Energy audit was conducted by owner. He explained the energy audit process (required for rebate) and results wel,l and answered all of my questions.
Other staff was friendly, courteous, and open to answer all questions involving the attic sealing and insulation. All work took less than 3 hours and the work areas were cleaned/vacuumed when finished.
They were on time, left everything very clean, and were extremely professional.
All around a great experience. I strongly recommend.
This is the second time I have used select insulation systems.
A date to do the job was agreed upon between my Roofing contractor (an Angie's List award winner), Select Insulation System and me.
The Roofing contractor job was to remove and replace the roof of the whole house. They arrived first, before Select Insulation System to remove the porch roof. A two man crew from the Insulation company arrived to remove the existing fiberglass insulation and spray the foam from the top of the roof. Rob, the owner, never showed up. As they were spraying the foam ,the Crew Chief of the Roofing contractor advised me that they were not spraying enough foam. I did not say anything to the Insulation guys, because I assumed that they knew their job and Rob, had given me a verbal guarantee. In addition I got a complaint from my Roofing Contractor that the Select Insulations System were putting the old Fiberglass insulation in the Roofing contractor's Dumpester.
When the Insulators finished spraying, the roofing contractors reroofed the porch.
Last winter (2010) we had a lot of snow. After the first snow, I begin to see sign of "Ice Jams". I made several calls to Rob at Select Insulation System and left (3)messages. None of the call were returned. I called again early 2011 and he answered the phone. After several addition attempts to get him to come and see the problem. He came with the Installer and saw the "Ice Jams". He has not been back. I called and spoke with him again and he promised to get back with me. I call and left messages and no attempt to resolve my problem. I paid him $1,200 for the Spray Insulation and $600 to my roofing Contractor to remove and replace my roof. My roofing probem is no better now that it was before the spray foam.
This is a follow up to my complaint regarding Select Insulation. Rob Gass, the Owner of Select Insulation came to my home with his Crew Chief, Joe on several occasions to help identify the heat source that was causing the Ice Dams on my roof. In addition I had the roofing Contractor on site with Rob and myself to determine a plan of action to correct the problem. Rob suggested that I have an Energy Audit preformed of the affected area to determine where there was heat loss and he would pay for the cost. It was agreed between the three parties; Select Insulation, the Roofing Contractor and me that once the Energy Audit was complete the Roofing Contractor would give Select Insulation access (cut holes in the roof and etc.) to the areas that needed additional insulation.
For an additional charge, the Roofing contractor added more ventilation to the roof and provided access for Select Insulation. Joe arrived with his assistance and spent most of the day addressing my problem for no additional charge.
During the Energy Audit there were several other areas in my home that needed to be better insulated. Because Rob and Joe?s effort to resolve my original problem I contracted them to insulate my rim Joists in my basement for an additional charge. I found Joe and his assistant Grant very pleasant and helpful.
I have no evidence of Ice Dams at this point and I am satisfied.
"I was at the property to provide an estimate on August 24, 2010. I did not guarantee but rather suggested that spray foam is the best method to use to avoid future ice dams. I did not ever indicate that I would be on site while the insulation was installed. My lead installer, with years of experience installing spray foam insulation on jobs just like this one is very capable of doing the work without my on site supervision. The report indicated the “Crew Chief” of the roofing contractor (who is a subcontractor of the roofing contractor and probably not an expert about closed cell spray foam insulation) was advising the customer that there wasn’t enough foam installed. My response is that there was more than enough spray foam installed on the porch ceiling, in fact there was more foam installed over the exterior wall and down to the soffit and additional foam installed over the family room ceiling that wasn’t part of the original bid. When the roof was off my installer could see there were areas not included on the bid that could use more insulation so he went over and above to do the job right and the owner didn’t pay any extra for it. Both the roofing “Crew Chief” and my installer were on the roof with the owner after the insulation was installed to inspect all the areas where the roof plywood was removed and all three agreed that the work was done properly. My installer did point out to both the roofing “Crew Chief” and the owner that there was one area he would suggest adding insulation however it was covered with plywood and the roofing “Crew Chief” was not willing to remove the plywood because it was not part of his original contract. This area could be what is causing the continued problem with “ice jams.” To address the complaint about disposal of the old insulation, I was told by the owner that the roofer would have a dumpster on site. I met the owner again in February 2011 to discuss his complaint of “ice jams”. I advised him that I wasn’t sure what was causing the “ice jams” because the insulation work was done properly. I suggested he make arrangements to have someone inspect his ceiling using an infrared camera. I didn’t hear anything from the owner until this report. On September 9, 2011, the owner, my installer and I met and agreed that the owner would make arrangements to have an energy audit done using a blower door test and infrared camera (which I suggested last February) at my expense and I will be at the home during the energy audit and I will continue to help resolve the “ice jams” issue. Robb Gass, Owner"
After we submitted this report, he finally responded and I got the information we needed. Thanks to Angie's List. I think Angie's List is another avenue that can motivate contractors to address homeowner concerns regarding this service/product.
