"I appreciate the review [Member Name Removed] but we've never worked for you before."
Only disappointment was we wanted the tree stump ground down and they couldn't do that.
Later that day, I contacted Jim and he was able to come out to the house and inspect the tree that evening. Jim was very professional, inspected the tree and discussed the options we had with the situation. I found him to be very well informed about his line of work and reasonable in his service pricing. Recognizing our concern about the tree falling at any time and upcoming storm forecasts, he prioritized the work rearranging some of his lower priority jobs on his schedule for the week.
Just two days later on a Thursday, Jim and his assistant were on the property with the necessary equipment promptly at 8:00 am, working on taking the tree down. As I casually watched Jim orchestrating the removal of the tree limbs one by one from up in the tree, I was amazed at the safety-conscience, efficiency and pace at which the tree came down. As large amounts of limbs gathered on the ground, his assistant, between tying off limbs to be cut by Jim, was grinding up all the limbs into their truck. All without a scratch on the chain-link fence, fire pit and house decking within reach of the towering tree.
The large tree trunk sections were picked up the next day and the yard was cleaned up leaving only the stump. The stump was ground down the following week, the chips cleared and hauled away. Jim even hauled in some black dirt and spread it over the new flat ground where the massive tree, that we will miss, once stood. Needless to say, we were very pleased with the prompt and professional service received from Jim Steele Tree Maintenance, Inc.; we recommend their service and will definitely be working with Jim and his crew for our entire tree servicing needs in the future.
As for stump removal, Jim recommended another man for that work. This person, too, was terrific. He removed the stumps from the trees Jim removed and also 3 existing stumps close to the foundations of house and garage. He and his son did everything they said they would. Their work was excellent and they charged a reasonable price. I would use them again and recommend them to you. You can get their names from Jim.
The only downside to this project concerned Xcel Energy. I asked Xcel to trim the branches 15 feet away from the power lines so Jim could safely get up there to do his work. Xcel scheduled their work twice and twice they failed to show up or even call. Both of these days Jim had his equipment and crew there ready to move in after Xcel finished. Xcel was horrible to work with. They didn't care about anything - me or Jim, his crew, his schedule and loss of time and money. Xcel didn't even care about the fact the tree branches were resting on power lines and neighborhood kids climbed these trees.
So twice Jim waited and waited and finally left when it was obvious Xcell was a no-show. Eventually, Xcel did do the trimming. I have to say, if you have to get Xcel in to trim branches back from power lines, don't expect them to adhere to the dates and times they give you, and don't expect communication from them. They'll get the job done but they'll do it in their own time, will keep you in the dark, and when you complain will turn and walk away saying over the shoulder, "I don't know anything about that."
