First called and asked for an estimate. Was told they couldn't really give an estimate over the phone as they could find something that would make the estimate inaccurate. Was told somewhere between $49 - $79 a piece. A couple days later Mark showed up ahead of schedule and took out a rate card which stated $78 a piece to install the lights, plus $49 for the service call, plus $7.75 for fuel surcharge. I was then informed they would charge $20 a piece to take down the old ones. Mark then started the add on process. How old are your smoke detectors? Do you have a carbon monoxide detector by your bedrooms? Once we got through that process with a no to any additional work Mark and another person with him got down to the actual work I wanted done. Less then one hour later and $456 lighter in the wallet he was done. The price to do this work was over the top. My agreement on the price was my fault. I had changed one light out by myself and that took to long for me to deal with the rest of them. In the future I will always ask about all the additional costs. This will be my lesson learned and hopefully others that read this will ask up front as well and will be aware of the add on process Randy's will do when they come for the work you actually want them there for. 07/22/12 Update: After working with Randy's Electric they agreed that the price paid was to much and have refunded me the $20 per light to take down and the $49 service call. I admire them for following Angie's List and responding to customer issues when they see them. I updated my price rating from F to C but will keep my overall rating at C because of the experience itself.
Description of Work: Took down 4 exterior lights on front and back of house and put up 4 new ones purchased by me. No extra work was done besides basic take down and put up of lights.

Many friends with electrical savvy said I was very overcharged. Dave walked in and immediately told me I had an old smoke detector in my hallway. Then told me my condenser needed to be cleaned. All this before he even looked at the job I had for him to complete. I really felt he was trying to sell more before even assessing the actual work to be done. He showed me the "chart" for pricing and randomly told me my work was at the top of the price list without really explaining why he assessed my work to be a "9" on the chart. I really feel he treated me as if I didn't have a brain in my head and he could charge me anything because I didn't know any better. The work was completed and was done well as far as I know but then again I all I know is that the outlet works.
Description of Work: I needed an outlet for my new stove. Had to pull out old wiring and run new wiring to panel. Finally he needed to install an outlet for my stove.

Joe was actually a couple hours early, witch worked out perfect for me. He came in, sized up the problem and fixed it in no time flat. He also noticed a safety issue in the basement where a couple transformers in a dangerous location. So a gave me a good price on installing a new outlet and took care of it in about 15 minutes. Very professional and I like that they are a faith based company.
Description of Work: Got outlet to work with the switch that it was hooked up to, installed new outlet in basement.

Randy's id a great job immediately addressing my displeasure at how the first trip to our house went, and I'm very pleased with its professionalism and customer service. We bought an Angie's List Big Deal for one electrical problem troubleshooting and repair -- in this case, some fried wires in a ceiling fan. Our concern was that the first visit to our house correctly disagnosed the problem and the necessary repair (replace the ceiling fan), the Randy's electician left before we could instruct our teenage son to quickly go purchase the one piece needed to complete the replacement (a longer downrod). We complained and Randy's stepped right up and sent somebody else back out to complete the repair. So although I was initially disappointed, Randy's stepped up and did the right thing without needing me to prod or push. I'll use Randy's again!

We received an "Angie's Big Deal" email offer. The offer was $99 for the troubleshooting and repair of one electrical issue from Randy's. Value - up to $255.75 . Time to address this issue - up to two hours. One of the examples given was dead outlets. We had two outlets on the same line die a few months ago. We had another electrician out from a company we had used before (before we joined Angie's List) and we spent a serious chunk of time and money trying to resolve. That previous electrician was not able to figure it out, so we lived with the dead outlets. We thought "what the heck!", let's give this a shot, as we would love to have those outlets working again. The scheduler did not really know about the BIG DEAL when we called, but she took all the info down and scheduled the appointment a few days out at 2:00 pm. Brent (the electrician) called right before 2:00 to let us know he was on his way and should be here in a few minutes. He listened carefully to the problem, and started working on it right away. He was very professional and personable. We have a house over 100 years old, and he was asking questions trying to understand all the work that had been done in the house and when. He was very knowledgeable, and tried to explain how he knew where the problem might be. He searched and searched, and finally found the right junction box in the attic. Total time searching and narrowing down the problem - about 80 minutes. Time to fix the issue - about 5 minutes (and that includes the amount of time to run to the basement, turn off the electricity to the house, run back to the attic and resolve the issue, then run back to the basement and restore power, and then clean up his tools). We really like Brent. He was knowledgeable, personable, professional, and explained how he knew what he knew so that we could assist him in troubleshooting it in our old house. Would certainly use them again.

I used a special Angie's List price coupon for this service. They made it easy and quick to explain the problem and schedule. He called before their arrival, explained their service and quickly figured out the problem, even with our 105 yr. old house. The switch and outlets were right next to the sink and were did not meet safety standards. He offered to correct it with a GFI outlet for only $48 additional. I was happy to have the problem solved so quickly, plus a new clean switch plate, switch and outlets and an overall safe receptacle. They gave me a lifetime work guarantee on it, too.

I got a Big Deal coupon for repair to a plug in my kitchen and dining room. Randy's serviceman called ahead and asked if he could arrive early! (nice, both the call ahead and early) The repair was done very quickly and and his workman and I talked about other electrical issues we might want to address. He noted that our older home had other plugs in the kitchen that were code when done years ago but no longer code, and so we agreed he could go ahead. He was very professional, sharing the cost of the extra services prior to beginning work on them. We were pleased with the results.
Description of Work: We called about an electric plug that intermittently didn't work which also affected a light switch. This was repaired. In addition the serviceman redid two other plugs that were needed a ground fault protector (GFI) in order to meet code.

