The company installing my garage door opener informed me that I needed an electrical box installed before they could install the door opener. Dave came out on the day I requested and installed the box with no problems. They are very prompt and do good work. This is the second time I have used them and would highly recommend them.

I purchased Angie's List Big Deal for $125 to troubleshoot/fix 1 electrical issue. I called on a Friday, a real person answered on the first call, and I was able to schedule service right away on Monday. The technician (Brent) was on-time, called to let me know he would arrive in ~30 min (which I like), and was extremely friendly, polite, professional, and thorough in his work. Brent also answered my questions expertly and clearly. Brent quickly identified and fixed the issue related to my non-functioning wall outlet. He obviously did a very good job diagnosing the problem, and fixing it in an efficient manner. While he was at my house, I also asked him about an issue I was having with my ceiling fan. He quoted me the price up-front, and then started work right away on the fan. He even waited for a few minutes while I ran out to Home Depot to get the replacement part that was needed. All things considered, a very professional & competent experience with Randy's Electric. I will certainly keep them in mind for future electrical work.
Description of Work: $125 Angie's List Big Deal for 1 electrical issue --> troubleshooting and fix for wall outlet that was not working, found missing connection in next electrical box, fixed problem $156 for rewiring of ceiling fan --> rewired ceiling fan that was not functional, replaced fan speed pull chain that had broken off, rewired fan to no longer run off of remote control (which had broken), fixed problems so that fan was running as desired

The work was done fine. There was a lot of talking and not very much work was getting done. He was here less than 45 minutes. I thought this price was extremely high for the work being done.
Description of Work: They charged $203.75 to replace 2 batteries in electric smoke detectors then also 2 batteries in regular smoke detectors. He said that $49 was for a service call. There was also a fuel charge $7.75.

Response from Randy's Electric
The customer was not exactly accurate. The electrician also had the expertise to figure out what was wrong with the smoke detectors and did not replace them, which would have cost more. We also got there right away when her detectors were making noise and not pleasant to live with. The electrician stopped on the way and got more smokes and batteries so he would have the right parts. We always charge $49- to get to your home, then give you an up-front price, which she agreed to before he got started. Sometime we get done later and sometimes sooner but you always know the price for the repair before we get started. Thank you.

The technician and journey man arrived later than the appointment, but I was okay, because I had the day off. The original person had some personal problem. Once they fixed all the problems, I was happy because now our house is pretty much up to the code, if and when we decide to sell it.

Overall the experience was positive, they were polite and nice and did quality work. The only issue, although minor, was that they asked me if I was a [religious] believer and let me know they were praying for me. Although nice ;), it was a bit surprising to hear and I could have done without it. They do quality work, so I don't know why they would risk weirding out their customers with the religion talk.
Description of Work: We pre-purchased an Angie's List deal to troubleshoot and resolve 1 electrical issue for $125. They were able to figure out the problem we were having with the problem light fixture and switch and subsequently fixed it. While there, they offered us a free whole home electrical inspection. I took them up on their offer and they found a few minor issues which they offered to resolve then and there. We did proceed with a few of those and others we either figured we could do ourselves or wait until some other time because the cost was quickly adding up. They also moved a kitchen light fixture for us, which was done well and looks great.

Basically, I would never use Randy's again, nor would I recommend to my friends and family to use them, be it a big or small job. I felt that Randy and his technicians were condescending and rude to me. They did not do a good job of diagnosing the issue, explaining the whole process and all of the options. Do I feel like an idiot for the whole issue being a burned out bulb? Yep! However, I wish that once the technician figured out it just needed a new bulb, that he would have had the common sense to say, "That's okay, we'll just charge you for a service call, you don't have to pay us $250, since it wasn't what we thought it was." I also wish that Randy would have had the decency to do that when I had complained. I would have been fine paying for a service call, but I just don't think it was ethical to charge so much for 20 minutes and a burned out bulb. Randy will probably write a rebuttal saying that he had resolved the issue with me when he sent me the check for $50. I'm sure he will also say that I signed a contract agreeing to the services. The bottom line is that I disagree with how he operates his business. I feel he takes advantage of people who do not understand how electrical systems work. I also believe that he overcharges for his services.
Description of Work: I contacted Randy's to fix a light that was not working in our kitchen. I had visited the website the night before, and got a call right away the next morning. Randy was able to send someone out the same day. When the technician (and his apprentice) arrived, they looked at the light. After a few minutes, they pulled out a laminated list of prices and they gave me an estimate of $250 to fix the light. They had me sign a contract. I honestly did not feel that they did a very good job of explaining the process and all of the options. After about 20 minutes of using their tools and testing, the technician determined that the actual issue was that it was a burned out lightbulb. (Yes, I did try several bulbs before I called them!) He put in a new bulb and then said, that will be $255. So, even though he was incorrect about his original diagnosis, and the issue was very simple, he still charged me $255. I did contact Randy later about how I was unhappy with being charged so much money for something so simple. He responded by saying that his technicians have to go through a lot of testing and are rarely wrong. He also said that for jobs that take up a lot of time, they don't make as much, so they have to make up for it on jobs that are simple. Randy sent me a check for $50, even though I had asked for $200.

