We had a wonderful experience with Randy's Electric. Sean Belknap was our electrician and he was absolutely the best. He called to let me know he would be arriving in half an hour and arrived promptly within the first 20 minutes of the appointment window. He was exceptionally tidy and courteous and took the time to explain everything he was doing. His inspection was very thorough and he was able to address all of the issues discovered in the inspection that I elected to have fixed. Randy's Electric generally charges a little more for their services than other company's, but in this case at least, the higher fee was more than worth it for Sean's excellent workmanship, which comes with a lifetime guarantee. I look forward to working with Sean if/when we ever (knock on wood) encounter electrical issues again!
Description of Work: Installed 3 GFCI outlets, capped lots of wires, installed two copper grounding rods, ran grounding wire to electric meter, trouble-shot some fixtures that were shorting out, performed a whole-house electrical inspection, repaired and replaced a broken breaker, installed a pull-chain light, tightened connections to breakers, and fixed a few loose neutrals.

The preceding weekend I had noticed trouble with my garage door-kind of like it was shorting out. The following week at night I was in my basement standing in front of my circuit breaker box and I turned on a basement light. It flickered and went out. I thought it was odd because it had a fluorescent bulb and shouldn't have burned out yet. I plugged in another light to test the circuit and the circuit breaker box started making a sizzling noise. That concerned me so I called Randy's and asked if someone could come out that night. I was concerned about a risk of fire. The technician, Dan, called back right away and said he could be there is 30 minutes, and he was! It turned out to be nothing too serious, a main breaker wire that needed tightened, but I sure slept well that night knowing that my circuit breaker box was sizzling. Plus, it did short out a wifi box, so I'm glad I caught it before it affected any other appliances. Randy's Electric technicians are always so good natured - even if you drag them away from home. It's not a requirement to have nice home repair people, but it certainly is a bonus. He only charged me for the trip charge too. I thought it was a good deal.
Description of Work: Made an emergency visit to repair a main breaker wire.

I purchased a voucher off of Angie's List to have a ceiling fan installed. I made an appointment for Tuesday, May 19th between 10-12pm. Nobody showed up or called, so I called (763) 560-5600 at 12:40pm to find out what had happened. I was told that someone was on the way and would be there shortly. I reminded the representative on the phone that I had to leave my home by 3pm for an appointment. Around 1:30pm, the electrician had NOT arrived and nobody had called to say why. I called back and rescheduled to today, May 21st from 10-12pm. Once again, nobody showed up or called. Around 12:05pm, I called (763) 560-5600 to find out what had happened this time, and was told there was a "mix up", and that the electrician should be here shortly. I asked for an ETA, so I was told she (Cindy) would check on that and call me back. Of course, she didn't call me back with an ETA, so I called again after waiting an hour. I was told again that the electrician was on his way again. I have never in my life experienced such blatant lack of respect for me as a customer or my time. I took time off of work for these jokers to do the work...and all for nothing. I cancelled the order and am requesting a refund. Randy's Electric should be embarrassed and ashamed at how I was treated. I will never do business with them again....and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Pretty pathetic way to do business.

I purchased an Angie's List deal, hoping they'd be able to fix the light fixture. He tried, but determined there was either a short in the fixture or in the canopy and that we'd have to purchase replacements. The other items on our list were, "if there's time" items. Turns out, there wasn't time. We exceeded our deal amount by more than two times. Ultimately, that's not the reason I wouldn't hire Randy's again. The reason I wouldn't hire Randy's again is because they included religious propaganda in the materials they left at the end of the appointment. Not appropriate.
Description of Work: Tried to fix one of our dining room pendant lights, but couldn't. Removed an ancient alarm system box that wasn't actually hardwired in, removed a broken outlet.

The provider was 30 minutes late. The individual was professional and looked at the electrical items I asked to replace. The provider added several items to the estimate. The work requested was to replace 4 gfci outlets. The estimate was extremely high, $940. If I were to do this myself the materials would be about $40 and it would take me about 1 hour.

It went poorly. The quote was obscenely expensive and so we did not use the service. We were still charged a fee to come out but after a number of phone calls with the provider they did refund the money which was good. They were unable to explain their unreasonable costs and the technician basically made something up (according to someone else at the company) when I challenged the cost (more than twice what other providers and electrical inspectors estimated) other than they have alot of overhead. Most frustratingly is that I purchased a $200 credit which is unwise until you actually get a quote from the provider as once you purchase a credit for services they know they "have you" since you've already spent money and so they have an incentive to come in very high.
Description of Work: Provider came out and gave a quote for two outlets to be installed.