The electrician arrived as scheduled & reviewed what I needed. He provided an estimate & after approval, began work. He seemed overly concerned with the # of smoke detectors and CO2 monitors I had. He called after he left. He said there was a missed call from me on his cell. I was puzzled adn then he said it was a courtesy follow-up call.

I have used Randy Smith's Electric before. Brent has always been the electrician that I have requested. He is very professional, Knowledgeable and able to overcome any problems that might come up. In our situation, in removing the old fan, we found that it had been installed improperly with no box in which to attach it. There were just wires coming through a small hole in the ceiling. Brent cut a hole in the ceiling in which to install the box, so the new fan could be properly secured. He did an excellent job. The fan works great.

Joe was very professional and courteous. He got the job done quickly and neatly. He went over with me how to use the switch and gave me the manual to the light fixture, company brochures, and coupon booklets. I would recommend them and would use them again.
Description of Work: I used their Angie's list deal: https://my.angieslist.com/thebigdeal/default.aspx?itemid=pQ7SQiGuau4%3d&source=15&cid=TBD20120427&RefID=EML:998 $99 for a motion sensing security light Including labor and materials. When Joe, the technician arrived he suggested including a switch for the light for manual control for an additional $99. I agreed to his suggestion.

Appointment was for 2:00.I got a call saying they would be at my home at noon. I called back to let them know I would not be home at noon. They said fine. We'll see you at 2:00, When I got home at 1:15,they were in my driveway.I had purchased Angie's big deal coupon for this . Was disappointed to learn they would charge me $78 to assemble the new fixture. Last time I had a fixture installed using a similar coupon I was not charged for basic assembly that took 5 minutes. They tried to sell me 5 smoke detectors but were not terribly pushy about it. The fixture installation was done properly as far as I can tell. However I originally planned to have it installed lower and they talked me into making it shorter. After being around it for a day I think it should be lower.. But, I did sign off on placement. They were pleasant and neat. They made sure to tell me they were a Christian based business and liked to pray for the people whose homes they were in.They asked if I was a Christian and I told them I was not. Before they left, they asked if I would like them to pray for me.I found this very offensive and inappropriate for a business relationship.

I bought 2 of the "big deal" certificates for my parents, who wanted to have a couple of celing fans installed. They were able to get on the schedule the day after they called to make the appointment, and the work was done well and in a courteous friendly manner. While he was there, they asked him to take care of a couple of other small tasks that they had on their "to do list" and in the process, he identified a problem in the grounding of some wiring in the bathroom, which he was able to rectify. We were very pleased with the service overall. Have worked with them before, and would definitely have them back again.

Overall the job was done well and quickly. I was very pleased with the responsiveness of Randy's Electric. There was some confusion on the appointment time. The technician showed up earlier than the appointment time that we were given over the phone. The office sent over a different technician at the time we had agreed on initially. The job still got done on schedule. Joe was the technician who did the job. He was great to work with and got the job done. There were a couple of complicating factors in the installation due to the fact of the vaulted ceiling height and the switch had to be changed at the wall to accommodate the new fan. Both of those factors cost extra. There was some discussion before the job got started as to how much the total job would cost and Joe did not have his price sheet so that added to the confusion in that discussion. This work was initiated under an Angie's list deal. The deal was done through the office, but the initial bid on site did not reflect that. We were able to agree on a reasonable price and taking into account that this was initiated under an Angie's list deal. I had previously called to get information directly from Randy about how much it would cost extra because of the vaulted ceiling, but he could not give me any specific information until the technician viewed that job. That left things up to the discretion of the technician on the job. It would have helped things go smoother if the office/Randy had communicated better how they wanted to handle variances to the basic job. At the end of they day I was happy with the installation and the final bill was fair.

I would first like to comment, that Randy and I had an initial agreement to reduce my invoice by $98. I was unwilling to agree to the stipulation that I make no negative remarks on Angies List as a condition for the reduction in price. I hired Randy's to connect the electrical panel in my garage to code. The electrical Inspector noticed a problem, and contacted Randy's Electric to have them fix the problem. There were two subsequent trips to fix the problem. During the initial trip, the Journeyman mentioned that he was not familiar with the requirement for a particular clip required to make the work be to code. The Electrician called Graybar and talked to their parts person. After he ordered the proper part, he seemed more knowledgeable about the problem the inspector found. The part was ordered, the electrician returned several days later and installed the part. The original work was for $742.75 on 9/6/2011. The inspector originally passed the inspection for the work completed. I wired in some circuits on another permit. When that inspection was performed, The inspector discovered the problem described above. As stated above, the inspector contacted Randy's Electric to have the problem corrected so the original work would pass inspection. The second return trip was on 2/10/2012. The additional charge is $198. The additional work would not have been required had the original work been properly performed. Randy of Randy's Electric and I are at an impass. I believe the work should have been completed under the terms of the original agreement. Randy believes I should pay for the work required fix a mistake that should not have been made.
Description of Work: Randy's Electric was hired to connect an electrical panel in my garage to the panel in my house. I dug the holes trench and privided most of the matrials. Randy's was hired to make sure the new panel in my garage was installed to comply with state and local electrical codes.
