I explained the issues I was having as soon as they arrived. Immediately I got the impression the electrician was irritated because the problems I was having seemed to be so minor to him that he didn't want to do the work. They, then, quoted a troubleshooting fee of $322.00 for wired smoke detectors not getting power. They located a wire not properly connected within 5 minutes and quickly fixed the problem. I paid $322.00 for less than 15 minutes of work. The electrician who came to my home diagnosed my garage GFCI's as the brand new fridge being plugged in as the problem. Said it was the second new fridge they encountered that day doing the same thing. He quoted me $159.00 to replace the GFCI but said that it would likely not fix the problem. I didn't have the work done. I installed a new GFCI after they left and have had no problems since. Paid $59.00 for the service call. Overpriced and seemed irritated for having to drive to my home to troubleshoot. They were, however, timely and called the day before to confirm the appointment. They also called 45 minutes prior to arriving at my home. They had a two hour appointment window which was very nice. The apprentice along that day was very nice and knowledgable.

-A rep from Randy's Electric contacted me right away to get me on the schedule; She was very friendly and helpful -I was given a notice ahead of time that Dale would be performing the job (with a picture and brief description) -He was accompanied by Josh, which was a little surprising, but both guys introduced themselves and Dale built a good rapport right away (although we were a little distraught that our dog was acting up, they were ok with our dog being a little barky and made friendly conversation of it- thank you) -A previous electrician (from a different company) had tried to perform this job in the past, but instead of creating a separate circuit for our A/C unit, the previous electrician disconnected the power from our furnace and put the A/C unit on that circuit (you can imagine our frustration once winter time came) -Dale and Josh spent a good amount of time investigating the situation and finding the solution that was best for everyone's time and money - we really appreciate it! -We haven't had any issues with the outlet thus far, and they performed the work within 1-2 hours! They also moved a little bit of furniture and cleaned up afterwards.
Description of Work: -Needed an outlet (for a 240v A/C unit) to be on a separate circuit

I used Randy's Electric for my electric service. They were here about a month ago in February of 2017. It was $300. Extremely kind, professional, and nice. It was easy to make an appointment on their website. They followed up, they came, but I had originally wanted outlets in my kitchen and they quoted around $4000. They said it was normal but they were at a guy earlier in the day and they quoted him $8000 and he was upset. I almost sent them away, but I had them replace one breaker in my outlet box for $300, which was a high price but they were so nice I gave them the business. It left me with a scared kind of feeling because $4000 was a very high price.

I use Randy's Electric. They were here March 14th of 2017. It cost $350. I would tell others that they are very professional, seemed to be very knowledgeable, they could do the work in a short period of time, they quoted each of the separate activities, their items of work, and they prioritize together. They do the work in a very professional fashion. The workers were very good.

They were great. They're awesome. The people who lived here before me had incorrectly sealed the electrical box outside so water had gotten inside. They cleaned out that area because there was some corrosion in there, and they replaced one of the breakers. I thought it was a little expensive because I don't think they were there that long, but I know electricians are expensive. I had an emergency, so I had a number of electrical outlets that were out, including in my master bedroom, and so I did pay an emergency fee to have them come out, but they came out that same day like they said they were going to. I left the keys, so they came when they were supposed to.

Went above and beyond in creativity and workmanship. Very happy with the job they did.
Description of Work: Add a third switch for an overhead light on the landing in a split level. I have asked others about doing this work and was left with the impression it could not be done. These guys treated me seriously and came up with a great plan. It required some crawling around in the rafters above the landing but they did it beautifully. And now, this light switch that I have wanted for 30 years is finally a reality.

Randy's does a great, professional job. Communication is great and electrician arrived in the timeframe promised. Prices are a bit on the high end. This is the second time Randy's has performed electrical work at our home. When you have an older home you can face unexpected expenses due to electrical code changes and compliance.

