May-4-2021 Our driveway was installed in September 2020. We noticed significant chipping in February 2021 on the driveway and dark spots on part of the stoop. Norsk Concrete Construction is blaming the damage on their concrete provider and the concrete provider is blaming it on salt. We did not use salt on our driveway and barely left our house during the winter because of Covid. At this point, the concrete vendor is willing to replace some but not all of the chipped areas - this would result in the middle of our driveway being replaced; they are not addressing the spotting on the stoop. I paid for a new driveway that would be competently installed with quality products. A poor explanation for the driveway’s failure and a patchwork job as a resolution is not a successful remedy. Norsk will say they are a company that stands behind their work but they do not stand behind their final product. I will update this post as I continue to work with Norsk. I am hopeful that they will prove to be a reputable company, but at this time I cannot endorse them as such. Update May-5-2021 I contacted Norsk's concrete provider who will do tests to determine the specific problem. Norsk did contact me and all parties have agreed to testing. Update May-6-2021 Aggregate, the concrete provider, came and looked at our driveway. They do not think the chipping was caused by salt. They thought perhaps the stain on the stoop was caused by something spilling into the concrete when it was poured. They also thought that Norsk waited too long to make the cuts in the slab. They aren't sure what caused the chipping but they mentioned a couple of possibilities, one being water was added when finishing or two the section was over finished causing water to rise to the surface. They said the entire pour needed to be replaced. I have posted picture of their work to google reviews

"I should note that this complaint was sent to a old email address that we no longer use at all.I originally received emails and phone call from this customer. At that time I tried to calm the customer down and reassured her that we do stand behind the work we do and we would look at it as soon as the weather allowed. The pictures she sent still had snow and ice on them.We did go look and also asked our supplier to look and give us their professional opinion. We had called and text our supplier. They were not able to go out at that time. Our regular sales representative had changed jobs. At that time we decided to replace the sections of driveway that were damaged. I called the customer and told them that we were replacing damaged concrete. I received another call saying that there was discoloration on the stoop and cement splatter they wanted cleaned up. Something either was draining on that stoop or spilled or maybe even a planter on it to cause that discoloring. It looks wet. If this was caused by our employee's, I'm sure this customer would not have let them leave and say 5 to 6 months later I have discoloration on my stoop. If there is cement splatter the employee's should be cleaning that up. Long story short, our supervisor and employee's went out to replace damaged sections of concrete. We got a call saying customer was yelling and wanted whole drive replaced and stoop. Owner told the guys that they do not have to take that from anyone. Pack up the trucks and leave. She did call our supplier and yelled and got them to come out the next day. They are testing the concrete to see if they can find the cause. I want to make this very clear that we did not blame our supplier for anything and our supplier never told us anything that she is stating above. All the things she said about control cuts and water, salt, those are her words to me before she even spoke to our supplier. Of course, we do not want to see anyone's driveway ever look like this one."

We had a mixed experience with Norsk Concrete. The work they did was good quality, and done efficiently. They didn't clean up after themselves very well, but the main problem was that poor communication resulted in some of the expected work not being done, and we were not able resolve this with Norsk afterwards. After the work was scheduled, Randy and I were not able to connect before he began the job. I left him a message the evening before, and when his team arrived before him that morning, I asked them to have him call me when he arrived. He never called, and by the time I was able to speak with him, the work was halfway done - excluding a small portion of sidewalk whose replacement I believed was included in our quote. The quote we received was mostly a list of measurements without much description - I had walked Randy through the backyard, explaining what we needed done - so it was difficult for us to know that it had been skipped. Randy said it was too late to complete this disputed section that day, but that when he and his team were back in the neighborhood they could come back and finish it. Based on this I expected to hear back from him within a couple of weeks. The Norsk team did not fully clean-up after themselves (they left several chunks of old concrete for us to haul away ourselves), and left a 4-inch gap between the un-replaced sidewalk and section they did replace (see photo0. All of this suggested they would be back soon. They did not return, and we did not hear from them. We called the Norsk office after a couple of weeks to check in on when they might return. We received no response from Randy. Since then, we’ve called the office multiple times and been told multiple times that Randy will call us back, but he never has. We've made it clear that we will of course pay for the additional concrete, we just want some idea of when they will return. The last time we called, we were told that Randy is “irritated” with us, despite never actually speaking to us himself. Because Randy was not willing to spend much time talking to me on the job site, and was never willing to talk to us on the phone, we continue to have a misunderstanding about what our expectations were for the job and what was delivered. Better communication from the beginning would have gone a long way, but the refusal to work with us to resolve the issue is the real problem. Update: Due to some ponding on the concrete they put in, Norsk came back to replace that section, and completed the originally missed segment of concrete for an additional $300, which we felt was fair. While we still wish Norsk had been more communicative throughout this process which would have helped alleviate the confusion, we appreciate they returned to correct an issue with the concrete. We’ve upgraded their review from D to C

