very impressed with his knowledge/professionalism and the use of technology to show me what was going on with my chimney. I approved the work to remove the plug and he inspected the chimney and took video of the inside. When my husband got home, he showed him the video too - and then showed us pictures in a photo album of different situations and scenarios. He spent 2 hours with us but we only paid for the original visit charge (plus the service cost). Most places charge again if they are there longer than the first hour.
He told us what work needed to be done by a masonry company and offered to help us find a place that could do our small job. He was very helpful in giving us tips of what to look for when working with wood stove companies so we don't get scammed or have the cheap version installed, thus making our chimney less safe. We appreciated all of the education and help and advice we received. After what he found, there wasn't immediate work to have him do, so I was surprised that he still invested so much energy talking with us about the process. Down the road when we have chimney sweep work to be done or other issues, Jim is the only person I would call.

He  came out a few days early and measured about three times to make sure he got it right, on the day of installation he drilled a hole as another check.  The door was cut and the chimney repaired and lined. The door was then installed. Everything was cleaned up when they were done.

I have used London Aire (Jim Collar) for the past several years to clean my dryer vent duct work.  He returns phone messages quickly, and always arrives on time.  He works quickly once he arrives.  He tells me when my dryer will need cleaning again, based on the amount of lint he finds in the vent when he cleans it.  His prices seem quite fair to me--they are based on the location and type of duct work in a particular house, and he shows me a chart that indicates how the pricing works. He's courteous and professional, and I recommend him highly.

Jim is very detail oriented, efficient and clean.  He even goes up on the roof to clean everything from top to bottom.  This was the second time my wife and I have used him.  He was recommended by my father-in-law who has used Jim for a number of years.

I was happy with them. They seemed to be efficient and know what they were doing. They seemed to do a very thorough job. They were prompt.

It had been a few years and we burned peat last season so the build up was considerable. He arrived on time, thoroughly explained the pricing and completed the work in an efficient manner. Clean up was very thorough. Highly recommend using London Aire.

Jim inspected our chimney three years ago when we bought the house. We requested he clean the chimney for our living room fireplace, but after inspecting he said it didn't need it. He also inspected an old wood burning stove in our family room that was in disrepair. He confirmed our suspicions that we shouldn't use it. He was very detailed, thorough, and took the time to explain how to use the living room fire place properly because we had never used one. Jim came back this week (Oct 2007) to perform the three services I listed earlier. Once again, he was very thorough, advised on the work before he performed it, gave us options when possible. I was particularly concerned about having a good screen in the chimney cap, as we had had a bat in the house. We think he got in via the chimney. Jim ordered a stainless steel mesh screen and explained exactly how it works and that stainless steel should never have to be replaced. Also, the work area was left very clean.

A good investment. Helpful to have someone other than a contractor describe the problems, and was educational in general in understanding how a chimney works.

We asked London Aire to give us a second opinion on the condition of our chimney after receiving a report suggesting thousands of dollars of repairs. Jim was thorough, knowledgeable and very helpful to suggest next steps. The remote video was particularly helpful as it gave us a visual idea of what repairs are truly needed. We particularly felt reassured because London Aire does not do chimney repair, so they gave us a non-biased report. This was not the case with the previous chimney sweep we hired.

RECENT CHARGES WERE $49 FOR THE SERVICE CALL, PLUS $238 TO CLEAN AND FLUSH OUT GUTTERS AND DOWN SPOUTS CLOGGED WITH LEAVES AND ROOFING GRANULES ON MY 2-STORY HOME, PLUS $100 TO REPLACE THE ENDS OF MY DOWNSPOUTS WITH NIFTY TELESCOPING, SWIVELING, FLIP UP EXTENSIONS, WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I''VE RECOMMENDED THIS COMPANY TO OTHERS AND WILL DEFINITELY USE AGAIN.
