The folks from AJ's were responsive and return my call the next day. They sent someone out at my convenience, he was prompt, friendly, and professional.
They worked up a design and a quote for me in the next two days. I did give them a and quot;Band quot; grade in responsiveness not because they are slow, but because they do everything by postal mail instead of e-mail which added a few extra days. The quote and design was sent via postal mail and the deposit for the work needed to be sent by postal mail.
The price was on the high side, but they did give me options for elements that I could change to lower the overall price.
After I had ordered the work done I found out suddenly that I would be moving! I called in a panic that I needed to get the work done fast (so as to help me sell my house) or to cancel. They ran around, found a few substitute plant choices, and were able to get the work done in the next couple of days. Very impressive.
The work itself is beautiful and of high quality, it matches the quoted design exactly. I have had the landscaping for over a month now and all the plants appear to be thriving.

We set out to get 3 bids, AJ's, one came in higher and the last told us that they couldn't get to us for 4 months.
AJ's were great. Brad was the man we dealt with. His crew was very meticulous in setting the subgrade and base courses making the rest of the project proceed nicely. They used string lines, levels and a laser level. They had an ASV type of machine in the yard and made every effort to minimize disturbance to the natural terrain. They were not afraid of doing a lot of and quot;hand work.and quot; We were kept in the and quot;loop.and quot; We knew what they were going to be working on and they were aware of our concerns. Aj's had a couple of things that we really appreciated, Attitude and Effort.
The project started a little later than then planned and ran a little longer than planned. The late start was do to their extra effort on another project and weather. Our project ran longer due to the weather and a couple of add-ons.
The end product is beautiful. We are very satisfied customers.
We would definitely hire them again.

I removed the old wall and plants prior to their replacing the two level retaining wall. They showed up and finished when they said they would. There was limited access, so they were not able to use any equipment and all materials were moved by hand or with wheelborrows. There was no damage to the rest of the yard and everything was cleaned up well.

Bought a summer home in Duluth 2 years ago, and it had a nightmare of a back yard. AJ's has, over the past two years, removed an old shed, a rusted swing set, and overgrown trees and shrubs at the back of my lot. Then they completely regraded my back yard and installed french drains and drain tile to get rid of the annual river/swamp created by run-off from streets at higher elevations than my house. They also regraded my front lawn so it gradually slopes down to my front walkway and created a swale at the side of my house to drain rainwater, run-off, and ground water toward the street and not my basement. They re-sodded my entire back and front lawns. My yard had been a neighborhood dumping ground for big rocks, so they made a stone wall at the back of my property from all the rocks. They also put in a cement walkway from my driveway to my front door and created several gardens. AJ's came up with the plan for the drain system based on my input and their expertise. Their people are very nice, work steadily, and are great about answering questions and making changes as needed. One area they worked on last year didn't drain quite as expected so they came out this year and corrected it at no charge. I originally got 3 bids for the majority of the work. Cost-wise, their bid fell in the middle, but they had done a number of similar projects for other customers, so I had more confidence using them instead of other companies with less experience. I will definitely use AJ's in the future for all my landscaping projects!
