David called to say he was on the way for our appointment and would be arriving shortly. When he arrived I explained to him the projects we were interested in. He asked me some questions to be sure we both understood what we wanted. He then gave me a quote for the work and after I said OK he got started. During his inspection of our house, he made several recommendations (e.g. replacing our old smoke alarms and installing a power surge protection) which I agreed to. David was very professional and I rated everything excellent except for a C (Fair) on price. The cost was more than I anticipated, even with the Angie's List Big Deal. David had to work off a fixed price list and had I had known what their rates were I would have shopped around more. Also, there was a $55 service call charge that we were not aware.
Description of Work: We purchased a $69 Angie's List Big Deal for $200 of electrical services, because we needed to install some grounded outlets as well as some other minor electrical work.

They did well overall. But I will say the guy who was in charge kept talking about his having a journeyman's practice while his apprentice did most of the work. We found that a bit disconcerting.
Description of Work: We had Randy's come in response to a lighting/electrical problem we were having. They found that one and while they were here we had them do some work in the basement: new outlet for washer, house grounding, etc.

The two guys arrived at 8:30 and left at 3:30, they took 2 breaks, which I have no problem with, not sure about a lunch break but I hope so, I didn't watch them constantly. If they were in my house working for 6 hours that would be generous. I think $300 an hour for two electricians is highway robbery. Material was included in the price but some wire, one outlet, one dimmer switch, two junction boxes and some surface molding (wiring was not buried in the walls it was surface mounted) seems steep. I was told the price in advance so I can't say I didn't know what it was getting into and the reason I did go forward with it was I had spent a few days making decisions on fixtures and the fan and getting these light fixtures together then planning my work schedule around this day of electrical work. I was in no position/mood to waste the day that was already planned and start over looking for another electrician so I bit the bullet and just said go ahead and do it. I have no one to blame for that buy myself I guess and I would have probably just written it off as a bad decision on my part later and let it go, but at the very end of this experience I was handed a little leaflet about Randy's Christian beliefs and was told the company was a Christian based company, had I known this before I would have looked for another Electrician. I just felt dirty... like I had paid the Jehovah Witnesses to preach to me or given money to some other evangelical Christians... money that will go in the collection plate of some right wing church I am sure. It's none of my business what anyone does with their money, but it is my business when you are in my home.
Description of Work: A light fixture in the entry way was replaced, a light fixture in the dining room was removed and a track light was installed, A ceiling fan on the porch was removed and a light and another ceiling fan was installed, an extra outlet was added on the porch.

Joe called to say he was on the way for our appointment and would be arriving shortly. When he arrived I explained to him the two projects we were interested in. He asked me a some questions to be sure we both understood what we wanted. He then gave me a quote for the work and after I said OK he got started. He started with installing the outside outlet which went quickly and smooth. Then he started on the cable project and ran into a problem with the ceiling construction in that level of our house. We then had to discuss what our options were to route the cable and decided that the best option was to run a completely different route. He then proceeded to get on with the work which went smooth to the finish.
Description of Work: Added an outside outlet to front of house. Added a dual computer cable from lower level family room to office on far side of same floor.

The service man was professional and courteous. He laid a plastic runner on the carpet from the back door of our walk out basement over to the electrical panel so he wouldn't soil our carpet. The installation took several hours during which we had to shut off all the electrical power to the house. The installation went well and as far as I can tell all the circuits work. I rated everything good to excellent except for a C (Fair) on quality. The reason for this is that the new panel is narrower than the old one and therefor left a gap of about 4 inches on one side to the conduit chute above the panel (where it previously fit perfectly). This gap was left open and provides a place where mice could come down the conduit chute from the attic. I will have to figure out a way to cover the gap. Also, some of the individual 120 volt circuits were "bridged" like a 240 volt circuit so if one of them blows it will also take down the other circuit with it. I do not know why they did that but it should be easy for me to fix simply by removing those bridges.
Description of Work: The service man arrived on time and replaced our old 100 amp Bulldog Pushmatic breaker panel with a new smaller Eaton 100 amp panel with the same number of circuits. He also installed a surge protector which is supposed to protect all the circuits from electrical surges. The service man told me they had to install a new drier cord and outlet because our drier (which was right next to the panel) was hard wired directly into the panel and would not meet code. This cost an extra $146.

Dave and Fisel (sp?) from Randy's came and worked the job that took approximately 1.5 days and did a PHENOMENAL job! They were professional, knowledgeable, hard and fast working - yet they still took the time to explain things to me. I passed Minneapolis Electrical inspection with flying colors - and the inspector even complimented Randy's Electric, saying that they do excellent work. As others who have reviewed Randy's have indicated, the company does have a Christian mission and they share a small "tract" that professes this mission and closed my transaction with a prayer for good functioning of my electrical and a happy home. I note this only so that someone who might be offended or strongly opposed to such a mission be aware - I thought it was sweet.
Description of Work: I had purchased the electrical panel switchout and entire house surge protector on an Angie's Deal for each side of my duplex. I knew that I had additional upgrading that would need to be done because the duplex was old and operating on fuses. They changed both boxes over to circuit breakers, relocated both meters from basement to outdoors to allow for reading, elevated the incoming power line to be up to code and enter the duplex through the roof (involved drilling in, sealing the area, and more than I can explain here), grounded service to water meter in front of duplex and into the ground in back of duplex - most of this was "times 2" because of the separate meters/electrical systems for the duplex.

