Beds & Borders Landscape Design

We used Beds and Borders for the front steps and surrounding landscape. The way the original steps had been ‘encased’ within the retaining walls made the area impossible to shovel, so in winter the front door was either inaccessible or it was dangerously slippery to reach. Andy and Jesse came up with a gorgeous design that was more of a gentle pathway with landings instead of a standard staircase. It’s surrounded by native plantings and access paths to other areas of the yard. It’s so beautiful! They listened to what we were looking for and took into account our personal preferences on even small things. The crew was great about answering questions I had as the process moved along, and they also checked in with me if they had questions. On top of the excellent end product, the ‘business’ side was also great. Communication, schedule, cost—all as we initially discussed. I don’t hesitate to recommend them and would absolutely hire them again.

Starting from the very beginning of this project until the very end, this has been the most positive experience! Across the entire time frame (initial meeting 4/26 to finished project 9/1/23) communication was amazing. Andy and Jesse were very responsive and timely with phone calls, texts, and emails. Andy (owner & designer) and Jesse (designer) came for our initial meeting. They listened, understood our concerns related to the soft and hardscape issues we wanted to address and offered many creative ideas on the spot that we loved. Ours was an extensive project covering both front and back yards. It included paver walkways, paver patio, site-grading, irrigation, new beds, trees, shrubs, perennials, sod, new boulder retaining wall, repaired existing retaining wall, windows well repair and replacement, drain tile, dry stream bed, natural stone steppers. The design they came up with was detailed, creative and reflected our combined visions for the project. We were very involved homeowners with a lot of input, questions, and attention to detail and they welcomed our involvement, even though it resulted in Jesse updating the design 5 times before the project started. Andy and Jess are true artists as well as wonderful, patient human beings, who were a delight to work with! Once work began 8/21 the crew was here working every day until the job was done. We can’t say enough about the whole crew- Chris, Jared, Brian, Julio, Joe, Nathan, and Riley, (Jesse and co-owner Mike were here a few days as well)- they were friendly, respectful, fun, very hardworking and they really cared about the quality of their work. Despite working through a stretch of 90+ degree days no one was crabby or short tempered and they worked incredibly hard. We had a few last-minute changes that I worried would be a significant inconvenience for the crew but every time we asked for something to change, it was never a problem. They willingly accommodated our requests. Despite being off on a short get-away Andy has stayed in touch providing guidance for keeping our sod and plants alive during this heatwave over Labor Day Weekend. Now that the work has been completed, we are confident that Andy remains available to answer questions, provide resources and will stand behind the work Beds and Borders has done for us. Andy and Mike have figured out how to run a business with integrity, creativity, responsiveness, and kindness. The quality of their entire team is amazing. We feel so grateful to have found Beds and Borders for our project. We are thrilled with our new outdoor spaces, and we recommend them highly!

We used Beds & Borders for a recent patio design and installation to replace an aging deck, and everything turned out great! I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to friends and family. They were cost competitive with other bids that we received, they worked with us to put together a great design for our back yard, and their crew did a great job with the installation. Andy checked in with us frequently to make sure things were going smoothly, and the crew were also great to deal with for minor questions and details. Very pleased with the results!

Outstanding work! Andy from Beds & Borders is extremely passionate about landscaping and it shows from the work they do. From the initial design with Jesse, to the professional and friendly crew, the work was done fast and on time and looks absolutely gorgeous. Everything was perfect!

It went great. Andy and his crew were super responsive and worked closely with us. Many of our neighbor have been very positive about the result. Looks great. I have some construction background and my wife has a green thumb and were pleased with the care they took in their workmanship from the staff.

Andy is a standout in the landscape business. Very friendly and knowledgeable about all things hardscape and landscaping. Did a terrific job designing and building a gorgeous front yard. Andy and Jesse and their team at Beds and Borders were outstanding. We met with them late fall 2019 and they charged us a reasonable price for a comprehensive plan to completely re-landscape our home. This involved a new retaining wall at the front of the home, new front patio, multiple new planting beds, plant recommendations, sod work, a gravel bed under our trampoline, and a new irrigation system. Andy was very responsive and worked with us throughout as we asked for tweaks and revisions, how we could save money, what we liked, etc. The project was implemented this spring over the course of just 4 days and looks beautiful! We are very happy with the project and would definitely hire Beds and Borders again.

We have had a great experience working with Andy and Jesse. We needed to "start over" with our yard and they helped us figure out a design that would work for us. We knew we needed to do this project over several years and they worked with us to plan out this project in phases. We pruned and removed trees, put in a fire pit and landscaped around that area, landscaped areas in the back and front yards, we are putting in brick patio, landscaping around our house, and putting in a garden. We have been so happy with the work they have done so far and we now love being in our yard! I highly recommend them, and we will be continuing our phases until our whole yard is complete.

Andy's plan was just what I wanted. His crew were very efficient, and I always get advice on how to care for new plantings as well as suggestions for native plants for my garden.

The work was delayed for a couple of weeks due to rainfall, but went well and was completed in only two days. After completion we found that two of our irrigation lines had been damaged by the landscapers, but it was repaired within a week. Our back garden hose was also damaged, but we were reimbursed for the cost of replacing it. I appreciated the design presented to us by Jesse and the clear details of what to expect as the work was completed. I would recommend Beds and Borders to friends and neighbors.

