I have a lower level workshop that did not have adequate electric service fir all the power tools. I had planned for only one new circuit but received advice as to how an additional one should be installed for my basement refrigerator. Also suggested we're the addition of ceiling outlets. I appreciated the excellent advice.

The person came, was a few minutes late which was not a big deal. He then was somewhat condescending to me regarding what I wanted. He kept finding things that needed fixing- although I specifically wanted the outlets outside to work which is why I bought the service in the first place. He was there approximately for one hour and then gave me an estimate which was completely over the top.
Description of Work: I was extremely disappointed. I had a number of issues. The quotes that I received to replace 3 GFCI outlets was 200$. I hired a different electrician and it took him literally 15 minutes to do this. I felt that the purpose of the deal was to get the electrician out to your house, at which point no matter what would have to be done would be more expensive than you paid. I would never go with this electrical service again. I do not trust their judgement or their estimates.

Joe - Called - Arrived on time - Told him what I wanted - He gave estimate and then I okay'd work and he performed efficiently. I liked working with Joe. Down side, I was not told about the $4900.00 service call, and the 7.75 fuel sir charge ahead of time.

The electricians were very professional and got everything done in one service call. They did a great job and got a lot of tasks done quickly, including installing a light switch in a room that had a ceiling pull chain, replacing a ceiling light fixture and installing a new ceiling light in a closet where there wasn't a light fixture previously. We thought it would be too expensive and difficult to add the light in the closet, and only asked about it to get an idea of whether it could be done. They gave us an estimate and installed it quickly without any problems. We were impressed wth their service.

He arrived on time and was very professional, answering all my questions. I had several problem areas which is why I did this service. He addressed those and other issues. He provided a detailed quote to get the problem areas fixed as well as some enhancements I asked about. While the experience was pleasant, I wasn't ready to go forward with the additional work. I would use them again.

I purchased the "big deal" for $89.00 to diagnose and fix one electrical problem. My overhead kitchen light was not working. The electrician arrived and quicly diagnosed the problem which was the balast. He replaced the ballast (the cost of the balast was $118.00) and my light now works. Overall the service was very good and professional and a decent value. I would use this contractor again.

The appointment was taken by some sort of scheduling service. Explained I had a "deal" from Angies List. They stated that there would be a service charge. Did not quite understand because I was paying for one item to be fixed. Confirmed by email from "Randy's" that there would be no service charge with the deal. Randys arrived towards the end of a time window, but was in that window of time. Fairly quickly diagnosed that one side of the electrical was dead for the outlet. Then found out it would not be covered. Only certain items. Felt like the thresehold is very low to be included. Decided to get fixed. The $149 was sunk. Really didn't feel like there was any deal at all. Then the invoice has a service charge and fuel surcharge preprited on the invoice, so expected to pay. Luckily I had the email so the service charge was taken off, but still fuel surcharge was there.
Description of Work: Had a $149 deal from Angies List to repair one item. My outlet in the garage stopped working. I am dissaponted on the deal. Only was for a minor fix, other than that you would have to pay. I decided to get fixed and pay for. If you were to pay outright for the diagonostic, it would have been $199. You save $50, but when pay to get it fixed, they ad on a service call $49 and fuel surcharge $8. Randy's is a franchise, I was expecting to be working with someone independent. The people were professional, but could not help feeling like I was on an assembly line.

Description of Work: All they did is move an electrical box! I had a $99 Angies List coupon which I thought would be more than enough. It took them only about 30 minutes to do the work, which is a simple electrical task. Their hourly rate would be around $500/hour!!!

The communication and service were prompt and professional. More work was required than I expected because I did not fully understand the problem. The electrician effectively explained the need for a new circuit. He also suggested a whole-house surge suppressor. I had been considering one anyway, so I asked him to proceed. While installing the circuit the electrician had to cut a foot-long strip in my ceiling. He explained this ahead of time and did a fair job covering it up again, but I still had some work to do to complete it. But our electrical problem is solved, and I would certainly hire Randy's Electric again.

Technician (Brent) arrived promptly and we got started. I used the Pay $89 for $200 worth of work Big Deal. I knew I needed to get some things taken care of and knew that I would be paying more than $200. I told Brent what I wanted and he priced out apprioxmately $1,500 estimate. I went ahead with the work. Along the way, there were additional things that were done, such as extra electrical outlets in the whole upper level. I thought it would cost a couple hundred more so I was OK with that. I have no problem with Brent's work or anything. I was very happy to get all of the things done that we did and had a good time doing it. At the end of the day, he presented me with a bill for $2,600. To say the least, I got a bit queasy with that amount. But I handed over my credit card acknowledging that work had been done. After reflection, I call Randy's office and talked with Cindy about the bill. I indicated that though I understand that a business needs to make money; when buying things in bulk, usually you get a price cut the more you purchase. I said I would like to talk about getting a reduction in the total cost. I didn't feel like I had gotten $2,600 worth of work when an outlet costs a couple of bucks and I believe I paid around ~$50 per outlet. (no wiring, just removing and replacing). Then I got the call from Randy, the owner. I told him I would like a reduction in the bill. He went on about how his business model does work for him and paying for employees and how expensive Angie's List is, and I don't know what it takes to run a company, etc. I tried very hard to remain calm and professional. He relented and said he would send me a check for 10% of my bill ($260). That was the end of our conversation. I just recently received a check from him for $300. He noted that he "sharpened his pencil for me." I work with someone who is a licensed architect and a contractor he told me that I had been grossly overcharged. Though I am happy with the work, dealing with Randy made me feel slimey.

