He was very pushy gaave me a very high quote, He kept texting me ot called meevery day to see if I was going to go with him dispite me telling him I was waiting for other quotes. He blasted Angies list company He was too agressive, way too high in cost (To offset your cost) I didi not give him the buisiness as he didi not listen to me.

+ 0 morePurchased the electrical service via Angie's "Big Deal" as I had a ceiling fixture that I needed installed and I didn't like the look of the wiring in my 1930's south Minneapolis house. Sparky's stopped by almost immediately after calling and he gave everything he had to get this crazy fixture installed - I can't imagine how I would have struggled with it. This was far from an easy install not due to the wiring but because of the nature of the fixture and the difficulties of the mounting bracket. Every effort was made to get this thing put up in a way that was functional and attractive and I was eventually pleased with the results. The reason I'm writing this review was for the honest effort for something that was at first blush a cinch. Sparky's worked to make sure that I was happy with the results and this was all for a mere $100 Angie's deal. If Sparky's is on the job you'll benefit from an electrician who takes pride in his work and in doing right by his customers.

+ 0 moreTim responded quickly to my email to schedule service. From the moment of his arrival, Tim was efficient and focused on getting the job done. He checked in regularly while he was performing the work. He discovered that a light fixture that was not working was actually related to a loose wire, and was able to fix the problem. Overall, excellent service at very reasonable rates. Would definitely recommend and would hire him again.
Description of Work: Tim installed a new light fixture, replaced a standard outlet with a GFR outlet, and fixed another light fixture that was not working.

+ -1 moreI called Tim several weeks ahead of time to let him know that I was on vacation on May 29th and requested that the job be performed any time that day, but only on that day. He agreed. I called at 9AM on the 29th, and a nice woman answered and said Tim would call me back within 1/2 an hour. She called back an hour later to see if he had called (he hadn't) and she said she had left 3 messages but would call him again. He called in about an hour and apologized for having forgotten to write down my appointment. I requested that he still come; he said he was supposed to help his father in law in the afternoon, but after a long pause, he agreed to come. When he got here, he looked around the basement and said the job was doable. After about 1/2 hour, he asked me to help him, as he had to fish the new wire through the upstairs switch box, and he was having a hard time. He kept drilling holes in the basement ceiling where he thought the wire could come through, but it took both of us at least 15-20 minutes as I pushed the wire as far as it would go and he kept trying to locate the sound it made so he could drill a hole and retrieve it. He eventually finished the job, and did check with me before putting the new switch plate in a little different place than we had agreed on. He showed me the switch worked and apologized that he had taken a small chunk out of the wall that wasn't covered by the switch plate, which incidentally was crooked. He completed the job in exactly the two hour timeframe of the Big Deal. In some ways I was more disappointed with Angie's List than I was with Tim. Based on subscribers' feedback even before my work was done, it was clear that he was not prepared for this type of program. While Tim likely has some electrical experience, it was clear to me after 5 minutes with him that my usual Angie's List expectations were beyond his range. I hope this isn't a trend....
Description of Work: My bottom of the steps basement light only turns off at the top of the stairs. I wanted a switch added at the bottom.

He tried to charge me for drive time (which he claimed was 30 minutes; in reality it's about 10 minutes). He said that I asked too many questions and that if I didn't trust him, I should just get a refund for my Big Deal and work with someone else. He was just obnoxious and rude and was a horrible conversation. I could not recommend him to anybody!
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for $99 for 2 hours of electrical work. I wanted to have a couple of lights put up under my cabinet. His response was that that job would take a day and a half. I'm no electrician, but there are other outlets right there, and I didn't think that it would be as difficult as he claimed.

Description of Work: The price I spent includes my original Angie's List "groupon" price of about $99 for 2 hours of work, plus an additional $75 in parts.Tim called me to set up the appointment - he must have gotten my name off the coupon I purchased. Anyway, I had 2 electrical projects that I wanted completed. 1) add an additional electric plug-in in our garage, and 2) add an additional plug-in onto our kitchen island. These 2 projects took about exactly 2 hours. Tim called the night before to confirm our appointment and arrived punctually. He told me he was just starting out with his own business, just an FYI. The garage project was completed first and efficiently. The garage walls had no drywall so it was a pretty quick and easy job. The kitchen island project was more complicated. We discussed placement of the outlet and came up with a good location. Then I stepped aside until he was done. The outlet works, is placed correctly, and does the job, so overall I am happy. However, I didn't notice until Tim left that while he was cutting a hole in the island for the outlet, he accidentally made a 1-inch cut underneath the outlet, which extends underneath the outlet cover and is noticeable. Tim didn't mention this to me and I didn't notice it until he left. I can probably repair it with wood putty, but this doesn't seem quite right. Just a heads up - Tim commented to me that he charges for his travel time if you are located more than 15-20 minutes away, so don't forget to factor that into your budget if you live far away. Another heads up, he only accepted credit card and not check, so make sure you have a credit card handy. That being said, I think his price of $80 the first hour is a pretty good price. Tim didn't clean up the sawdust and wood chunks before he left, which I thought was kind of unusual but again, not that big a deal. At $80/hour, I guess I'd rather clean up the mess myself. He also had some unflattering comments about some of his customers which I was uncomfortable hearing about. All in all I would hire him again for most jobs. He did show up when he said, did the work, and his price was good. PS - I think maybe the Angie's List deal should have said "2 hours of electrical service minus travel time" to clarify things, so that probably wasn't all Tim's responsibility.

