I needed a new outlet put into my basement family room so I could plug in an Electric Heater. Dave Meidinger came out and explaned to me in detail what he would have to do. He ran a cord from the circuit breaker located in my garage to the basement and then across the basement to the family room. He also brought my Smoke and CO detectors up to code. Dave was very professional and very nice. I would call on them again if I ever needed more work done. Thank you Dave.
Description of Work: I needed a new outlet put into my basement family room so I could plug in an Electric Heater as my basement is not heated. I called Randy's Electric after seeing their ad on Angie's List.

Dave was on time for our appointment, showed me proper identification and put on shoe coverings before he even entered my house. He thoroughly inspected the area where the fan was to be installed and gave me a written proposal. The installation went smoothly. Dave is a fast but conscientious worker. Also very neat as he put down floor protection and cleaned up very well. Dave then did an inspection of the rest of my house and we decided to have a surge protector put on my circuit breaker box. Dave explained the importance of the surge protector and it was my decision to have this installed. There was no hard sell on Dave's part and I greatly appreciate the fact that he wasn't pressuring me to have this done. If I need electrical work done in the future I certainly will have them back.
Description of Work: Dave, from Randy's Electric, installed a ceiling fan with light attachment and remote in a bedroom. He also installed a surge protector on my circuit box.

Electrician arrived when expected. Services were performed as expected. Price seemed high, but I was under a time crunch to get the work done before the Thanksgiving holiday and did not have time to price shop. The electrician did make sure to check if I had any of the Angie's list coupons that may have applied to his services. Electrician pointed out some safety issues with previous wiring. He corrected the issues. Electrician made sure to inspect smoke alarms and install new where needed, even though that wasn't the reason for the call. I appreciated his concern. Electrician made sure to check with me before making any changes to the original agreed upon plan for the work. Clean up left a bit to be desired. Previous contractors have used a shop vac to clean up when creating that much dust. Overall satisfied with the work, but disappointed with the price.
Description of Work: Moved electrical outlet for stove, installed new outlets in kitchen for microwave range hood, refrigerator, and countertop. Replaced broken outlet in basement. Replaced smoke detectors.

They showed up on time, were professional, and took the time to get the job done right. We had tried ourselves to fix the problem (our porch lights were not coming on), but it was a somewhat complex wiring issue that we would not have found ourselves; they were able to diagnose and fix the problem. We had a coupon from them and so it was, for the most part, a pre-set cost, so I appreciated they took the time to do things correctly even though they were not being paid hourly.
Description of Work: Fixed porch lights and wiring that was causing the issue. Also installed new smoke/monoxide detector.

The electrician was on time and pleasant. He told me the outdoor fixture couldn't be fixed and needed to be replaced. He said he had one on the truck I could have for about $200 and I said ok. He then replaced the fixture and two indoor outlets, he was pleasant and efficient. He tried to get me to do something with smoke detectors and gave me an estimate I didn't ask for, but let it drop when I said I wasn't interested. When he was leaving he explained they were a Christian company and gave me a religious tract. Here is the problem - after he left I looked up the light fixture he provided and it retailed for under $30 and I was charged $239 for it. My fault for not checking right away, but an 800% markup is not acceptable business practice. I emailed the guy and he did not respond. I called the company and after several phone calls and emails over a week, I received a $150 refund check . Once they understood what had happened they were quick to provide the refund and an apology but it was a frustrating week. I give the company credit for accomodating me and making it right finally. I guess you can expect a 300% markup on things you buy from the truck, that is what it came to and I'm paying for the convenience and getting it done right on the spot. The woman I dealt with at headquarters was very professional, and the eventual price was acceptable. I gave C grades to average out my experience with the electrician and my experience with HQ. If "Dave" is your electrician from this company, I suggest having your computer up and checking on any prices that he puts forward that are not on their published price list they show you. Everything he fixed is working great.

Dave was on time. I wish he would have provided me with a better idea of the cost before he got so far along. The outdoor outlet was old and had to be brought up to code and there was a $300-$400 charge for that. He disconnected old lines and installed connected to wires to breaker. I was not totally prepared to spend $900 on electrical work. I would not have had it started had I known it would cost me that amount.
Description of Work: Replace outlet in dining room and outdoor patio outlet. He could not find live wire or connection to outlets and circuit breaker. Out door outlet had to be replaced. He looked in the attic for connection wires.

I had purchased a previous Big Deal for Randy's Electric where they had provided estimates for other work, so when I saw this, I jumped on it!! Unfortunately, they are so booked up, we couldn't schedule anything until January, so the outlet I wanted installed to make holiday lighting easier won't be ready.... :-( In any case, the woman who answered the phone was very nice and accommodating and even offered to put me on a "call-list" if something opens up, so here's hoping!! I was so impressed with Randy's Electric the first time, I am certain the service will be excellent. I only wish their regular prices were lower so I could use them WITHOUT the need of a Big Deal!