The steps replacement was slightly more complex with the location being over an empty cavity rather than on level soil. The top foundation block were crumbling from water damage. Norsk was the only company to address the crumbling foundation block when I was getting quotes. Thanks for that, Randy! Norsk even arranged for someone to come to remove and install a new door and frame as this was necessary to be done at the same time.
Note: There was one residual of an electrical line being accidentally pulled, but Norsk was on top of that immediately to resolve the problem.
The Norsk work went smoothly and the final results are absolutely wonderful. I was very satisfied with the attention to details, response, and outcome.

I had four different contractors come out to give me bid’s on putting in a 41’ x 14’ concrete slab. All four contractors also had good reports reflected on the BBB. Randy, from Norsk Concrete – Construction was punctual and arrived on time for our appointment. He was knowledgeable and polite. Norsk Concrete – Construction’s bid was the 2nd lowest bid we received. Randy, took the time to really explain the details of the work his company would perform, and he was very personable. We decided to use Norsk Concrete – Construction for our project. The project was completed on the day Randy said it would be, and in fact only took 6 hours to complete. There was a team of approximately 5 workers, including Randy. All of them were very polite and treated our property with respect. They cleaned up after themselves. And the concrete slab looks wonderful!! Norsk Concrete – Construction did a great job, and should we ever need concrete work or help with a construction project, they will be the first company we call. Thank you Norsk Concrete; it was truly a pleasure doing business with you!

I just got a good feel from the guy when he came out. He was very prompt when he came out to bid it. He called and let me know he was coming. All my dealings with him he was on the phone and let me know what was going on and so I was real happy with that. I would definitely use them again in the future.

He was on time, and completed the work in a timely fashion. The quality was good, and I had no concerns at all. I thought it went well. I got two estimates, and his was the lower of the two. I was very happy with the project. It has stood up well over the winters without cracking. The slab out front has also stood up well.

Norsk was one of five concrete companies we contacted for bids. They were very good about arranging a time to come to the house to give us a bid. Their description of the work to be done was a bit more involved than some of the other bids, but they explained their reasons due to the condition of the current steps and what would correct the problem. The old steps and the sidewalk were separating from each other to where the distance up to the first step had gotten close to 12 inches. Norsk favored a complete tear out and replacement of the steps and sidewalk compared to other bids that were more cosmetic in nature. However the Norsk bid fell within the range of the other bids. All bids were blind, no information was shared between companies.
Starting the work was delayed a couple of times due to the weather and rain in late October. But once Norsk began the work, they finished quickly as the weather allowed. As the work was done, several hidden problems were found with the steps and sidewalk (some 30 years ago, before we owned the home, a second sidewalk was poured over an existing sidewalk). While a couple of the other bidders may have just covered these over and not found them, following Norsk's recommendation to completely replace the steps to take care of any hidden problems turned out to be the best advice we took.
The work was completed in the time frame given (other than the start time delayed by weather) and the bid was spot on. When they removed the sidewalk forms, they did some extra work of doing some fill along the sidewalk. That really reduced the work we needed to do afterward. The finished steps and sidewalk look just great. We are very happy with the work and the experience.
Will definitely include Norsk to provide bids and input to any future projects.

