Minnesota Radon Specialists

The 2002 townhouse we purchased in June had a radon level of 4.6. We asked the seller for money at closing to hire a reputable company to handle the radon mitigation. (The company the sellers had gotten a quote from wanted to have a ridiculous tangle of pipes on the home's exterior and did not seem reputable; we didn't want them near our home.) Our search for a company that put safety first, led us to Minnesota Radon Specialists. Brian Benasutti and Tony Hay were excellent to work with. They, and their team, were on time, professional and had the work finished exactly when they said it would be done. Brandon Bui, the electrician who worked with them, also did excellent work. On the exterior of our home, there is only one small pipe sticking out of the back of the roof. The fan is in the attic, and the other parts of the system are unobtrusive in the mechanical room in the basement. After mitigation, the radon reading is now down to .4 and the work was approved by the city inspector. Besides all of that, the price was right. Minnesota Radon Specialists--which have all the appropriate training, care for the appearance of my home and the safety of its occupants--actually charged only $100 more than that fly-by-night company tried to charge the previous owners. The radon mitigation system and install was $1,250, and the electrical was $250. I feel as though I got great value AND the job was done right.

We called MN Radon Specialists when the company contracted to install our radon mitigation system didn't show up to complete the job. Brian answered the call and listened patiently to our story. We were under extremely tight deadlines as the system needed to be installed and retested within 7 days in order to close on the sale of our home. Initially Brian indicated that he was two weeks out; however he said that he could rearrange his schedule and be out that afternoon to install the system! As promised they showed up to do the work that afternoon. Brian called in advance to confirm how the system would be installed and provided the quote, which was $800 less than what the original company was going to charge us. The system was completed that afternoon and the post mitigation test was started. The test completed three days later and Brian emailed us the results. Our readings went from an average of 6.6 to .3! Thank you Brian and Tony for saving the day, we really appreciate the extraordinary service that you provided!

Tony came out quickly to give us a bid. His price was competitive and he seemed very knowledgeable and competent, so we hired Minnesota Radon Specialists to install our system. They were also able do the installation much sooner than many other companies. Tony and his crew arrived promptly and got the system installed by lunch time. Radon levels were reduced from 8.9 pCi/L to 0.5 pCi/L according to short-term tests. The exposed parts of the system in the basement and on the roof look very neat and orderly. Overall a very smooth experience.

Brian came to house to explain just how radon gas is diverted from under the house foundation with a radon fan and PVC tubing. He chose a good location that was acceptable to me and would best draw the gas from under the home and out through the garage roof. I was given an estimate of about $1200.00 for them to do all the work or $600.00 for do-it-yourself. I chose the do-it-yourself. A week later Brian showed up with all of the materials needed. He also drilled all of the 4 inch holes (including 1 hole through the concrete floor). Materials provided: fan; 40 feet of 4-inch PVC plus bends; PVC glue; manometer for airflow monitoring; caulking for floor hole, roof and walls. I have not retested yet but the system was relatively easy to install and is up and running. It is suggested to retest radon levels late fall when the house is closed up. As most homes in the midwest are likely to have some level of radon this is an easy and low-priced solution to the problem.

With in-floor heating, they tapped into our drain tile system, so the overall project ran about 4 hours. They had to vent from the basement through the garage and then out through the garage roof. Where they positioned it, we cannot even see the vent. From inside the garage we can observe the pressure sensor to show that the system is running. Radon levels dropped to less than 1.0.

Very well. The service men were here at the scheduled time, were very efficient. The installation took approximately 3 1/2 hours, they cleaned up after themselves and the system brought the radon level to below the minimum witthin 24 hours. The work and equipment installed is guarenteed for five years.

Brian came out for an estimate the day after he was called. He took the time to examine the features of my basement and was able to determine the best placement of the system - which in my case was running the exhaust pipe up through an abandoned flue instead of the traditional install through the garage. The work was completed as scheduled, the basement was electronically monitored for the next few days which showed the radon level steadily decrease and then settle at the new safe level. He was organized, professional, and I would definitely use him again.
