All work was done professionally and well. Everything still works well. I had no problems. It would have been helpful to know before buying the coupon how long and how much the work I wanted done would be. Perhaps having a price list posted to which the customer could refer. The electrician was very courteous, professional and did great work. All work was completed on the day of the visit. I entered a guess date as I do not remember when the work was actually done.
Description of Work: I had a light installed, a new dim switch installed, and a bathroom fan installed. He also looked at a closet light. All were done well and explained well.

The company charged us $254.75 to change a light bulb!!!!! They had a $150.00 charge to bring a 14 foot step ladder to our home. This ladder was able to fit on the rack on their truck with all the other ladders. I can not figure out why this would cost an extra $150.00 to bring along. They changed us another $48.00 to change the bulb on top of the $49.00 service call fee. It is my belief that though to are offering the "Angie's List Deal" they are adding/padding the bills to make up the amount you are supposedly saving by purchasing the deal. I would not use this company again for services or recommend them to anyone else. .
Description of Work: We purchased an Angie's List deal, paying $69.00 for $200.00 worth of service. We have a two story entrance that has a school house light that we are unable to reach to change the light bulb. The ceiling is 17 feet tall. We purchased the deal to have the bulb changed.

I signed up for an "Angie's deal". Dave came promptly at the time I was expecting him, after calling to make sure I knew he was on his way. That was important to me because I was at a rental property that I own, so I was just sitting there waiting for him with nothing else to do. He was very professional and polite. He put on shoe covers so he wouldn't track anywhere. I showed him what I wanted. He checked in the basement to make sure that I had the right kind of wiring that was needed to change the outlets to be grounded. He explained to me that he wouldn't know what the kitchen plug would need until he got into it to see what the problem was. He gave me a rough estimate of what he thought it may cost for the total job if there were no unforeseen big problems. I had already paid $69 on line for $200 of work for the "deal". Of course there always is a service charge when you have someone come to your home. It was $49, so that came off the top. We agreed on the price. He then went to work to get it done. He did it quickly. He moved things that were in the way, so he could work. Then he moved them back when he was done. Once he was done he explained what he found on the broken kitchen outlet and how he fixed it. He showed me what the bill was and how it broke down between the different work. It worked out that it was $118 for the broken plug in the kitchen and $114 for the 2 plugs to be grounded, plus the $49 service fee and a $7.75 fuel charge. The total was $288.75. I had gotten $200 worth of work for $69. So I had to pay another $88 to finish it up. So the total I had to pay for the job we $157. I was a bit surprised at how expensive it was, but I haven't had any electrical work done lately, so I don't know what the prices are. I am glad I got it done with a discount coupon. Everything works perfectly, now, so I am well pleased with the final outcome. If I have any other electrical work to have done I will call Randy's Electric to do it.
Description of Work: He repaired a plug-in in the kitchen that wasn't working properly. Also he changed two plug-ins in the living room that I wanted to have a grounded outlet instead of the old fashioned kind.

