First off, I love that someone answered the phone when I called. I was able to schedule my service without having to wait for someone to call me back. At the appointment time, the employees showed up on time. They were professional, friendly, helpful and told me how much it would cost me up front. The work done was high quality and they cleaned everything up nicely before they left. They even took the old light fixtures away for me! I will definitely use Randy's for any future electrical work and will recommend them to family and friends.
Description of Work: They installed a ceiling fan, two light fixtures and replaced two outlets.

On the eve of the 4th of July, we had lost power in half our house. We had blinking lights. Randy's Electric was called and we were lined up with a electrician right away. We had the nicest phone call from such a pleasant electrician who told me not to feel bad about calling on a holiday, he was going to take care of everything. I felt reassured and my anxiety calmed down right away. We had an old circuit box, the first that came out after fuse boxes. He found and showed us the wires that came lose and burned in the box. We decided to go with a whole house surge protector and a new box. He did a great job! We were so pleased with the outcome. We will tell others about Randy's Electric.
Description of Work: He replaced our circuit box with a new box.

The communications with Randy's electric were fine overall - they answered my calls quickly and followed up to keep me informed of scheduling until the work was completed. The quality of the work was good. The electrician (Dan) was very friendly and professional. He performed his work quickly, and cleaned up the work areas when finished. I'm happy with the result of the work. My biggest issue is their pricing. All in all, he spent less than 90 minutes combined between both jobs. The quote for the first job was $290, which resulted in me paying an extra $90 on top of the $200 credit that I had pre-purchased. The quote for the second job was $238, which resulted in me paying an extra $38 on top of the $200 credit that I had pre-purchased. In the end, I essentially received 90 minutes of labor and an estimated $10 in materials for what amounted to be $528, or $345 PER HOUR for LABOR!! When I inquired about how the costs were calculated/estimated, Dan responded that most jobs are based on a fixed cost. I suggested the $238 for 30 minutes of labor (for the second job) seemed high and his response was something about the cost includes warranty for the service and parts. Questions about what their hourly labor rates (both to Dan and to their scheduler in advance) were met with vague and evasive answers. Their electricians perform the estimates on-site after assessing the work to be done (which is certainly understandable). However, I felt somewhat compelled to accept the price given that there was a $59 travel charge if no work was performed. I was essentially trapped in to completing the job with no real no-cost alternative once he was there. Less of an issue, but still an irritation, was that I scheduled an arrival window between 10am-noon. The dispatcher called me at 11:00 to indicate that he was nearly complete with his prior job and may be a few minutes late to mine. Dan called me at 12:10 to indicate that he was 35 minutes out, and ultimately arrived close to 1pm (an hour past the 2 hour arrival window). In the end, it's my opinion that they Angie's List Big Deals that I purchased from Randy's Electric were a bit of a bait and switch. It seems that there was no service that I could have had them perform that was within the scope of the $200 "deal". I had previously purchased a different Angie's List Big Deal from Sparky's Electric for "$99 for 2 hours electrical services" and he ran new wiring and installed 3 new fluorescent lights in my basement (in less than 2 hours). The way I see it, I paid the equivalent of somewhere between $50-100/hour for labor from Sparky's and $345/hour labor from Randy's Electric. It doesn't take much to see that I got taken advantage of on one of these "deals"....
Description of Work: Purchased two separate Angie's List Big Deals - one for $200 worth of electrical services for $99 and one for $200 worth of electrical services for $111. On the first visit, the provider ran an electrical wire from an existing switch box to a newly installed fan/light combo where we wanted the fan and light on separate switches. On the 2nd visit, the provider terminated pre-installed wiring between two (12 inches away).

When I first called Randy's the first available date they could give me was 8 days out but they put me on a list in case of cancellation. They called me back that afternoon and said the team could come that evening. The two guys who came were fantastic- called when they were on their way, were polite and professional and did an exceptional job getting our lights back on in no time. I just scheduled them to come out again and install new lighting fixtures throughout the house.
Description of Work: The lights on the front end of our house went out and we could not figure out why.