As I mentioned previously. All went very well. Going forward, I will contact Randy's Electric & Dave Meidinger for our electrical needs.
Description of Work: We took advantage of the recent BIG DEAL coupon because we wanted to change the lighting in the front of the house and were waiting for the preverbal "DEAL". In addition, we were really looking for a quality electrician, a "Go To" guy so-to-speak, for future work that may need to be completed. On December 19, 2012 an electrician arrived on time in a Branded Vehicle, clothing and an ID badge. I knew right away that Dave knew what he was talking about. He had 15 years experience and had been with the company for 5 years. I liked the experience and the longevity with the company. Dave was very professional during the project interview process. Once undertanding what i wanted, he went right to work. We had the lighting done, replaced an old hardwired Smoke Detector with one that is "Voice Warning" Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector along with a Surge Protector for the Main Breaker Box, and replaced wall socket that had been making us nervous. Daves experience showed through. He arrived approximately 9am and had everything completed by 11:30ish with no muss-no fuss. Very clean and tidy as well. Other than having visible evidence that we had work done, you would never have known he was there. (I like not having to clean up after workmen or having to fix what they broke.) In addition, after leaving the house, he was in his truck for approximately and additional 5-8 minutes before leaving. It seemed as if he was making notes on what he had done. I liked that too. It is that professional thing! In the final analysis, I believe we have found our "GO TO" electrician. We are very pleased with our initial experience with Randy's Electric and their representative Dave Meidinger.

I bought a coupon for two hours of work to put in an outside outlet. This is all I wanted done. I specifically asked the scheduler if two hours was enough time to do this. I was assured yes..I then asked do I need to provide any materials and was told no, they have it all on the truck. The technician arrived on time and then proceeded to show me some laminated sheet with his charges to do this work...it said one thing like $239 to install an outlet. I said no I wanted two hours worth of work for the coupon. We then we got into a discussion and he told me if I wasn't satisfied he would leave and I could get my coupon money back. I said Ok leave, and then he did a 180 and told me it would only be around $50 over my coupon because the outside outlet was so expensive. I said yes just do it. He installed the outlet while telling me the outlet he was using inside to access the outside had current and was dangerous. He criticized the wiring. I just had contractors install a new panel and the wiring redone summer before last. He then starting talking about needing carbon dioxide detectors and smoke alarms which I already have. It was a constant selling up and quite frankly annoying. I felt the coupon was just an entry to get me to spend more. I also feel if I was not so adamant about not paying more I could easily have been pushed into a great big service bill.

I'm disappointed that more of the details weren't spelled out in the fine print with regards to how they work their deals. Because of that I wouldn't use them again.
Description of Work: I purchased a $69 Angie's List deal that was supposed to be worth $200. What the deal didn't tell you was that they charged a $45 service charge to start with and then gave you estimates on top of that for all of the things you wanted done. I ended up paying $270 on top of the $69 to have an outlet anchored to the wall in the basement and then have an outdoor garage light taken down and a new one installed. Seems really steep to me. Who would think that would all cost over $300!

It was all pretty smoothe. He arrived on time and very quickly determined the problem. The work was done very quickly, especially considering he had to go buy the fixture.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for electrical work. My flourescent light in the laundry room was not working. Randy's came out, determined that the fixture needed to be replaced. I bought an Angie's List Big Deal ? "$99 for one electrical problem fixed." Our problem: A dead outlet in the bathroom. I purchased this deal assuming Randy's Electric would come out, fix the outlet, end of story. Did this happen? Yes and No. Yes, technically the outlet works, but it doesn't give consistent power and it acts like small power surges are going through the wires. For instance, the blow dryer powers up and down. Or if anything is plugged into the outlet when the lights are on, the lights flicker. Before the outlet died, it worked perfectly. I called and talked with them about this issue. They told me several different things that could cause the flickering? including loose wires. Again, they were suppose to fix this ? shouldn't they have tightened the wires, if that is the problem? They couldn't give me an answer over the phone, but said they'd be happy to send someone out to look at it ? for the regular cost of diagnosis. So... they wanted to charge me for diagnosing a problem they were suppose to fix. So we'll have to pay another electrician to come out and fully fix it. I felt like it was a waste of $99. On a side note, they also changed an amp for the light switch in this same bathroom and charged $150 for it. I didn't ask for that, but upon their recommendation, I agreed to the work. Does this have anything to do with the outlet problem since it's the same bathroom? I'll have to have another electrician to let me know.
