Our experience with Stephen Longman and Stephen Longman Builders Inc. was awful. We were almost always disappointed with the pace, and quality of the work and in the end, it doesn't seem like it was less expensive than other options we considered. To make matters worse, the level of service and attention to detail was poor, leaving us with the responsibility and demands of overseeing the delivery of the work we hired Stephen Longman to do. One particularly good example: We moved into our new home in November, and soon after the weather turned cold. We immediately noticed several very cold rooms and suspected something was wrong with insulation. For three months we asked, then begged, and then demanded that he come out to look at the situation and address it. He refused, stating that he had personally inspected the insulation and knew there was nothing wrong. So I hired an inspector, who found that there were serious problems with the insulation in the areas we were concerned with, and several other problems that we had not yet noticed. Once we had a written report from a licensed inspector, Steve Longman came out to take a look. But instead of acting contrite and professionally, he treated us like we were wrong to even question him. He threatened that he could "void our warranty" because someone had entered the attic. They eventually made most of the required repairs, but that took more than 6 months and plenty of reminders, and even then, that only happened after we complained to the Better Business Bureau. We are still waiting for a report giving us details of the corrections that were made. At this point we've come to prefer hiring and paying quality contractors to fix remaining warranty issues or other errors, rather than working with Steve Longman to fix these issues for free.

The finished job looks great. Steve and his crew are responsive to questions and issues. The only negative was that the special flooring that I had requested was not installed with levelers as per the instructions that come with the product, and they ended up having to nail it down in a lot of places to keep it from being noisy while walking on it.