I purchased a Angie's List "Big Deal" for $200 of services for $69. The appointment was scheduled via email and they communicated a time frame of 10am-2pm where the technician would arrive. He arrived about 12:30pm. Dave was extremely professional. We went through estimating a few projects I had on my list... one was installing an attic lighting solution and the other was wiring the garage with a 240V outlet for a garage heater. The garage heater project was going to be very invasive (drilling many holes to run wiring through a finished basement) and expensive (about $1000 before repairs) so I passed on that project for now. Dave did provide an alternate, less invasive but more expensive, solution to run wiring around the exterior of the house from the box to the garage that I may explore in the future. Dave gave me an estimate of the attic lighting work based on some standard pricing that Randy's Electric works with... and began the work right away. The project took about an hour and I am very pleased with the solution. We now have a light switch at the top of the attic stairs that illuminates 3 lights throughout the attic. No more running extension cords to halogen work lights in the garage attic! The lighting solution was about $550. Before Dave left he asked how old the house was and mentioned that the smoke detectors may be reaching the point at which they should be replaced (8 years?). I assume this is a standard upsell technique that their guys use (especially to make these Angie's List coupons worth while). Our carbon monoxide detector needed to be replaced anyway... and Dave replaced all our smoke detectors (qty=7), upgrading 2 of them to combo smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. The upsell was $500 and took about another hour to complete.
Description of Work: Installed a lighting solution in the attic. Light switch and 3 lights to illuminate the entire area. Dave also up-sold us on installing all new smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.

We bought the deal "diagnose and repair one electrical issue" for $99. It was near Thanksgiving, so we scheduled for after the holiday weekend. The electrician showed up at the scheduled time, and because we had another problem we wanted him to look at, we negotiated a price for him to diagnose and fix that, too. He was very knowledgeable about home wiring systems. He used this knowledge to track down the source of the problems (which we had already done a lot of troubleshooting on, without being able to find the source of the problems) and fix them. He explained everything in detail. In addition to the work initially negotiated, he later offered to replace an outlet and a couple of switches at a stated cost, but the cost was too high for us and we decided that we would do those replacements ourselves. The only issue we had with the transaction was that when presented with the bill, we were surprised to see that there was a $49 charge for "service call" and a $7.75 "fuel surcharge." It seemed to us that when a person buys a $99 package deal that a customer would assume that would include the service call. We talked about it with him, and he was firm in insisting that it was their company's standard practice. Because we were in general satisfied with the work, despite feeling that the company's practice was somewhat deceptive, we let it slide. I did not, however, give the electrician a cash tip as would usually be my practice. I would recommend that Angie's List clarify with companies offering package deals through Angie's List that everything should be stated clearly up front, to avoid customers feeling that it was "bait and switch."
Description of Work: The electrician troubleshot two long-standing problems--lack of power to an outdoor floodlight and related outlet, and lack of power to a lighting fixture at the base of the basement steps. One of these was covered under the $99 diagnose-and-fix deal, and the other we negotiated how much I would pay for. He was able to find the problem for each, and fixed the problems completely.

The technician from Randy's Electric was not only prompt, he showed up about 15 minutes early. He was able to swap out the non-working outlets for fully functional and standard-compliant outlets complete with reset switches on them, as well as replaced a circuit breaker for the kitchen that also contributed to the problem. The new outlet and cover for the oven is snug, secure, and looks much more sound than the old one, and he had all the work complete in a little under two hours. The price was very fair for the work he did, and he explained everything to me in a concise and clear manner. I'd definitely use them again if I needed more electrical work done.

Overall, the work was great. They were on time and extremely professional. I can't remember the names of the 2 guys that made the call, but they were both great and identified themselves on arrival. I ended up spending more than I was expecting, but I did have additional work done that wasn't planned. Had I not had a coupon I would have been upwards around $800. I also don't know the average cost for such repairs. At the very least, they provided up front pricing before doing the work. They also cleaned up after they were finished. I would go with these guys again for future work and repair.

I was a little nervous that the electrician replaced the switches LIVE (i.e., he didn't shut off the power at the breaker). But he easily and quickly replaced the 3 switches in the kitchen. I was impressed that Randy's usual trip charge is $49, which is half the price of my regular electrician.

I had never used Randy's before and found them through an Angie's deal. When I called for an appointment the first thing I was asked is if I knew about the offers! My old dishwasher was hardwired. He removed that installation and installed an outlet box under the sink, making the actual installation easier both now and for the future. He discussed what he was doing in advance. As he finished he mentioned noticing that my outdoors outlet was not compliant with code and explained to me why it was not safe. There was absolutely no pressure to replace it, but I elected to go ahead; additional pricing was thoroughly explained. I was very satisfied from beginning to end!

I purchased a deal for repair of one electrical problem through Angie's List. The company scheduled the repair at a day and time convenient to me, and a serviceman arrived at the expected time, calling in advance that he was on his way. He checked the electrical connection for my motion sensor-driven outdoor light and found that the electrical connection was fine but the light itself was defective, With my consent, he replaced the defective light with one that worked well and set the settings to what I preferred (e.g., how long the light was on after being triggered by motion). The work was done promptly and the workman was courteous and professional. My only complaint is that I had to pay a fee for the service call, on top of the deal I purchased from Angie's List. The amount I paid in total was very reasonable, for services rendered, but it seemed a bit absurd for the company to offer to repair an issue for a set price and then expect the customer to pay a service fee on top of that, since the repair couldn't possibly happen without a service call. That said, I was very happy with the work done and the interaction with the technician, and I would use this company again.
