Zach did have to reschedule the job due to issues with his truck. He had a very unfortunate issue with his transmission and needed to get a new vehicle. I was understanding to this and Zach also did a great job of keeping me posted while he worked through this on his end.
The first day:
I was working from home and Zach showed up with a helper. He laid down wide boards in the grass to create a driveway for his skid loader. They both were very nice and stopped what they were doing, along with the loud equipment, when I came around with a question.
They began with cutting the concrete underneath the old section of deck I had recently removed. They cut this perfectly in line with our current upper deck as I had requested. They then proceeded to remove all of the railroad ties, bushes and rock.
They discovered that underneath the rock bed was additional concrete that needed to be removed. This did add to the cost of the job by an additional $300. I was not upset with this because I understand that it was not visible up until this point. It was also a LOT of concrete so I felt $300 was very fair.
The second day:
They removed the remaining concrete they had discovered and then came in with fresh black dirt. They leveled off the area with this dirt as we had requested so that we can plant fresh grass seed in the spring next year. It looked fantastic! It basically extended the size of our backyard by about 50%. We were very happy. Zach also emailed me the invoice that evening.
The third and final day:
Zach came back to pick up his skid loader and some remaining cinder blocks and things. He fluffed the grass back up where the boards laid for his skid loader to drive on and cleaned up very nicely. We exchanged payment via check.
All in all I felt they did a wonderful job. I took photos and sent them to my friends and family who had seen the look of things prior to Zach's work. They were all very impressed with how well they had done everything. My wife and I are very happy and can't wait to plant the grass next spring.