Description of Work: I bought the "2 hours of electrical labor" deal and then found out, when trying to schedule an appointment, that the 30 to 40 minutes Tim estimated that it would take to drive each way to my house would be subtracted from the two hours. While charging something for drive time may or may not be a practice in the industry, the "contract" with Angie's List specifies two hours of skilled electrical labor, and paying someone $65 or more just to drive to my house isn't what I purchased.

+ -1 moreComplaint: I called in the middle of April to schedule the appointment for a Saturday in May. I wanted a ceiling fan installed but also wanted to get the price on rewiring a bathroom outlet. I told him when I scheduled that I needed a quote in advance. I called two weeks in advance of the appointment and again requested a quote. No quote was ever provided. When he came on Saturday, I had many questions that should have been answered in advance. Because of timing (he was 3 hours late) and the lack of a quote, I opted not to rewire the bathroom outlet. Sparky's was 3 hours late. The appointment was at 9:00. I called and left a voice mail at 9:30 -- no response. I called and was able to reach him at 10:30. He was on another job and would come in approximately 1 hour. I had reserved 9:00 - 2:30 for the work to be done. Because he was so late, I asked my sister to come to the house. He arrived close to noon and left at approximately 5:00. My sister (bless her) cleaned the mess in the living room and dining room and hauled trash to the garage -- mainly because she needed to get back to her house and didn't want him staying any longer than he already had. Garage was left a mess (from attic entry). Tim -- Buy a calendar. Showing up 3 hours late to an appointment that had been made a month in advance is not acceptable.
Description of Work: Installation of ceiling fan in Living Room. There was no light or fan in the living room so I knew Sparky's would need to go through the attic and wire. Very satisfied with the work done. I knew it would be messy but Tim did his best to minimize the dust, dirt, etc. He needed to go out for parts but did not charge me for the time he was gone. Price very reasonable.

Tim wouldn't set an appointment even though I gave him several dates in the future and would not call me back. I believe I called him atleast six times and he never once called me back. I didn't need the work done ASAP so I was more than willing to work with the guy. He just would call me back.
Description of Work: On 04-17-2012 I purchase a Hot Deal with Sparky Electric for two hours of licensed professional electrical labor that costed $99.00.

When he arrived he assessed the work that was to be done. And completed the work. He was friendly and professional and I would use his services again.

Description of Work: I purchased the promotion from Angie's List “$99 for 2 Hours of Licensed Professional Electrical Labor!” provided by Sparky Electric. I called the owner/operator several times and sent email him and finally got his response several days later because he told me he was just out of hospital and he was the only owner/operator of Sparky Electric. He did not mention 1 of the 2 hours ‘Licensed Professional Electrical Labor’ was actually for traveling time in the promotion. I explained that I just need to have a ceiling light installed to work with current switch which currently only controls the lamp on the bedroom and he said that 1 hour should be enough. We talked several times on the phone and agreed to meet on Sunday 9:30AM May 6, 2012. I waited at the house for 30 minutes and did not see him show up. When I checked my email later, I found that he sent an email to cancel the service at 8:07PM Saturday night because he did not think the next day service was ‘worthwhile’ for him. Although later Sunday afternoon he did call me back to explain the cancellation, I felt this company is ‘unstable’– changed his mind at his wish at the last minutes; and ‘not transparent’ – did not mention half of the 2 hours in the promotion was for his traveling time. After it broke we called this provider to fix it, but he insisted that the wiring wasn't set up to be able turn on the light...basically told me that it never could have worked even though it's been working for the past 35 years! He charged us $99 and never fixed it. It was a very strange experience. He was right on time and clean. I probably wouldn't use them again though.

+ 1 moreI had signed up for a deal on Angies List for 2 hours of work for $129.00. I received a call that same day from Tim and went over the things that I needed done. He asked if he could come out to look at what I needed to see if it would all be able to be accomplished within the 2 hours. He them came out and said that he should be able to get most of the items done and if not he gave me a fair price for his hourly rate. We had scheduled him to come out on Saturday morning and he arrived on time and began the work. Originally I was going to have him move the outlet to my dryer and he suggest that it would be cheaper to have him just create a longer cord for the dryer. This turned into a bigger job than we both originally thought and took most of the two hours up but it was my top priority at the time. He was also able to install the remote to the ceiling fan, install a box for the live wires in my garage and disable the fan in the bathroom until he was able to come back out again. He returned three days later and completed the bathroom and changed out the light fixture. Also while working on the dryer he had raised a concern about needing new venting for the dryer he picked up the parts that I would need for this and also recommended a plumber to complete the work. Before I came across Sparky Electric I had some work done with a different electrician who was not very professional or organized so Tim was a breath of fresh air and I highly recommend him and plan on using him again for any other electrical jobs that I might have.
Description of Work: I had my dryer cord rewired to a longer cord, some live wires in my garage caped, a remote installed to a ceiling fan, a light fixture changed out and my upstairs bathrooms light and fan were on the same switch and he was able to separate the two functions to two separate switches.

He worked quickly and was very thorough in working through the problem circuit by process of elimination. When the kitchen was done he went to the upstairs bedroom and repaired the wall socket. Then installed 2 lights (previously purchased by me) and 2 light switches. (because this is an older house ran a little longer than the 2 hours budgeted.. we were chargeed only 1/2 hour additional. He had parts in his truck that we needed for the lights and electrical outlets. He was very professional and business-like but friendly and fair.
Description of Work: Tim diagnosed and repaired a problem with the electricity in my kitchen. He also replace electrical outlets and switches and installed two light fixtures in a bedroom.