Randy's Electric was a pleasure to work with from the initial contact through to finishing the repair. Scheduling the work was easy and flexible. Randy's called a couple of days ahead of the appointment to check that the scheduled date & time window still worked. As promised, the worker called about 30 minutes prior to his arrival. He arrived on-time, was well informed of the problem ,and was immediately ready to start. He was comprehensive in his troubleshooting. When an outside electrical outlet was the suspected cause, he did checks on that outlet and carefully inspected it to rule it in or out as the cause. It was proved to be the cause. During the comprehensive troubling, he identified a different problem with a second outdoor electrical outlet where the GFI function was not protecting the outlet. The worker was thorough in describing the recommended fix, answering any questions that I had, and obtaining my approval before commencing with the repairs. I was happy that the troubleshooting happened to identify the second electrical outlet problem that I was not aware of. I definitely wanted that fixed too. Both outside electrical outlets were replaced with the proper kind that had good covers to prevent the potential for rain/sprinkler water. The work was nicely done and within a couple of hours. I was very satisfied with the work done and the whole process working with Randy's Electric.
Description of Work: Troubleshot an electrical problem where an indoor electrical outlet GFI tripped when a specific outdoor underground sprinkler system zone ran for a few minutes. The worker identified the cause being from one outdoor electrical outlet. During the troubleshooting process, the worker also identified a separate different problem with a second outdoor electrical outlet.

I chose not to engage this provider. I was annoyed that I had to pay a trip fee. I was not aware of this fee when I signed up for the service.
Description of Work: The provider assessed and evaluated the electrical project, which turned out to be a more extensive project. The electrical in the family room needs to be replaced to meet code requirements. Although the news was not so good for me, they were courteous, answered my questions, but the quote was outrageous! They even offered to start the project that day.....too eager.

Great - electrician was very easy to communicate with and was able to provide a solution to the remote control for another ceiling fan with light that a previous electrician from another company was unable to figure out. Provided estimates of what additional work would cost as they were discussed and before doing them.

All work was successfully completed.
Description of Work: I needed several issues addressed. The electricians (Joe & Roscoe) arrived promptly, put on booties, and did a fantastic job. They were thorough and efficient, and recommended an alternate option that would resolve one issue at a lower cost, which I really appreciated. I did not like the insert that was included with my bill: "Ask me about my faith." Although it was a brief message about how Randy found Jesus (including links to the church Randy attends), I prefer to not receive religious messages with my bills.

I bought a $99 big deal for a $200 credit toward electrical services and it went great. It ended up being far more than I expected, but I was glad of it. It worked out. I needed a lot more work than what I was thinking. They pointed out some various electrical problems so I went ahead with that and I was very pleased with the service. He wanted to look at the electrical panel and he pointed out some real problems that I would have, especially down the line. Then he gave me a number of options so I chose from that. When the inspector came out to check the work he mentioned Randy's Electric was a good company and that they were honest. He said they do good work. When he replaced the panel he said it was worse than he initially thought. It was another confirmation to me that I made the right decision to have the extra work done. They were pretty expensive. I actually had them give me an estimate on some more work and I am looking over the options.
Description of Work: The put some lights in my garage and they put in a new service box. They corrected a bunch of wiring problems. The main thing I had called them for was some under-cabinet lights.

It went good, it actually turned out to be more because I didn't read the fine print and it was like the ceiling was higher than the eight feet so I actually think I ended up paying more because of the ceiling. I did read the contract after but it was the exact pay of how much it was going to cost, I thought they did really a good job. I think they did a good enough job.

I reached out to Randy's through Angie's list and heard back from them to schedule an appointment within a few hours. Unfortunately their first available was over a week out but I asked if I could be put on the cancellation list in case an appointment opened up earlier. They called me back just a few hours later and said one of their technicians was in my neighborhood and would be happy to come do the job within the hour. When the tech arrived he explained the two options for service, one drastically more expensive than the other, and when I asked his advice he recommended we start with the lower cost option to see if it would fix what we needed. Low and behold it did the trick and they had the issue fixed in less than an hour. I would definitely use them again for any electrical issues.

Install took 45 minutes. Since we already paid for $200 worth of service we figured they could possibly do a couple more things. Once the simple job was done, they expected substantially more money. Tech showed my wife a price sheet after the fact about how they price things AFTER THE JOB WAS DONE, WOW!! What a scam. We just had our basement finished and knew how much things currently cost, but they want to charge like they are wiring the whole thing from scratch. $68 to change a switch??? 4x$68=$272!!! needless to say we will never use them again. While finishing our basement it only cost $60 to install the box, wire it and install the switch. How could they charge more than the original install that was done 2 months earlier. I could understand $30-$40 per switch, but $68 is way out of line.
