Knight Construction Design Inc - Home Renovation

Knight construction was a dream to work with. Not only were they helpful in the design process but were very attentive to our demanding schedule. They worked overtime to make the project come in on time and come in on budget. They were as fussy about the quality as we were. We plan on using Knight for additional projects in our home this year! Amazing craftsmanship, quality and caring!!

I contacted Knight and Gary Knight, the owner, came over for a walkthrough where I explained what I was thinking for remodeling and adding a room.  He answered my questions and provided his opinion about how things could be done.  I also knew what I didn't like, but was in desperate need of assistance in selecting paint, carpeting, lighting, etc.  I liked the fact that this is a smaller company and my service was very personalized. 
Gary scheduled an initial meeting where his subcontractors and interior designer all came within a 2 hour window and did measurements and talked to me about what I was looking for.  Gary provided support through the entire process.  He came back with a proposal and provided some options and alternatives and I signed.  I was very please that Knight was very flexible with my wanting changes and was willing to make changes and adjust the estimates accordingly.  There were no change request charges other than the actual charges of different materials.
All renovations and projects have problems, but I was very pleased with the fact that there were always solutions proposed for any issues I saw - even what others might call "picky."  The experienced Project Mgr., Jeff,  I worked with always had a solution.  To me it was most important to have what I wanted, and if/when necessary, I was even willing to pay a little more or have the project take a little more time.     
The design support I received was also exceptional.  One of the primary reasons I selected Knight was that they took care of everything from beginning to end.  For me, this was very important.  I found the designer helpful, talented and down-to-earth.  I was very concerned with all of the decision making involved in taking on such a large effort . Kristen saw me through all of the selections and along with the Knight vendors, make the process seem effortless.  I am so very happy with all of my selections (and my neighbors are very impressed.)
Prior to hiring Knight, I had read a review that they were priced a little higher than others, but the higher quality was worth it.  I do know that Knight has high quality contractor vendors and also expects high quality from them. 
Overall, Knight Construction Design is a reputable, high quality, honest vendor.  The end product was better than I ever expected and i am very pleased.
     

I couldn't be more happy with every aspect of my project.
The initial bidding process was very smooth. Phone calls and emails were returned quickly.
The design phase was a lot easier than I have experienced with other companies. They helped me pick out some materials at their own design-center, and for the rest of the materials they gave me great recommendations of suppliers around town that I found to have excellent stuff and very helpful staff.
Construction was a breeze too. Their sub-contractors were very professional and did great work. They also kept to the schedule which made my life a lot easier. Whenever I had questions or concerns about some of the work going on I would fire off a quick email and I'd get a response almost immediately and the problem would be addressed by the next day.
My only complaint would be about something that wasn't really their fault. There was a delay manufacturing the flooring which held up the start of construction. Again this was not their fault but a problem with the supplier, and they did a good job of keeping me informed about the problem and the changes to the schedule.
I am thinking of doing some additional work on my home in the future and I will certainly be using these guys again.

It was a pleasure to work with Knight Construction throughout the entire process.  They were always professional and responsive.  We were a little nervous about having the windows and doors replaced during the winter.  It was a bitter cold winter, but they were so efficient that it was only a minor inconvenience.  There were a few window and door openings that were resized as part of the project.  Before they took the existing windows out, they made sure to isolate that part of the house (i.e. hanging a plastic barrier or closing the door to the room) to prevent heat loss from the rest of the house.
Every question and concern was replied to and taken care of immediately.

