Jeremy, Joel and Mike were here working on our big project for two full days. They were always very friendly and professional, and Jeremy made a point of showing me after they completed each step of the project. He explained thoroughly what they were doing and why, and was very open with giving me alternatives and honestly telling me when something would not be worth spending extra money on. They also did a great job cleaning up, and ultimately left the place cleaner than when they arrived. I appreciated their punctuality, professionalism, candor and friendliness, and would definitely use them again for future projects. The bid from Randy’s electric was above the bids we got from other companies, but their ability to work on my timeframe, and their commitment to high quality materials and workmanship made it easy to choose to work with them.
Description of Work: Moved and replaced panel, and upgraded to 200 amp service, replaced service mast, Arc-fault and GFCI breakers, added 2 outlets, added closet lights to 2 closets, completely rewired garage (2 door opener outlets and new gfci outlet, motion flood led light and new interior led lights.)

Responsiveness: Answered my emails quickly and answered the phone very quickly to get me on the schedule Punctuality: I called and scheduled out an appointment 2 weeks in advance, when they had a pretty clear schedule. I had to take time off work to make sure I could be home for them to come, so it was worth the wait. They gave me a window from 1 to 3 PM, so I took that time off work. The day comes around and we reach the back end of my the 1-3 window and I haven't seen anyone. I get a call sometime around 2:30 letting me know that they will try to get someone out, but it will be past 3 PM. I get another call at around 3:30 letting me know that someone won't be able to make it out today because other jobs ran long. They would offer me a $25 credit to come back some other time, meaning I could take time off work again. To their credit they were flexible in sending someone out after their normal operating hours, although it shouldn't have come to that. He arrived at 5 and worked until 6 trying to troubleshoot the issue. However, the disappointing part is that I scheduled my work so far in advance, to make sure I would get a time slot that worked for me, and then I ended up being last in the queue. I also had people over for dinner while he was working, which was what I was trying to avoid. Quality: The electrician wasn't able to identify what was causing the issue. I suppose that's understandable since it could be a number of things, after basic troubleshooting failed. At the point he felt he wasn't going to figure it out, he recommended another option to troubleshoot, which would cost around $1K, but it wouldn't be done today because it was already late in the day and he didn't have someone there to assist him (since it was late in the day). So I couldn't evaluate the quality of the work being done because not much was done. I was disappointed that because it was only one person working there and it was late in the day, I don't think the electrician was not put in a place where he could resolve my issue on his visit out to my house. Professionalism: The electrician was incredibly friendly. So I think the scheduling issue was a bit unprofessional, but did appreciate the way the electrician conducted himself, knowing that he was there after his normal working hours Price: I ended up paying around $315 I think for the house call. There is a $60 destination fee, so for the ~1-1.5 hours he was there I paid $255 for labor, because there were really no parts involved. $255 an hour seems incredibly steep for an hourly rate, and if I'm going to pay it I would expect a much higher level of professionalism, punctuality and to get my electrical issues resolved while they were out there. Nothing that the electrician did appeared to be too complicated (check to see if power is going to outlets, swap a wire in the fuse box, un-attach and re-attach wiring to a few outlets and switches), so pricing seemed very out of whack for the service I actually got.
Description of Work: A portion of the house was no longer getting power. Likely due to an issue with the circuit or wiring along the way. Called out Randy's Electric to troubleshoot.

Both representatives were professional, friendly and honest about what would be involved with the work. The lead staff person was knowledgeable and direct about how invasive the possible interior lighting work would be in relation to my ceiling and walls. This was appreciated because I was already aware of what would be required. They did not try and dismiss the level of work that would be required to repair the ceiling and drywall if I had engaged their services for those jobs. I am very happy with the work they did!
Description of Work: 1. Wanted to get 3 estimates for service. Garage wiring, external home wiring and internal home ceiling lighting. Was given all 3 estimates within 10 minutes. 2. I selected to have the garage wiring done. The other estimates were emailed to me upon completion of the work that day. 3. The electrician was training a new staff member. Working together, they completed the requested work within an hour and they made a practical recommendation for a new motion detection switch. This has made accessing the lights for extended periods of time a much easier process.

Randy's Electric was prompt, professional, and responsive. They looked at the existing ceiling fan and were able to get it running again, but would not be able to warranty it because of possible hidden damage to the motor. I decided to replace it - it was at least 14 years old and about due anyway. The technicians were able to obtain a replacement fan quickly, checked to make sure the ceiling box met current code (it didn't), replaced that box, and installed the new fan. They made every effort to keep the area clean and disposed of the old fan and box. It's working beautifully!
Description of Work: Replaced a bedroom ceiling fan. Price included replacing the box in the ceiling and the cost of the replacement fan.