I will say that returning to Angies list this is actually the second time used Randy's Electric and it dosent look like my old review is listed and if it was ethical I would a double post all (A) review for their prior service. Which is when I wanted a ceiling fan and found one I actually wanted and matched the wood color of my home I looked up Randy's Electric up to install; and they happened to have a "$90 Ceiling Fan Install" coupon but from the prior experience I would have called to schedule someone to come out just on customer loyalty to good service they already had from me. The installer Jeremy found part missing and gave me detailed instructions how to replace it from the store I got it from and when I got the part scheduling at Randy's Electric got me in as soon as they could. On they day they were running late and adjusted again to me to already readjusting so I would not be further inconvenienced. All in all there are companies on Angie's list that are my forever default go to for specific things and for electric, Randy's Electric has kept me completely 100% satisfied even when there was problem.

.. I have a 104 year old house, and the outlets upstairs were the originals with one exception. I wanted an outlet that could safely handle a space heater in the winter and a small TV. I had hoped that it would be relatively simple to run a new outlet into the upstairs BR, so that the $200 from a Groupon deal would cover it; unfortunately, it was not - it required running a line through the hall closet ceiling and down to the BR because of tight clearances elsewhere. Two men arrived to do the job. Ultimately, the project became more costly than I was comfortable with, but I was having surgery shortly, and thought I would need this, so I went ahead with it. I have nothing to compare with, so I don't know if this was reasonable or not, but it seemed like a high price for the job. The work was fine, and they cleaned up well (I agreed to patch a hole in the plaster). I downgraded them on professionalism for a couple of reasons. The more senior electrician was constantly instructing, in a very loud voice, the younger one, who seemed to be unclear about how to do some basic tasks (or perhaps he was confused by all of the instructions, which implied that he didn't really know what he was doing). If he really needed that much instruction, it should have been done elsewhere, rather than at a customer's home, and if not, a quieter, more supportive supervisory style would have been preferable. Overall, the effect was grating. Second, at the end, the senior electrician gave me a card and verbally conveyed a religious message (apparently the workers for this company are drawn from a particular evangelical church), which I felt was not appropriate, even though it was delivered nicely enough. A very small note - it would have been nice for them to just patch the ceiling hole, which some companies would have done. They were nice enough, so I wish that I could place a more positive review
Description of Work: Put in new outlet in upstairs BR; switched out outlet that had failed in kitchen; misc. (new smoke alarms, as I recall).

Thank you for your feedback. We are proud to have a talent pool of journeyman that can offer technical expertise to apprentices. It is awesome to be able to watch and assist men/women to further develop their personal skills sets. I apologize if the tone of the training bothered you, we surely do not mean to be intrusive when we are in your home. That goes for the small flyer too. It is not meant to be pushy or intrusive. It is meant only as a leave behind. We have made some changes since we were in your home over a year ago, but it is always good to have a reminder.

I was having trouble with a GFI outlet tripping. The $110 big deal for $200 in credit only covered a new GFI (pretty expensive), which turned out not to be the problem. I paid more for an inspection, which uncovered that it was an old refrigerator that was causing the circuit to trip. It seemed unnecessarily expensive for what I got.

All contact from Randy's Electric was prompt, professional, and was done efficiently. I had previously purchased a different Big Deal for electrical service and was never contacted by the company as promised. I cancelled that service and was pleased when this one was offered. The cost was $396 after the Angie's List coupon applied. The deck outlet turned out to be a lot more work and cost more than I expected but needed to be done.

The service was very good. He turned things around on us. He didn't work by the hour like the coupon indicated, and all of a sudden, every job I had, he said how much they charged for it, and it didn't matter how quick they did. He was here for 2 hours and it ended up to be almost $800. I was going according to the amount of time he was. He charged by the job. I asked him to check the electricity, I said that it seemed to be fluctuating, and he just did a real quick check and said it is fine, but I keep blowing out my LED lights. I think the electricity in this unit is inconsistent, but the thing that made me mad and that caught me off guard was that I was watching at the amount of time I had, and he kept charging me by the job. He got himself up to $800 in 2 or 2 1/2 hours. Part of it is my fault and I should have told him to stop. When I had him put in a ceiling light, he said that it was $175, and I had the light and everything. He ignored the hourly time, and went according to job. It wasn't until the dust had settled, that I realized that he had nailed us on it. I would have understood if he was here for 5 hours or something, but he was here for 3 hours the most. The work was fine. He was professional. The punctuality was good.

They took down the existing lights in three places and then they had to make a space for the ceiling fan. They did a lot. I thought they were very good. They knew what they were doing and knew how to go about doing it. It turned out that I didn't like the ceiling fan that they had put in first. I had him come back and charge it. I bought a new one and they changed it. I will absolutely use him again.
