Rick from Neighborhood Plumbing came to the house, did a thorough review of the current system, as well as my additional requirements for improvements to the system and promptly delivered a quote. (Not on the spot, but within 24 hours).
Their quote also contained some optional features that were quoted separately. They also provided me with the option to select the brand of the furnace and air conditioner along with pros/cons of the options.
Neighborhood's quote was not the lowest, but it provided me with the most flexibility for my situation. I made my final decision about the options I wanted, contacted Rick with the final configuration and a target price. He went to work for me and wrote up a final quote. We met at the local coffee shop where I signed the quote and it was done.
We scheduled the installation for about 10 - 14 days later to match my schedule and to allow delivery time for some of the specialty items I had requested. We knew it would be a two day project.
On day 1, Rich and Brandon arrived on site to remove the old furnace and AC units and install the new furnace and AC units. They also reworked the ducting.
On day 2, Greg and Brandon arrived to replace the dampers, install all the controllers for the new zone system as well as the thermostats and the humidifier. They ended up finding a bad circuit board on the zone controller and needed order a new one and come back later to finish the job. (this did not affect the operation of the system)
Rick came back a few days later with the replacement card, finished everything up. He did a final test of the freon levels in the Air Conditioner and completed the necessary paperwork for warranties and rebates for me.
Every interaction with all 3 of these men was very professional. They cleaned up everything each day. They made sure I was happy with the day's progress prior to leaving and communicated very well throughout the project.
I would highly recommend Neighborhood Plumbing and Heating to anyone looking for a fantastic company to work with.
P.S. My first experience with Neighborhood Plumbing was in February when I was house sitting for a neighbor and their furnace went out. I contact Neighborhood Plumbing, Brandon arrived within an hour and fixed it up.
Horrible! Immediately the owner assumed I was hiring him for the job when all I wanted was a quote.....they advertise free estimates. I told him I was going to get another quote and he told me he was going to bill me his time. That should have been a HUGE red flag. I ended up hiring the company for the job and I regret every it!! I am still dealing with the brand new system losing pressure. Since the system was put in, I have to have the company come out and pressurize the system. My system is a little over 3 years old and the valves on the radiator leaks. The company refuses to fix the problem. I later found out, they didn't pull a permit with county inspector to conduct the work. When I told the owner that I knew he didn't pull a permit, he pulled one the next week. 3 years AFTER the job was completed.
I had wanted to replace my traditional water heater with a tankless water heater, so we discussed and agreed on installing one. He quoted me a price and a start time, but failed to mention the brand.
The day came to install it. I was at work and my wife, who works nights, was at home sleeping. They were supposed to start at 8am ( I had been without hot water for 3 days at this point). I came home on my break at 10am to see that the company was not at my home and I had not received any calls !!
I was furious. I called a competitor and they were sending a guy over to give me a new estimate, I was done with Neighborhood. I called them to let them know not to bother coming over... one of the owners came on the phone and apologized and said my unit was on its way up from the Twin Cities. He told me it was a different model and a higher capacity model, ( I question why they were already doing this and had not informed me-- as I had previously chosen a lower capacity model for cost savings). In the end, he made a concession on the price -- by about $400, and promised me to have hot water that day.
The tech, Mike, came out by noon and started. I was home at 6pm and spoke with him as he was still installing the unit. He had a couple issues he had to call on for advice/direction as he told me he hasn't installed many units of this brand before... (really!!). He was a super nice guy, and stayed there until he finished... 10pm !! Good thing I stay up late. While I was talking to him, he had to endure a phone call from his wife, whom I could here yelling at him for having to work late ( I could hear her plain as day). He handled the situation calmly and professionally.
The work was completed that day, and everything has run fine since.
The final straw was a year later... the install came with one free annual checkup. The reminder card was a flimsy, nondescript postcard that almost was thrown away as it looked like junk mail... it didn't have their logo on it and seemed as if they WANT you to miss the free checkup --- it had an expiration date on it of 10 days to 2 weeks ( can't remember exactly ).
They did show up for that once I called and made the appointment.... the salesman was sure to be there and they gave me a furnace inspection, only to miraculously find a possible crack in my heat exchanger. That was April, I am now obtaining estimates from several OTHER companies, but will not go back to Neighborhood.
On a side note, I believe that many contractors add in the rebates you get back from power companies into their bid, to make it that they receive YOUR rebate and you break even. Just my thought.