First I truly rely on reviews to make my decisions and hope thoroughness of this and info is helpful in making future decisions. I will echo other reviews on various sites (Yelp, Judy's Book, other) Randy's providing GREAT SERVICE but at potentially HIGH COST. I used a Groupon to ward off my value but I think all should be aware of this on the front end. Service-wise, this company works like a well-oiled machine: kind office staff to schedule appt, email notifications techs are coming & background on that personnel so I know who comes to the door, and then up front pricing. RICHARD SHOWED ON TIME, WAS CLEARLY COMPETENT, RESPECTFUL OF MY HOME and ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS. He changed out 2 ceiling boxes for fan-rated ones in the time he expected, being clean and leaving nothing behind to know he was there. He put the fixtures back on as I'll install fans at a later date. In the case of one box, he noted the romex looked discolored and attributed it to an overloaded circuit that wasn't tripping. My wife used a blow dryer & iron on our bedroom circuit while work was going on in the bathroom. His assessment was our wattage exceeded the 15amp breaker of 1800 watts with hair dryer alone max out at 1875. Recommended an AFCI breaker to replace the 30 y-old breaker that probably is failing. Randy's up front pricing is a blessing and a curse here. $140 for a new breaker and I think that would include the AFCI. The prudent person would replace all breakers on my 30 year old panel which I plan to do. For a full switch-out it's still about $90 per breaker, or with 26 in my box a roughly $2,300 proposal. For the benefit of Randy's I'm sure they would look to negotiate this but the up front pricing already has me leary for more service down the line without Groupon. I would like to think I would get best price from any contractor without having to negotiate or bringing awareness in an online review. For perspective that I'm not crazy- just 5 years ago I paid $2k to have a complete panel replacement at my old house from 60amp to a 100 amp one by a licensed electrician. So far I have already purchased the Square D q 15amp AFCI at HomeDepot for $37 (by the way non-AFCIs breakers are about $8 there too) and I anticipate it to take me an hour . I have no reason to believe I will do it in an hour or if I plan to do myself yet, but feel like this is less of a time commitment for a licensed electrician (and barring no resulting issues). Angie's List Members and Randy's, with all respect to the craft and seriousness of messing with a panel, it’s hard for me to reconcile the switching out breakers and Randy's proposed costs. I personally view it as they are pricing themselves out of their competition and I will certainly get other bids. I know with increased services, it all costs money - I personally wonder if that's how they need to justify my perceived higher than competitor costs (and I only say others because I have seen comments of high priced from various other review services out there). I will look to have this review edited and corrected if have misstated anything about the costs of this service IN SUMMARY FOR TWO CEILING BOXES BEING CHANGED OUT: * "A" GRADE FOR ALL CATEGORIES except Prices * "C" grade for Pricing because of implied cost w/o groupon. $350 approximate cost of service is what it would have been WITHOUT the groupon and for the 2 hours they were on site. This included the $59 site visit fee. With groupon my out of pocket was $200. The grade is associated with proposed work costs on my breaker box too. - RANDY'S KEEPS THEIR WORD OF OFFERING HIGH QUALITY, RESPECTFUL AND COMPLETE ELECTRICAL SERVICES. - THEIR ELECTRICIAN RICH IS A TRUE PROFESSIONAL and represents Randy's in a great light. Randy's should be proud to have such an electrician on their team. Up front he was clear on the pricing, site visit fee inclusion, and what approach he was taking with the job. He was kind and answered questions for me and even performed a brief review of my breaker box. Most of all, the ceiling boxes were replaced and I didn't know he was even in my house when he left. That is one of my biggest peeves when contractors don't treat homes like their own. - BE PREPARED TO UNDERSTAND THAT RANDY'S CHARGES A $59 SITE VISIT FEE. Don't be surprised. Like others, you finally have an electrician in your house to fix something so one may not feel like having them leave and get the work done. However this site visit fee will be on top of the actual services they provide. This is different then I've personally experienced with other contractors of any trade where site visit fees are waived if you do business with them. Not the case as my resulting bill included it. I'm not sure if they would charge me if I declined their service at that point and saw their pricing....but the groupon was purchased and I wasn't "not" going to use them at that point. You should ask about site visit fees to any contractor you may engage with. - USE A GROUPON. I paid $75 for $225 of services (savings of $150). My value was good by doing so but really hard to justify future work if I didnt, especially after seeing all the other “high cost” reviews. Without it, I think the cost would have left a bad taste in my mouth from a value standpoint. I personally wish all contractors give best and final price the first time, negotiating sucks and doubtful I will engage with Randy's for future work specific to these breakers. LIKE ANY CONTRACTOR, GET MULTIPLE BIDS, ASK ABOUT SITE FEES, SEEK REVIEWS and MAKE YOUR JUDGEMENT ACCORDINGLY.
Description of Work: 2 Ceiling boxes exchanged out for ones that are "fan-rated." Original ceiling fixtures were replaced back as I will install fans at a later date.

I had an appointment at 9am. I called around 9:20am to ask if they were having difficulty finding us. The woman said she was sorry but they should not have booked an appointment with me for 9am because they are always in meetings until 9:30am. She said Mike would be on his way from Brooklyn Park. Around 10am Mike, the estimator, called me to say they would not be coming because they do not do commercial work. I was incredulous and frustrated and told him that when I booked the appointment that they knew it was a commercial project. After hanging up with estimator I called back to ask to speak to someone in management. I spoke with the customer service manager (I think his name is Bob). He told me that Mike had called him and said because we are in the Hennepin County Government Center that "we are in over our heads and it's too big of a project". I let him know we are not in that building and have nothing to do with the Government Center. I asked Bob if that is how they typically operate. Drive by (the wrong address) and decide if they want the job or not? He said 'no'. I stated that that is exactly what happened; they had an appointment with me that they failed to keep and after being very defensive he finally said he was sorry. I hung up and called the estimator Mike back and let him know that we were not in the Hennepin County Government Center. He said, "I know you're not. I know right where you are. I was sitting outside your business at 9:30am (what??? you told your boss that we were in the Government Center AND did not call me until 10am) and decided we didn't want the job. I have 7 other estimates to get to today."