They did it really quite well. I researched their company, and they have been in business for a long time, and I got to know the guy. I think I can give them a good grade. During spring in every year or two, the concrete cracks, and they were easy to work with. It's a good company, and I would recommend them. They charged around $5000 for the driveway and $2500 for the additional things that I wanted. There was something special about them. I would definitely use them again in the future; in fact, I am thinking of having another piece of concrete made for the walkway and may be they will be the first ones whom I would contact.

Very well. The company has been around for 60 years and it's a seasoned, likeable, salty crew that really knows their craft. The owner stopped by and completed a bid which was substantially less than 3 others. It was a tricky job requiring supports, adhering to specs from a structural engineer and lightweight concrete. They completed the job in a timely fashion as promised. Randy is an owner who is straightforward and you're not dealing with a polished salesperson. If you want to be stroked he's not a great fit but if you want quality work at a very reasonable price I highly recommend Norsk.

I had used Norsk twice before but the third time was no charm... I called Randy a couple days before work was to be done to make a minor change in the order, expecting we’d discuss later in person to make sure all was understood. But when he arrived he basically ignored me. At one point I went out and stood 10-ft away from him and he never made eye contact. Finally I piped up asking, “So you understand everything that needs to be done?” He grunted “yep,” still never once looking at me. So I shrugged, said “OK” and walked away. Sure enough, when I got home to inspect the work I found it wasn’t done properly. I called to discuss and Randy was rude—he actually hung up on me in the end. He did come out next day to remove more concrete but he hadn't been paid yet so he had no choice. I’d be sympathetic to his point of view except: 1) I clearly drew with chalk on the driveway exactly where I wanted concrete removed; 2) When I tried to discuss that morning he ignored me. Even so, I’d let bygones be bygones but then the proverbial straw broke the camel’s back: With the first freeze, 3 major cracks/breaks developed in the new small slab—it’s as bad now as the old concrete I had him remove! Yes, Norsk gave a low price but who cares if you get shoddy work and aggravation in return. Misunderstandings happen but there was no excuse for Randy’s attitude.
UPDATE: The company's response just isn't accurate. No, Randy was told about the last change, which involved where the old concrete should be cut--he simply misunderstood. There was nothing and quot;free of chargeand quot;--I stated what I wanted done (which included moving the playhouse and whatever concrete was poured) and he submitted a quote. Period. Whether he accounts for something as and quot;freeand quot; or billable is irrelevant to a customer. Next, Randy describes coming and quot;out there twiceand quot; and and quot;many talks on the phoneand quot; but that's misleading--we discussed a few potential jobs over the course of a year. Pretending that these conversations all revolved around this job is bogus. Last, in the end, who cares?! The concrete he poured broke apart during the following winter. The and quot;cost we agreed onand quot; I assumed meant the concrete would last for more than six months.

"This gentelman changed his mind three times and I was out there twice had many talks on the phone with him. He forgot to say he did not tell me about the last change. He called me and I and my crew went out to re-cut what he finaly decided. He also does not say the extras we did free of charge. We added aditional footage to his sidewalk free of charge. I do not think it is fair for this customer to say what he said. We c ompleted the job in a timely manor at a cost that was agreed on . We also moved his playhouse at no charge. Thank-you Randy Jackson Norsk Concrete"

A representative came out to look at the job and provide an estimate the same day I called. The bid was significantly less than others I received. The job was fairly small and other companies were reluctant to do it. Norsk Concrete scheduled the work when I'd requested and arrived by 7:00am with several truckloads of equipment and an experienced and friendly crew. The old concrete and asphalt was cut, broken-up, and removed and the new forms were built, and slabs poured, and finished well before lunch time. Aside from the inherent difference in color of the new concrete, there is no evidence that it was a repair and what was a ragged, chipped, and poorly patched aging slab now looks brand new.

