Ross Plumbing

I called to ask him to figure out why the water pressure in my house was dropping. He came out, adjusted two faucets, and told me the water pressure elsewhere looked okay to him. I accepted that, but then the water pressure kept dropping. A couple of weeks later I asked him to come back so he could see how much lower it was, and see that it was the whole house. He spent a long time checking various faucets and valves (even though we had made it clear the problem was not with any individual faucet) and then finally said it must be the pressure from the city which was low. Since he was going to be leaving without fixing the problem again (and charging us even more this time, since he stayed longer) I asked him to measure the pressure coming into the house so that we could have a number when we explain the problem to the city. He said his pressure gauge was broken. I asked him to come back after he'd got a new pressure gauge and just read off that number, since we would need it to convince the city there was a problem. He told me that he could tell there was a problem by the rate at which a bucket filled (a process which splashed water all over my laundry room.) I asked him to please come back one more time and just give us a quick reading from a gauge. He refused, insisting that it "doesn't matter" even though I told him that it mattered to me as the customer. I called him to fix a problem with my whole house's water pressure, and he charged me hundreds of dollars for tinkering with individual faucets and refused MEASURE the houses's water pressure. In the end he gave us a discount on the second visit, but since I feel like he stayed much longer than necessary (to tell me only what I already knew) I still feel like I came out behind. If he would have just made the tiny effort to replaced his gauge and come back out to do a 5 minute measurement, I would be a much happier customer, but apparently that "doesn't matter" to him.

The plumber did a fantastic job and completely resolved the problem. It looks wonderful, and he was personable and knowledgable, too. Highly recommended!

Despite calling on a holiday weekend, Ross answered quickly - and performed the work that same day. Ross is a throwback - you can trust him, his work, and his costs. I called these guys and they took my info down and called me back within the hour to schedule the appt.  What was great is they didn't play games but gave me specific things to do to alleviate the issue until the appointment.  I really admired the honesty and straightforwardness. 

I wasn't there for the actual repair...but my wife sent me a simple text that said "best plumber ever". 

This company will be my go-to guys for any plumbing needs going forward!

He stuck to his bid and was available the same day he bid to do the work. His work was good. I greatly appreciated his availability. He is very professional.

Everything was great, and Ross did a wonderful job for a fabulous price considering that he came out on holiday weekend.  Furthermore, he was the only one to respond quickly to our call, he was really nice during the entire job, and he has four separate phone numbers at which he can be reached if necessary.

I first tried a do-it-yourself repair using parts from a big-box superstore, but the 45-year-old Moen cartridge was broken and corroded into place. I couldn't get it out, but I couldn't get it back into place either. Because it was leaking severely, and they didn't use isolation valves back in those days, we had to turn off the water to the house to stop the leaking. This was a Friday-afternoon DIY project, which in hindsight wasn't my brightest moment.
Beginning at about 7 pm on a Friday we began looking for plumbers on Angie’s List. Nearly all of the listings show normal M-F business hours, and no 24-hr emergency service. In parallel with this we used the phone book yellow pages to find plumbers that advertise 24-hr emergency service, then cross-checked them in Angie’s List. In doing this we made an interesting observation: the larger the ad, the lower the Angie’s List rating (especially for price). Even after calling several of these listings, I ended up calling and talking with an answering machine at the various companies that advertise 24-hr service.
Finally, I called Ross Plumbing at about 9 pm on a Friday night. Ross answered the call on the third ring, and together we agreed to a time during the day the following afternoon (a Saturday). He had other jobs lined-up during the day, and we were going to be gone anyway. Meanwhile, our family took a trip to the local health-club for showers that evening.
Ross said he’d call me when he’s on his way over on Saturday, and he was within a half-hour of the time that he estimated. He said he has lots of experience with Moen, and that he knew how to remove the broken cartridges. At this point I should note that one of the plumbers who I left a message for called me back and he said that if the cartridge was broken he’d have to replace the entire fixture and this could cost several hundred dollars (I thanked him and said I already found someone to do the job). Ross went right to work; he removed the broken cartridge and replaced it with a new one. He was done within an hour, with everything put back together, then he tested it to show that it works.
The service call was $49 (he came from the northern suburbs to Bloomington and doesn't charge extra on Saturday), labor was $116, and the new OEM cartridge was $24 ($189 total). He did great work, he was honest, fair, and courteous (even though I introduced myself by name, he called me “sir” throughout the visit). He doesn’t have much history on Angie’s List, and with service like this, he deserves to earn this excellent review. I would definitely recommend him!

Ross worked hard over two days to get a difficult faucet replacement done. Price was fair. Very pleased with their service.

He came within 3 hours of my phone call...it was a slow leak, so I did not expect immediate attention but I was grateful to know the cause and to have it repaired.

They were on time, diagnosed the problem quickly and fixed the problem; the faucets are working now. They were incredibly easy to do business with. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

They installed the sink and faucet without difficulty, but kept breaking the pipe leading to it so our initial job got more expensive with each passing minute. A year later had other plumbing work done and found out the new sink was not anchored as to code and piping was redone because numerous sodered joints had started to leak.

THIS IS OUR THIRD EXPERIENCE WITH ROSS PLUMBING -- EACH TIME WITH A DIFFERENT PERSON ONCE INCLUDING ROSS HIMSELF. EVERY TIME, INCLUDING THIS ONE, HAS BEEN A PLEASANT, PROFESSIONAL, REASONABLY PRICED EXPERIENCE. IF CONSUMER LOYALTY IS THEIR GOAL, THEY HAVE ACHIEVED IT. ROSS PLUMBING IS OUR PLUMBER OF CHOICE. HAD SLOW FLOOR DRAIN IN BASEMENT. CALLED ROSS PLUMBING WHO SENT OUT THEIR ''DRAIN GUY'', STEVE. CAME OUT WHEN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE -- INCLUDING CALLING BEFORE HE CAME. WAS VERY THOROUGH AND PROFESSIONAL AS WELL AS EDUCATIONAL ABOUT DRAINS AND LAUNDRY SOAPS.

ROSS LOOKED AT OUR OTHER BATHROOM FAUCET AND DRAIN AND EXPLAINED EXACTLY HOW WE COULD FIX IT AND GAVE US AN ESTIMATE IF WE WANTED HIM TO HANDLE IT. ROSS WAS VERY PLEASANT AND WE WOULD DEFINITELY USE HIM AGAIN.