Working with Andy and his team has always been a pleasure. Andy listened to us and designed a creative and beautiful landscape (with hard and soft elements) that was perfect for our personalities and lifestyle, and will, long term provide most of the functional elements we needed. His team is knowledgeable, punctual, polite & respectful, and hardworking. He gives plenty of notice before coming in to do work, and is crystal clear on the expectations of the homeowner in everything from being present during work to caring for plants in the first year. Andy also stuck with us over years of obtaining funding for our project, and he honored the terms of his guarantee for plant survival a year after planting, by re-designing and re-planting, at his cost, many plants that didn’t survive as well as expected. There are only two items to note: First, Andy’s prices are a bit higher than the competition. We felt the value he provided with his creativity and high service model was worth the extra price due to the complexity of our project. Second, part of our landscaping challenge is excessive water run-off from neighboring properties along with high clay soil. It’s a bad combination in this new world of torrential downpours. After a year of living with Andy’s solution, I feel that putting more rigor into design of water mitigation and working harder to amend the clay soil would have been beneficial. That said, Andy was very good about working within our budget and I recognize that additional water mitigation efforts, especially, would have exceeded our budget, so this is not a criticism as much as a note for home owners with similar problems to really push Andy to provide an option for a comprehensive solution from the outset and then determine which elements will be most impactful as you make budgetary choices. Andy as his team are top-notch and I recommend them to anyone with extensive and/or complex landscaping projects.

Went very well. Can't say enough. We had 3 different landscaping companies come in for an initial estimate. We were doing a full lot project and while we had an idea of what we wanted to do, we needed some suggestions and direction on what to do and how to approach. Andy and Jessie listened to what we were looking for and came up with some very concise ideas around what would work and fit our needs. Other companies who came in were frankly all over the place and really didn't seem to listen to what we were looking for. They were unorganized and weren't nearly as concise around what sort of vision they might have for our project. We went ahead and paid Beds and Borders to put together a design for us so we could visualize on paper. They put together a great design/blueprint that we used to make the final decision to go ahead with the project. This included pictures of the plants and trees they were suggesting. A huge help. We replaced our entire front yard with new sod, landscaped a small area by our front entry, landscaped an area by a deck in the back yard. Planted 15 new trees (about 6') for privacy in the back yard and planted 10 arborvitae for privacy in our front yard. Also tore out a small mulched area and seeding with grass. Crew was very much on time, on schedule, and made quick work of the project (barely 4 days). They took great care to minimize any damage to existing lawn, clean everything up at the end of the day, and were super courteous with the way they worked, even making sure not to block the garage/driveway with equipment, etc. We've had plenty of work done around our home and very much appreciate that kind of courteous work- something that's not really expected. Everything looks incredible and will really give us the privacy and outdoor space we're looking for as time goes on. Andy is very knowledgable, is super prompt answering any questions and returning calls/emails, and it's evident he and the rest of the crew have passion for what they do. Would definitely recommend hiring them for any project. Large or small. Only B (Good) rating above is for price. This only reflects they weren't the cheapest. Want to be clear- Cost of our project was very fair, not exorbitant. We would do project with them again and will hire them again in the future. Quality of their work well worth the money.

Beds and Borders performs beautiful landscaping features, stays in comminque' throughout the entire process, and follows up to ensure the ultimate quality results. What are most impressive is Andy and his staff make certain that the customer is included in decision-making and is given copious information on how to care for your landscaping environs.

Andy and his team were amazing. We'd have several landscapers to our home in the past--some disappeared when only some of the work was completed, others didn't listen. Andy gave us a creative, brilliant design in the colors we requested at an extremely reasonable price. A very professional, kind group of workers finished our job on time and within budget. This year, Andy came out in May to take a look at what plants hadn't survived our horrid winter (almost all did!), and replaced them within days. We've recommended Beds and Borders to several of our neighbors, who are using them for landscaping in their yards.

Beds & Borders did a spectacular job on our landscaping from design to completion. From the time that we started interviewing landscapers, Andy stood out for his enthusiasm, knowledge and ability to turn our ideas into a beautiful and livable design. Andy and Jesse put together a great design and worked with us on phasing and modifications to meet our budget. One of the things that I really appreciated was that they took our yard from demolition to completion in about three weeks, minimizing the time that everything was torn up. The design created interest and depth in our front yard and transformed our backyard into a beautiful space to relax and entertain. The plants they selected are beautiful and unique and the entire garden is growing out beautifully. We get so many compliments from our friends and neighbors! The Beds & Borders crew was professional worked hard to complete our projects. They cleaned up after each day and took care not to damage existing areas as they worked. Andy's subcontractors were all exceptional and coordinated well to get the project done. Spring rains did delay the schedule of some of the contractors but they kept us up to date on schedules and completed the work as promised. At completion of the project Andy provided us with a guide to take care of our landscape and manage any weeds, and he came out to replace some plants that failed over the summer. We are delighted with our yard and had a great experience with the whole process.. i highly recommend you check out Beds & Borders for your landscaping needs!

Andy and Jesse came out first to assess the project and came up with a great design and plan for the front yard. We were particularly impressed by Jesse's detailed design and the attention to the plant selection and aesthetics. Andy was very prompt with adjusting the estimate based on a few changes and was able to work our project in within a couple of weeks. On the project day, Andy's crew showed up on time and go to work. The end result was as expected if not better. We will be contacting Andy and Beds and Borders first next year if any major projects come up.

I live in a townhouse and Andy helped me navigate my quirky association board members and the grounds crew! :) I definitely would recommend them and would have them do work for me again.