We have a house that we are trying to sell that was inspected by an inpector, which was hired by a buyer that had made an offer on the house. After reporting that the foundation had numerous, very serious problems (among other things), the buyers used the report as an excuse to pull their bid. We asked Randy to meet with the realtor, at the house and see if there was anything visible that would back up the information in the report. His opinion was that it was an 89 year old house with a foundation that was typical for that style and age of house. There was, in his opinion, no reason to suspect structural defects. He was also willing to put his professional opinion in writing. So far, all those who have looked at the inspection report and are familiar with the house wonder where the inspector came up with some of his claims. Randy's assistance in this matter has helped us a great deal. Our next step will be to fix one or two simple issues and then hire a knowledgeable inspector.

Norsk came in with a bid that was 20 percent lower than 2 other well rated Angie's List companies. They initially said there was almost a two week lead time, but they came within the first week. The job was done in a single day. They did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. Overall, I'm satisfied with the quality of their work. The swail they put in to manage water runoff is nicely done. The only downside is there are some lightly visible foot prints in the concrete where a worker walked. (That's the reason I didn't rate quality as excellent, but everything else about the job was very good). I'm very happy we had Norsk do this job.

They just did an excellent job. We are so impressed with the company. They were a 3rd the cost of 3 or 4 other estimates that we got. They were very, very neat, not mess. Arrived on time and got it done on time. I would definitely hire them again and recommend them to others. We had them do some work for us 20 yrs ago and we were just as impressed back then.

Very impressed by Randy Jackson and his crew - no nonsense get it done and do it right - hard workers and very polite. I had several bids both asphalt and concrete - Norsk was not the cheapest but took the time to take me to one of their jobs in this area to see the quality. They told me exactly what they were going to do and how ( reinforcing and quality of concrete from mix plant) I would hire them again and highly recommend this company.

EVERYTHING WAS BEAUTIFUL, AND THEY DID A GOOD JOB. THEY NOTICED PROBLEMS WITH THE PREVIOUS CONSTRUCTION AND THEY WERE ABLE TO CORRECT IT.

GENERALLY QUITE GOOD, THOUGH I FELT THE PRICE WAS A BIT HIGH AND THE GRADING WAS NOT DONE AS PRECISELY AS I WOULD HAVE LIKED. (IT WAS ORIGINALLY A VERY STEEP DRIVEWAY, AND THEY LOWERED THE GRADE, THOUGH THE TRANSITIONS BETWEEN GRADES ARE NOT AS SMOOTH AS I WOULD HAVE LIKED.) THE RESULTING WASHED AGGREGATE LOOKS GORGEOUS, HOWEVER. THIS IS OUR SECOND EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SAME COMPANY, AND WHILE THEY'RE NOT BAD, I SUSPECT WE COULD DO BETTER WITH ANOTHER COMPANY.

GOOD WORK OVERALL BUT I HAD ASKED THAT THEY WAIT ON THE WORK UNTIL I WAS BACK FROM VACATION, WHICH THEY DID NOT DO. THE QUALITY OF THE WORK WAS GOOD, THOUGH THE STEPS HAVE SETTLED QUITE A BIT SINCE THEN. (NOT NECESSARILY THEIR FAULT -- THE POUR WAS BEING DONE NEAR A FOUNDATION THAT HAD BEEN BACKFILLED ONE YEAR PRIOR.)

THEY WERE FAST, CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES AND DID AN EXCELLENT JOB. RANDY HAS AN EXCELLENT EYE FOR WHAT THE JOB SHOULD LOOK LIKE AND ALSO FOR DETERMINING HOW TO PROVIDE DRAINAGE. ONE AREA DID NOT TURN OUT WELL BECAUSE IT STARTED TO RAIN. THEY CAME OUT PROMPTLY, TORE OUT THE SIDEWALK AND POURED A COMPLETE NEW ONE. WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO ASK FOR THE NEW SIDEWALK. HE SIMPLY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID IT WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND THE NEXT DAY IT WAS REDONE.
