Charged $199+tax for a "Chimney Cleaning and Video Inspection." We didn't have any cleaning done (in fact, the tech's recommendations say "recommend cleaning the fireplace"). The only images I saw were a few photos from when he stuck his iphone up the chimney and took three pictures. Didn't get any video. After initially saying the fireplace looked fine, the tech changed his mind on further inspection and said it was, in fact, unsafe. The tech recommended an insert - I asked if that was actually OK, given that the existing fireplace was unsafe - but he insisted it was. I looked up the installation manual for the insert he recommended, which says: "Make sure that the chimney and wood-burning appliance are in a clean and sound condition and constructed of non-combustible materials. If necessary have any repair work done by a qualified person before installing the insert." To my knowledge this is true of all inserts.

Perfect. I cannot say enough good things about this company. They are so polite, patient and professional. They were on time, did excellent work, cleaned up every last scrap inside and out, and followed up with a check-in. Fantastic experience and I will use them again for all cleaning and work on my parent's house.

We called the company and were given an appointment for the very next day. We had planned to install one large chimney cap to cover 4 chimney flues on top of our large chimney. We were given the pros and cons of one large cap vs four separate caps along with price estimates. We were advised to go with 4 caps to protect the integrity of our brick chimney. The 4 stainless steel caps were installed that same day. We hadn't planned on getting advice on installing a fireplace insert but, it turned out that the company also sells inserts so we had the fireplace measured and were given good advice on installing an insert. We put off that decision for a later date.

Well, to start, I called the company and they had a next day opening...was not expecting that.  The process itself went well though we are not happy with the results at no fault to the vendor.  There were cracks in our caps, so they gave us 3 options of what we could do to fix it.  He didn't have to come back later to do it, when we decided what we wanted to do, he just did it right then and there.  Then as a result of the additional inspection, we found out we need major repairs done to our 2nd chimney.  He informed us of the state code that clearly wasn't followed when we were sold the house and once again gave us 3 options as to what we can do to fix it as well as a general estimate.

I could not be more pleased with this company.  I wish all companies provided the same level of customer service, knowledge, professionalism, great communication, fair prices and amazing workmanship as 2nd Generation Chimneys.  They are super.  I highly recommend them.   If I could, I would give them an A+ for all categories.

These two guys called ahead to alert me they were 20 mins out, showed up on time, and were super clean - took off their shoes and laid down protective coverings on my hardwood floors. They did a thorough inspection outside and in and allowed me to watch their live camera inspection so there would be no surprises later, i.e. photo-shopped pics of my debilitated chimney. These guys couldn't have been more professional, friendly or knowledgeable - they gave me options for the future and capped off my chimney with a steel cap so that no rain or chimney swifts or other small animals come inside while I'm waiting to begin the work. I need a new steel liner and I knew this needed to be completed so there were no surprises. My housing inspector (not a great one) had recommended Jack Pixley for the job. Turns out Jack Pixley has been dead for over 4 years and his one-time great company is doing shoddy work. His son now runs 2nd Generation chimney. No Pixley's own or work for Jack Pixley. So if someone recommends Jack Pixley, go with a real Pixley and call 2nd Generation Chimney. These two did not sugar-coat what I was looking at spending should I rebuild the chimney. They gave me alternatives for inserts that are way cheaper than repairing the original structure, gave me the pros and cons of both jobs, and did NOT try to sell me ANYTHING. As a new homeowner, whom everyone and their uncle is attempting to sell something to, I appreciate this approach. They are also CSIA certified and that bears weight with me - I value my home enough to go the extra mile in ensuring it is protected by having specialists perform the work. I will definitely go with them when the time comes. I trust them and that is often worth $$$ to me.

My house has two fireplaces. The original one from 1962 had not been used in more than 15 years. The current tenants wanted to use it, but an inspection last fall showed the tiles were damaged. I was able to have the work done this year, so the fireplace will be in working order for this winter.
Second Generation has been inspecting and cleaning my other fireplace for 25 years. They are really nice guys and have always been on time, friendly and professional.

2nd Generation performed the work as scheduled and was always on time. David and his crew were very helpful and David explained what was required to have a safe chimney. While not in the plan, it became necessary to open the back of the firebox to successfully complete the liner insert. Since the chimney is in the center of the house, this project could have caused a major repair problem to an interior wall. David and crew were extremely careful to minimize wall damage and were far better than most workers we have had in cleaning up the debris.

I would highly recommend 2nd Generation for Chimney repair and annual fireplace cleaning. While not inexpensive, the company service is excellent and you will receive a full report with pictures of the before and after repair. In our case one flue did not require a replacement liner and we were so advised by David with supporting pictures. I am sure that many firms would have proceeded with the second liner install and we would have none the wiser and would have had a much higher repair charge.

Dave called ahead to let me know he was on the way, and arrived on time. He removed his shoes when coming into the house. A squirrel had entered our home though a hole it had made in the patching compound where the flue enters the chimney. Dave was prepared for a potential animal removal situation, and took every precaution to make sure we were not going to have an animal getting into our house. He check several places where the squirrel could have been hiding, but it appeared the critter had check out before he showed up. Dave cleaned some debris out out of the furnace flue, and even unclogged our condensation drip tube (don't know what to call it). I had to leave in the middle of the job, and he explained what he was going to do when I was gone. When I arrived back at the house he had completed the job within the time frame he had projected. He installed a stainless steel cap on our chimney, and patched the hole the squirrel had made. When I checked out the work in our basement I was impressed, and he even cleaned up the area where the squirrel had made a mess. The price was more than fair considering the professional work that was done. Dave was very thorough, friendly, and did an excellent job all around. Wow! These are the people you want to work on your chimney. We heard some noises a week later, and I called Dave back to see if he needed to come back out. He explained it was likely the squirrel trying to get back in, and the sound was echoing down the furnace flue. It appears that was the case. He offered to stop by, and check it out to make sure. I explained I was satisfied with that answer, and would just check on it once in a while. So far no other problems.

The crew arrived at the scheduled time, performed the work and suggested that we have a camera inspection of the flew. Upon inspection multiple tile joints were noted to have cracked mortar and in some cases missing mortar. I was shown the mortar defects at the time of inspection and pictures were taken and emailed to us.
The crew was very professional and we would recommend this firm and will be using this firm to repair the chimney.

David provided excellent service....quickly and left no mess....he pointed out and suggested a future repair for our cap....and also suggested a maintenance item that we could do ourselves with the wood furnace.  We set up an annual service program, and I will do routine service with him.

Using wood heat is great, and having someone look out for your safety is key.

2nd Generation is going to be my 'go to' company to keep us safe!

Thanks

This company is wonderful!  After dealing with a plugged chimney for days, which meant we couldn't turn the heat on or the water heater-the backdraft kept blowing out the pilot light-I found this company.  Lisa, who answered the phone, was friendly, helpful and polite and said she would do what she could to get someone over here.  She also gave me the cost.  They were able to work us in and came and took care of the problems.  The men who did the work were professional and clearly explained the trouble and were able to fix it quickly.  One cap needed to be replaced.  The other one was rusted, but not through, and he made it clear that i did not have to replace it now but they could if I would like them to.
I highly recommend 2nd Generation and will absolutely use them again!!

Went very well. I was afraid that the size and shape of my chimney wouldn't allow a new damper, but it was really needed to control energy loss. David arrived on time and despite the additional work, was finished within two hours. I've lived in this house for 25 years and have used this company regularly and am always pleased with the service.
