After searching high and low for a home that would accommodate our growing family without luck, we opted to add on. We contacted four different companies before deciding on JBS Roofing and Remodeling. John’s bid came in smack in the middle of our other bids without having to give up anything on our wish list. Throughout the project John was attentive to the many requests and questions we had, and never hesitated offering our son (age 9) an extra hammer or an “important job” to do. Our other sons came to love seeing him pull in to check on the job too. We came in under budget which allowed us to add in a few extras - We’ve been in our new master suite now for nearly four months and it couldn’t have been a more perfect decision. John and his crews were awesome! They were extremely helpful with decision making and prompt with getting the projects done. Any questions that I had were answered right away, and they were really great about a couple last minute changes that I decided I had to have. We recently decided we wanted to gut our partially finished basement, remove a load bearing wall and create a home theater and entertaining area. We called several companies and in the end picked JB Custom Carpentry. We're glad we did and absolutely love our finished basement! Working with John made the whole process easier from start to finish and we got exactly what we wanted. John met with us twice to consult on the project before we signed anything or started any work. He listened to what our vision was and gave us some great ideas of his own. Throughout the project he was timely, kept us up to date on what was going on and responded quickly to our questions. One of our biggest concerns was our budget. John communicated well with us when we asked for add ons and always let us know where we were with our budget before he did anything so there were no surprises. The quality of the work that was done is outstanding and the end result is a gorgeous, functional space. We've gotten compliments from everyone who has seen it. Quality work, dependable, and creative We have hired John from JB Custom Carpentry on 3 occasions. The first was a full basement finishing. Out of all the bids we obtained, his was in the middle. We went with him because he was the most honest with us about our ideas and how much it would cost, we also saw his finished work with a neighbors basement. The finish work on the woodwork is the smoothest that we had ever seen or touched. We challenged him by requesting an air exchange be moved and to redesign what the builder had laid out for the floor plan. John was able to accomplish this and the room had a much better flow and layout. The other thing that we really wanted was a wood framed coffered ceiling in maple. It turned out beautiful! It it the center of attention whenever we have guests over and makes the room very cozy. When it was time to demolish our builder grade wood deck and replace with a composite deck, we thought of John right away. Again he worked with us to redesign the layout and flow. He figured out a challenge with the steps and the solution is better than we could have thought of. Lastly, we hired him to build us a storage shed. We live in an association, so there are guidelines on any additions or outbuildings. John incorporated ours onto the back of the garage. We have a walk out, so there are retaining walls. He worked extra with the city to find a way to build the footings that were in compliance with codes and still met the dimensions we desired. During all 3 projects, we had kids (middle school) aged and pets home. He was respectful of them and never had any issues. Work site was always picked up, the neighbors never had issues with excessive cars or traffic in the area, and there was never loud music or smoking in or around our house by John or any of his workers. We definitely recommend John with JB Custom Carpentry. He does superior work, is honest, creative, and fair in his pricing with estimates that were spot on (never any extra fees).

JB Custom Carpentry answered our inquiry in a timely manner, listened to our wants and needs, gave us a timely and realistic bid, scheduled the project as to have the least amount of disruption for us, demonstrated flexibility when we wanted to make changes, had prompt and pleasant workers who did quality work, cleaned up after each step. The finished project was exquisite and we would use them again.

John was very easy to work with. He listened to our thoughts and needs. He offered suggestions when he had reason for doing so.  I appreciated his eye for color. He cleaned up the work areas very well and was considerate of our special needs.  I didn't have to micro-manage the project because he was on top of the tiler, cabinet maker, electrician, painters and plumber.
John installed the hardwood flooring and was meticulous with the trim.
We did not make our original target for completion. This was due, in part, to a complication in our own schedule.
We are very pleased with the final product.

We contacted John because a few of our friends had a positive experience with him.
During the planning phase, he listened to our needs and made some great suggestions that we ended up going with.  We had some challenges with figuring out how to design the roof lines to fit with our 2nd floor windows.  Other contractors we looked at couldn't come up with a way.  He was able to come up with a fantastic solution.  His quote was very competitive/fair.  
He took us to some porches he had built in the past.  Being open to showing us some past jobs went a long ways.  
The workmanship and quality were excellent.  We particularly liked his work crew who had been with him for years (this is important because in the end, that is who does most of the work).  They were polite and did quality work. We liked the fact that the work area was spotless at the end of each day.  
John stopped by at least daily to check on the progress, quality and our satisfaction.  When we pick a contractor we also pick "the person".  John is a quality person and we continue to see him around town and enjoy his company.

The expansion went very well! John was able to start the project earlier than expected (permit was approved quicker than anticipated)...excavation was done on a Saturday, foundation was completed a few days later, following Saturday John and his crew put up the entire structure in one day, a few days later interior garage wall between the 3rd and 4th stalls were removed, etc.

All in all - John maintained a clean job site (stray nails, etc were picked up before they left the job site each day), he also kept in communication with any sub-contractors he worked with to ensure they did the job properly and fixed any issues if/when they popped up (e.g. discovered exterior garage light was not centered after siding was installed, by the following day the issue was resolved).

Overall the job was completed in 5-6 weeks, well under the timeframe that was allotted in the contract.

We would highly recommend John for your home expansion/remodeling projects. He does quality work and is easy to work with.

I was very pleased with John Schlorhaufer's professionalism and knowledge. I asked many questions and had some concerns and he answered each and every one of them to my satisfaction. I had a general idea of what I wanted done and he added few more ideas which I was thrilled about and ended up loving them!. His team of subcontractors (plumbing, electrical, sheetrock, tile, painter and general carpenter) were all very highly skilled and professional. At the signing of the contract, John mentioned that if I had any jobs to do around the house that his team would do it for a reduced price, because there would be no additional trip fee-- (they were already at my house). I really took advantage of the suggestion and not only did I end up with a gorgeous new bathroom, but I also had everything on my to do list done by John's team. A big huge thanks to John and his team!
Another important note I want to add is that I am deaf, but John and each and every member of his team were just great in communicating to me. Never was there any problem. John would text me every night and tell me who was coming the next day and ballpark of what time to expect them. He made certain that they understood that I am a lipreader and therefore communicating to them was actually quite delightful.
I watched every step of the remodel and could NOT find any fault with anything.

We hired JB Custom Carpentry to remodeled our kitchen and main bathroom. JB and his decorator worked with us to pick out the tile, vanity tops, sinks and fixtures. He helped us customize the vanities and kitchen cabinets and suggested many features we would not have otherwise thought of. He had them custom built. He made suggestions and recommendations all along the way to help us save money or to make sure we were picking the items we would be happiest with. Everyone on his crew was friendly and very professional. The project was coordinated to minimize the time and amount of people who needed to have access to my house. Everything went quickly and smoothly and everyone cleaned up as they went didn't leave any messes. The whole project turned out better than we expected and we would not hesitate to do business with this company again. I would also like to add that I didn't make it easy as I changed a few things as we went which affected the price, but John was patient and made the changes that I requested without affecting the schedule.