We were planning a home renovation with a 2nd floor addition to our 1903 home.  At first contact, Gary was responsive and met me at my home to discuss the project. Initially, he stated that he would be unable to provide a true estimate without more detail and suggested that we hire an architect to make some drawings.  We did this, and he came back promptly to discuss our plans once this was done.  Gary walked us through his thought process, brought in his subcontractors to review the project and then gave a detailed estimate.  We also discussed the project with his interior designer to get a feeling for the type of finishes that we wanted.  Throughout the process, Gary was nothing but professional.  I feel like he was honest and straightforward in laying out his expectations.  Ultimately, the reason we did not choose him to complete the project was due to the expense.  I also felt that our meeting with his designer did not go very well, in that I don't think she understood exactly what we wanted for the design.  I think they do a great job of high end finishes, but did not necessarily give that much consideration to our maximum budget and as a result, the final estimate came in higher than what we wanted.  We made some suggestions to see if these would reduce costs, but they did not.  In spite of this, there were no suggestions made to help reduce the cost of the project.  While I can appreciate not wanting to compromise quality of work, there seemed to be a relative inflexibility to compromise on finishes, etc. in order to meet our budgetary constraints.

We had water damage in our basement. The timeline to get things done was the most important factor. Trying to do it on our own would have taken all year. They were able to get all the pieces put together and meet our deadline.
We had several miscommunications along the line. It was an annoyance for us and caused some frustration. But the things they could fix, they fixed quickly. 
We told them we would be doing a lot of the finishing ourselves to save money. I had hoped that their designer would still give us some assistance with making choices. Or her replacement when she went on maternity leave. We would have appreciated the help.
Overall, we are happy with the result. Our basement is warmer and more comfortable. We'll see how it holds up to water this spring.

It was pretty good.  They were not very responsive at first.  They got it done quickly. At first they got the wrong cabinet doors and went ahead and installed them.  We had to re-order the correct cabinet doors.

I was extremely disappointed with their in-house designer.  She didn't listen to my specifications and communicated poorly about the design in general.  This resulted in very expensive mistakes when she ordered materials before confirming the price with me.  What's more is this actually voided the contract that I signed with the company because it specifically states that all orders and prices have to be confirmed with me prior to purchase.  I also had to pay an additional $1500 to have a kitchen table constructed from scratch that would fit her design plan. This should have been part of the original design plan.

Although the job was to remodel 1950's-era original bathroom - a small project in terms of sq. ft., but Knight Constr. made it seem as important as a McMansion spa/salon.  At first contact Knight Const. was professional and polished. Their staff designer listened to our ideas and offered suggestions when asked.  We quickly learned to rely on their expertise and glad that we did. 
Deadlines were met to the day and budgets to the penny.  Project management was well coordinated and kept us abreast of work schedule as it progressed.  Throughout, sub-contractors were able, polite and considerate.
As the project came to a close and several days after the mirror was placed exactly where we specified, we changed our mind about its
location.  Without comment and with a smile, the project manager (Jeff) returned the next day and re-installed it 4 in. lower, then patched and repainted the holes left by the original installation.  A small thing perhaps, but it was in our minds emblematic of their commitment to customer service.  There were no hitches, glitches or unnecessary delays.  
No question this is a first-rate operation. We are in love with the appearance and the experience of using our beautiful new bathroom.

We haven't really done anything yet.  They were a little bit expensive and I felt the estimate was pretty high.  I'm probably going to be having all the ones back that I had before because there is some stuff that I probably won't have done because of the pricing so I'm going to see how the estimate comes back at that time.  The person that came out to do the estimate was very good.  He explained everything and what had to be done as well as how it should be done.  I haven't really had any problems with any of the ones that came out but it's just that I was thrown when I heard all the estimates.  Everybody was kind of in and around the same ballpark.  I probably will be using one of them but I just not sure yet.  There was nothing wrong with the company or the person that came out.  I just didn't realize it would cost so much for my basement.  When they did tell me when they were coming out, they were here when they were supposed to be.

The porch is beautiful and everything went as planned--there were no surprises and no missed deliveries or appointments.Great job!  We have a new project coming up and Gary is the
only person I contacted to bid on it because they are the only ones we want to work with.

Knight Construction did an outstanding job on a very large scale, complex remodel.  Our family remained in the home during construction and Knight's workers were always more than accommodating and conscientious of our difficult living situation.  Jeff is a hard worker and an understanding family man who was invaluable to a family going through a major renovation.  Gary was always more than accessible and I never had any doubt that he would do whatever it took to make us happy.  The attention we received was far beyond my expectations.  The quality of work was far beyond our expectations as well.  We plan to use Knight Construction again in the future for our mudroom addition.