Bought a $99 Angies List special to remove and install a new ceiling fan. I was informed there would be a trip service charge witch I thought was total BS. Well the guys showed up and were very nice and professional and did a very good job. I was informed that the special didn't include the remote installation which I didn't realize I had until I got the fan home. Then when they removed the existing fan there was no electrical box. Appears the former owners just attached it to the ceiling without following code. OK that was fine but the $167.00 for the electrical box seemed a little high. Then there was the $59 charge to drive to my house which was about 8 miles. I got full credit for the installation but they would have charged $238 to install the ceiling fan. I had a ceiling fan in my living room replaced last year for $120. Needless to say I will not be using Randy's Electric in the future. They do great work but their prices and charges are a joke.

I purchased an Angie's List deal for $1800 for electrical service swap out and whole house surge protector with permit. Scheduling was easy and was able to be done by email which I always prefer. I find that many contractor-types are reluctant or downright refuse to communicate via email and always want to call. I work odd hours, so I always appreciate companies that will do email. Two electricians arrived on time as promised. They were professional, friendly, and courteous. They did a quick inspection of the existing 100 amp fuse box system which was probably installed in the 1950s. They then provided recommendations for the work to be done. A pet peeve and frequent issue I have run into with Angie's List "deals" is the service provider almost always wants to do work for more than the price of the "deal". This was the case for Randy's Electric as well. I guess that is probably why they do it, so they can get their foot in the door and make money above what the "deal" voucher costs, but I would much prefer to put everything out there in the open. I'd gladly pay the actual cost instead of being surprised with it. Anyway, the electrician recommended that I replace my mast (the pole that rises from the meter to the roofline to feed the lines to the power pole) and the wiring from the mast to the meter and service box. He also said that I needed grounding rods installed in the ground to meet code (my house was built in the 1880's). The cost for this was about $1700 (in addition to the $1800 I already paid for the "deal"). I bit the bullet and had him do the recommended work as I don't like to mess around with electrical issues. The electrician told me that buying the "deal" saved me about $500. They told me the job would take most of the day (they started at 8 AM). They also said the power would be off for most of the day as well. They went to work right away. They were done by about 3 PM. They went through and checked the outlets and switches in the house and re-labeled the new circuit breaker box. They also cleaned up after themselves. They showed me the finished work. I could tell that they do very neat and meticulous work. The electrician was very informative and explained everything they had done. He even did some additional small things for free to make the job more thorough. The city inspector came out about 10 days later and very quickly passed the job with no questions asked. I was warned by the electrician that the inspector in my city (Saint Paul, MN) was notorious for nit-picking these kinds of jobs. However, there were no issues at all which I think speaks to their professionalism and quality. I am happy with the work that was done. I am able to get significantly less expensive homeowners insurance now that I have a circuit breaker installed. The work will pay for itself in the insurance savings over the next couple years. There are even some homeowners insurers that will not insure homes with fuse boxes, so before this work, I was limited in my insurance choices. My house is safer and up to code now which will help with resale value as well. The only negative was the pricing. It was spelled out in the fine print of the Angie's List deal that additional work may be required, however, I did not expect to double the price of the already very expensive "deal" voucher to get the job done. I know that they don't know what is needed until they get to the house and inspect the system. But I think Randy's Electric should either raise the price of their "deal" or spell out more clearly the potential actual costs of the additional work.
Description of Work: Upgrade 100 amp fuse box to 100 amp circuit breaker with addition of whole house surge protector. Also replaced mast, installed grounding rods, and replaced wiring from mast to service box.

At his visit he discovered additional work that needed to be done, which made the price prohibitive to just put up a light so we decided not to go ahead. Electrician was informative, respectful, and professional and gave us the information we needed to make an informed choice, so we ended up just paying his visit fee which was 59$. A good experience.

This was a big deal purchase. They did the work and I find them quite pricey, but I don't have anything to compare that to because I don't have a whole lot of electricians coming out. They do good work, I have had them before. Before they start the work they give you an estimate, which is what they say they are going to do, but after you buy the big deal coupon you are committed because there is no other work for them to do. I trust them and they do good work. The first time they were here they did under-cabinet lighting.