Since my breaker box was 150 amps and the coupon was for a 100 amps I was not able to get the service I purchased The tech asked why I wanted the replace my breaker box and then he explained I could just replace the two breakers and be done. He offered to perform a home inpsection and found many other issues, which he fixed. I used the purchased service towards the entire service. The tech was very helpful and was able to individually tell me how much each service cost before I agreed to let him do it.
Description of Work: 1) replaced two bad breakers in electrical box 2) added house surge protector 3) added smoke/CO2 protectors (2 wired and 3 bedroom) 4) home safety inspection 5) added GFCI outlets to all bathrooms (3) 6) added GFCI outlets with covers to outside outlets 7) repaired two outlets that did not have a grounds

He was prompt. The job was a little more complicated than expected. At one point, the garage had been resided and they resided over the wires. He had to uncover the wires, but still did an excellent job. This also is why it was a bit more than the Big Deal was originally. He knew what he was doing and made sure things were done correctly. I would certainly have him back if I needed any work again.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for $99 for a motion light to be installed on my garage. He also put caps on some loose wires in the garage so they wouldn't short out and cause a fire.

He showed up promptly and took care to protect the granite island the fan was hanging over. He took down the old fan and then assembled and installed the new one. He deposited the old fan where I asked him to. The only problem was that when he assembled the new fan with the light kit he twisted one of the parts around so that the light didn't work. The light kit had a chain that came down through the globe and because the globe was twisted it got caught. Ited when he first pulled it to check it but then wouldn't work anymore. I called the company and talked to them and during the conversation figured out what the problem was and was able to fix it.

I was frustrated after the first guy left the lights in a worse condition than when he arrived by disabling one side completely, but I worked with Cindy (she was so helpful, friendly, happy, and great person to work with) and she scheduled another gentleman "Joe" (Who was also awesome to work with). He quickly identified the broken wire and next thing you know we were testing the lights from both locations with complete success!!!! Thank you to Randy who offered to come out himself, to Cindy for getting someone out so quickly and being so nice to me, and Joe for his will to get it working properly, promptly, and professionally. Thank you to Randy's for your help getting me back up and running so quickly.
Description of Work: I had a two 2 pole light switches that wouldn't work after replacing the switches. The first gentleman that came out could not figure it out and had to leave with him saying that it would not be covered under the Angie's list deal. It was frustrating. However, I worked with Cindy on the phone and she said she would send someone else out but a $49.00 trip charge would apply. I agreed, and the next day the nicest gentleman "Joe" came out and quickly found that a wire in the switch box had broke preventing the switches from working properly. The first guy couldn't see this problem which somewhat baffles me but I was happy to just have my lights back and working. Sometimes a 2nd pair of eyes are needed but I don't feel the customer should have been responsible for the first gentleman's lack of attention to detail.

I just moved into a new home that needed some new outlets, improved wiring in utility room. The electrician was prompt and professional. Phone schedular was very helpful and informative. Dave and Fasil made phone courtsey call advising they were on the way. They arrived as scheduled. Very specific going through work to be done and explained how they would accomplish. They gave me written estimate before they started the work. They kept me informed as they were completing tasks and double checked with me on a couple of things. Dave made a great suggestion how they could combine two oddly placed gang boxes into one with two switches. They cleaned up job site when they were done. They also made a few minor repairs from previous work done by someone else so the building inspector wouldn't stop my bath remodel. They didn't charge me for those repairs which would have been a pain if building inspector made me hire them to come back to correct someone's elses work. They were both very professional and we enjoyed having them in our home. Our next project is remodeling 2nd bathroom and I'll certainly invite them back for that job. *****UPDATE*****: after the drywall went up there was a problem with one of the new installed outlet boxes sticking out to far. This was most likely caused by drywall as opposed to Randys. I called Randys to see if they had solution and David came to our house the same afternoon, made some adjustments, and it's now perfect. Even if problem is not caused by them they still want the job right and didn't charge us for the fix. Also, our city electrical inspector was complimentry to the job Randy's did and we passed inspection quickly.
Description of Work: Randys was hired to update and move electrical in existing bathroom I am remodeling. In the process they converted one over mirrior light to new service for sconces on either side of new mirror. They added additional GFI. They combined the two on/off switches (which were odddly placed) for the bathroom fan and overhead light into one box that has a duel switch and in a better location. They arranged for building permit with the city. They also made some repairs for work others had done that might be beneath code and would have caused problems with building inspector. They didn't charge me as repairs were minnor but would have caused delays with my remodel.

I used the Angie's coupon and Randy's came and verified that the wire was defective. I made an appointment for them to return and run the wire. it was a cumbersome task as it had to go through my ceiling and there was no obvious opening. Randy Electric sent two men and together they completed the task quickly and correctly. They were professional, and handled the payment transactions efficiently. The cost was reasonable for the type of service rendered. I also found the office staff to be friendly and responsive on the telephone when it became necessary for me to change the date of the appoinment.

I called Randy's Electric to simply install a new bathroom light fixture. With the suggestion of the electrician who came to our house we also fixed some non-functioning lights in our basement and installed smoke detectors (up to code) throughout our house. We ended up spending more than I anticipated, but my family is very happy that we now have lights again in our basement. I also have the peace of mind that we will be safe in the case of fire or Co2 fumes. The electrician who came to our home was very personal and down to earth. He was a great help to us.