When they found issues they explained them clearly and made suggestions. They did not over sell what needed to be done. They were able to explain issues and solutions at varying levels of difficulty and cost as well as what would meet code obligations.
Description of Work: This company did a great job of inspecting everything systematically room by room. We pointed out issues and they looked into those too. They were fast, courteous, informative and professional. I would use them in a minute.

Overall everything went very well and the person doing the work was very professional. He took great care in protecting the carpeting and everything else in each room and even tolerated my 10 month old German Shepherd. Reading some of the other "bad" comments listed I have to say that I can't believe they actually used the same company I did, I would give Randy's an A++++++ and will use them again. I highly recommend this company.

The power company came out and told me I needed to get my power line put up within a week so I had Randy's do it and I think his prices were too high. Because of the storm all the other electric companies were busy. The quality of his work was fine but the price was exorbitant. I will not use them again in the future.

Was able to schedule ahead of time to work with other trades Was able to price entire project before work started. Was able to add projects the day of work with set pricing. Found an existing wire not terminated properly, notified me immediately and boxed it correctly Came back the next week to fix a switch that was not working properly. Left marks on walls around switches where work was done. I understood that some of the work was going to be 'major surgery'. The marks were easy to repair. Left the light on in the attic after work was done and scuttle door was sealed. (80 feet from scuttle door). The lead technician on my job was new to Randy's and probably just needs some additional experience to get up Randy's expectations. He was very responsive to my feedback. I will hire Randy's again.

They give you a 2-hour timeframe for your service call and call approximately 30 minutes before they arrive. They use booties to protect your floors from anything they might have on their work boots. The work was completed professionally and the overall price was very reasonable. I would recommend them to anyone looking for professional electrical work.
Description of Work: We took advantage of a $99 electrical inspection "deal" through Angie's List. We had them change 3 outlets from 2-prong to 3-prong. We also had them check out why a light fixture just stopped working. They performed the inspection and uncovered some electrical issues - loose lighting connections in the basement, hanging extension cords in the basement, multiple circuits going into a single circuit breaker, fluorescent light bulb in an outside porch light that turns on/off via photoelectric cell, CO detector, reversed polarity on one outlet. They completed our original request for changes (outlets and the light fixture). We scheduled a followup service call to fix the electrical issues they uncovered and they resolved them. There was no service fee for the followup service call. We feel much safer after their inspection and subsequent fixes.

My smoke alarm went off for no reason very early one morning. I called at 5:00 a.m. expecting to get an answering service, but got a live person. He was cordial considering I called him at 5:00 a.m. and explained that as detectors get old, they can go off like that. I left my information for someone to come out later in the morning. The electrician was not able to come out in the morning but called and gave me an estimated time of early afternoon because of the nature of his first call, so at least I didn't have to wait by the phone all day. He arrived early afternoon about the time I expected. He was nice, personable and efficient. He explained the codes to me . He gave me a few free tips on some potential electrical issues he saw. All-in all it was a good experience. It cost more than I expected, but I didn't have much to compare it with and considering they did it in short notice, I am happy. Piece of mind is hard to put a price on.

The new smoke alaarm/co2 detectors were installed in Dec. 2010. We kept having the battery go off and asked for a service call. The service call was set up in a very timely manner and we elected to have the alarms hard wired into the electrical system. An appointment was made and the service tech showed up before the time but waited for me to get home from work. When I received the bill, I was charged for more than I was expecting. I contacted Randy and we were able to fully resolve the matter to my satisfaction. the alarms work perfectly and I am very satisfied with the service and the prompt customer service I received which as I mentioned, resolved the matter to my complete satisfaction.