Randy's Electric provides absolutely excellent service. My husband and I had just moved into our first new home. Some electrical issues came up during the inspection before buying the home so we really wanted to address the issues immediately. I received a fast and friendly response from Randy's Electric via Angie's List explaining the service charge and how they would come out and take a look at everything and then provide an estimate on the work to be done. If we approved they would go ahead and start the work the same day. Tom from Randy's Electric came to our home. He took the time to explain everything that he would do to provide an estimate for the work to be done. He clarified between recommendations and work that was absolutely necessary for safety. After looking into everything he went to his vehicle to create an estimate for the work to be done. After 30 minutes he provided 10 different options for us. After we decided on one he started to work right away. He needed some extra supplies and another team member from Randy's Electric came with the supplies to keep the project going. We are very impressed with Tom, the overall customer service from everyone at Randy's Electric that we spoke with, and the quality of work they provide.

I highly recommend Randy's Electric without any reservation. The service was exceptional. The price was competitive, and the value exceeded my expectations. The electricians, Jeremy and Guy, were professional and polite to me, and respectful of my home. Jeremy called on their way to give me an ETA, and they were on time. Jeremy explained in detail the specific steps they would take to assess the job, perform the work and set my expectations. Jeremy provided an exact cost estimate for the job overall, and each replacement part. Jeremy and Guy completed the work on time, at the right cost and exactly as described.

This was a $99 big deal purchase for $200 worth of electrical services. They came out and charged me for doing a single circuit analysis which ran about an hour long only for them to tell me that I needed to spend another $1,200 to fix the problem. They charged me $300 that probably couldn't have been forgone. They did not do the work; I did not end up using them.

Two electricians showed up within the two hour scheduled time period. They were very courteous and placed covers over their shoes. I took advantage of an Angie's List promotion where it looked like it would be a good deal. It wasn't. I paid Angie's List $99 for $200 worth of electrical services and I ended up paying and additional $193 for an outlet to be installed for a total of $292. The quality of the work was ok but not great. After the fact I Googled the average cost of installing an outlet and found the following: Homewyse.com says $260, however, Angie's List own site says $183 to $204. Randy's total to install an outlet that took less than an hour was $393.00 so they overcharged $163 to $210 (depending on source of average) on what was supposed to be a promotion ($101 credit). Their intent is to also find other things they can do while onsite so be careful of the up-sell. In my case they wanted to charge $200 to replace a smoke detector. They won't give estimates over the phone so I recommend that you go with a company that will at least give you an approximate cost over the phone and not insist on coming to your house first. I feel like I was taken advantage of by participating in the Angie's List promotion but certainly won't fall for that again. I would recommend looking very carefully at any perceived value of Angie's List promotions. Sorry Randy's, I know that you're just trying to get more business through Angie's List but it the long run your high prices and sales tactics won't be getting you any repeat business for those in the know. In short, I would have paid less and felt better about the transaction had I just called an electrician directly without any promotional hi jinks.

Service scheduled for Wednesday, received a call and asked if they could come Monday, which was fine with me. All phone calls to the office were helpful and professional. Definitely recommend this approach if you have a known small project and want to get perspective on your punch list. No trip charge with the coupon. Price is B if without the coupon; A with it.

I originally contacted Randy's Electric to replace the outlet on the side of the garage, thinking that moisture was getting into it and tripping the breaker, cutting off all power to the garage. The electrician seemed knowledgable and was professional. My problem isn't with the work, it's with their prices. They're OUTRAGEOUS! He ended up replacing a simple GFI outlet ($10 part) and charged me $144 - for a 5 minute job! He also did replace the outdoor outlet and charged me $238! Replacing the front light was reasonable - $92. Replacing the outdoor outlet ended up not fixing the garage power problem, so he quoted me for running a new line out to the garage (which is only 55 feet away). He wanted to charge me $2,492!!! That's ridiculous! The estimate said they were going to charge me $523 just to rent a trencher! Are you kidding me?!?!?! Also, because I used an Angie's list coupon, I was told I wouldn't be charged the trip charge. But he charged me the $59 trip charge anyway. I called the next day, and a nice lady did send me a check for the $59. Needless to say, I called around and got other quotes for running a new electric line to my garage. I had the new line run out to the garage (by Cramer Electric) this week, and it cost me a total of $880. Randy's was going to gouge me by charging $2,500! If you hire this company, beware. Based on my experience, you could end up drastically overpaying for the services you receive.