It went great.  Gary has always been easy to reach and talk to for any questions large and small.
Dates/times for the work anything needed from me have always been communicated.
The Quality of the work itself has been fantastic.  And I've been told that the new chimney has actually been built BETTER than the one it replaced, so there's much less potential of future damage.
Overall I would very much recommend Gary Knight & Knight Construction.  And should I need any further work due to storms or just general improvements, I will myself definately be calling Gary.

Gary and his team helped us completely re-design and reconfigure the main floor of our circa 1988 home.  We eliminated the formal living and dining rooms.  We created a den in the front of the house, and opened-up the entire back area of the house into one large area of living space that contained a large, beautiful kitchen and family room.  The designers were able to help me build a huge custom island with all of the top-of-the line appliances that I wanted.  Gary even found a way to build me a walk-in pantry that is hidden behind the custom cabinet-fronts (everyone is jealous when they see it for the first time!)  In the family room, Gary and his team helped us build new custom cabinetry, and a beautiful new stone surround for our wood-burning fireplace.
When I've called Gary with follow-up questions, he has always been quick to respond.  All of his work has been of the highest quality.

It was a pleasure working with Gary and his staff.  They all did a great job and followed up with any issues.

We used Knight Construction to remodel our main level and basement. We
had a few different bids and one of the great parts about working with
Gary was that he also has a designer. Our original remodel plan was
expensive and may not have been the best layout. Gary and Kristen came
up with another plan all together that fit our budget and ended up being
a much better design.
They have very professional staff and a
great project manager Jeff who has great communication and is fantastic
to work with. The work performed was very well done. The work area was
typically very clean as well. We were not the easiest clients either.
There were plenty of changes and questions and the Knight team was great
to deal with. They had no issues with any of the changes and gave great
advice based on their experiences.
The overall experience has been a good one and I would definitely recommend Knight.

Knight Construction Design is a great company to work with!  Renovating an older home can lead to many unplanned surprises, and we came across a few!
We thought one picture window was a single pane, but upon demolition, we discovered that it was actually three separate window panes.  Knight Construction Design immediately made the correction, reordered new custom-sized windows and made sure that I had the best possible outcomes.
One bedroom had an over-sized, large bay window.  Knight Construction Design resized the window to a more energy efficient size and built out a bench in front of the new bay window.  I absolutely love it!
I was so happy with the quality of the work that I asked them to gut an old staircase in the center of my house and replace it with beautiful oak stairs, bannister and handrail.  The quality of the carpentry work is excellent, and I have had numerous compliments on my new staircase.

The results are beautiful. The new layout makes the kitchen look much bigger and has better traffic flow. They also refinished the floors and added new lighting to the kitchenette and hallway, so the design ties in with the rest of the house. We have much better functionality and the kitchen is the center of focus in the house now.

Knight Construction kept the stress of a remodel to a minimum.  Jeff H. handled all the sub contractors with high professionalism, Kristen kept on budget and on trend.  Thank you for all the genuine help and care you showed us throughout.

Went great! Good service, pleasant workers, honest and hard working. Good follow through. On time project. Pays attention to detail and values the homeowners. Excellent finish carpentry. Designer, decorator takes on the task and does the leg work.

The project went very well even though there were holidays involved. The inconvenience usually involved with a remodel was at a minimum.

Our project went very smoothly and Knight Construction has been very good to work with.  We are looking forward to doing our third project with them on renovating our upstairs bathrooms in the future.

We started by visiting the showroom in Chanhassen at Knight Construction.  From there we discussed all of the options we had to choose from.  The design team came to our house to take measurements and completed a new design of our kitchen.  A few days later they had architectural plans for us to consider.  The process was very smooth and only took a few days for us to make our decision.

We are extremely pleased with the results of our remodels and would not (and have not) hesitated to recommend Gary?s firm to our friends and neighbors. His workers were professional, courteous and very willing to make certain the results met with our expectations. Gary has stood behind the workmanship of his projects even several years after completion.