I called in early December to schedule an appointment. They were booked until January 3rd, with a slot open from 1-3 pm. I called again the morning of January 3rd and confirmed with their office. Even after confirming that morning they never showed. Someone finally called at 3:30 pm and said they could not make it and needed to reschedule. I took the afternoon off to be at the house so this was more than just an inconvenience to me. We rescheduled for January 7th from 1-3pm. I had to take another afternoon off work. Someone did show up at 1:20 pm. I showed him the issue and he went to work. He spent approximately 30 minutes in the basement looking at the wiring. It is an old house and the wiring is somewhat confusing. At that point he said he had to get going soon as he had another appointment. He said it was too big of an issue to be included in the normal "circuit repair" service. He said he did not know what the issue was so could not provide an estimate. He said normally they always provide an estimate but this would take more time to understand the issue. So instead of doing enough investigation to be able to provide an estimate (Like their coupon said they would do), he just said they would need to charge me $120 per man x 2 men to come back another time and fix it. He would not say how long he expected it to take, and said he didn't know. When I pressed him for an estimate of time, he said it would take at least a full day of work probably more. (meaning at least $1920, but even if I committed to that I wouldn't know if it woudl fix it or take more). Bottom line, they billed me $239 for "Circuit Diagnosis", but didn't provide any real diagnosis and didn't even provide a real estimate. They clearly did not deliver what they said they would. I paid $100 for this (not $239) because of the angie's list coupon, but paying even $100 and having to take 2 afternoons off of work just to have someone come to a conclusion that it doesn't work and needs more guys and time to figure it out is a joke. At minimum they should have agreed to apply the value of the coupon to future service, but they would not. Realistically they should be refunding the $100 as they did not provide either the service or an estimate, so failed completely to deliver what they said they would. In the future I would not recommend using this company, or in general any similar coupon that does not have a clear distinct deliverable in terms of service to be rendered.
Description of Work: I purchased and used an angies list coupon, which was advertised as "$99 for troubleshooting and repair of one electrical issue!" Coupon value was for up to $255.75, which was stated to cover most electical issues. I had one electrical circuit that was not working, which was what I purchased the coupon for. I also had 2 ceiling fans that needed install which I wanted to get an estimate for.

Dave came out to install a light with the Big Deal that we purchased. He was immediately courteous and professional and stood out from other contractors we've worked with. He was on time, called ahead, and explained who he was and gave me a card as I opened the door. Dave installed a light fixture and switch in the hallway where we had an old fixture with a pull-string. The amazing part is that Dave worked extra hard to make as little impact on the walls and ceiling as possible, resulting in me having to do virtually no repair work--which I really appreciate! He worked quickly and had the new switch and fixture installed in no time. Then, since he was so good, I had Dave add a new outlet in the garage where the automatic opener was running with an extension cord. He did that in no time, and fixed a broken GFI receptacle as well. Dave also checked out a bathroom light fixture install project we are interested in and provided a bid for that. Now we just have to prepare for the next project! Dave was always very kind, courteous and thoughtful, and answered all of my questions. He was clean, picked up after himself (the little mess that was there) and always explained everything to me before doing any work. I strongly recommend using Dave and Randy's Electric!

I ordered a new chandelier for my dinning room. I didn't have a regular electrician to call. I was thrilled to see an Angies list special for electrical services $69.00. I called and made an apt the same day I purchased the deal. The electrician that came out was professional & hung the fixture easily. I had additional questions that we went through. I was given a bid for those services & I decided to have the work done that day. I haven't had any problems since. I will definitely use them again!!
Description of Work: I will definitely use them again. Very professional in work provided. I had extra questions and those were answered too. I couldn't be happier with the results. The chandelier is hung to perfection. I was also having problems with a GFI switch. That was replaced and has worked perfectly ever since. If you need any electrical work done this is the company to hire!!

I was pleased with the customer services from start to finish. My call was answered on the first try, and my service was scheduled for a week later. We originally planned to have two outdoor outlets installed. Once our electrician arrived, we discovered our electrical panel was full, so this became a slightly larger job than we expected. They explained the cost and work needed and we decided to go forward. In addition, my huband asked for them to hard wire two smoke detectors in our bedrooms, and a carbon monoxide detector in the basement. We also had them help running some TV cable in the basement at the last minute. We really appreciated the electrician's flexibility as our job kept growing. The work was done quickly and we had all pricing described at each step.

We purchased the $69 for $200 deal because we had a few electrical issues. It was quite a wait before they were able to schedule our service (because so many other people had purchased the deal) but everyone was very courteous and Joe arrived at our house right on time. He took his time looking into the issues we were having and gave us detailed estimates for the work. We did experience a bit of sticker shock with the prices so decided to forgo a couple of projects in favor of our most pressing need: to have the front light fixed. Joe did a great job (we were very impressed that he even took his shoes off as he came in and out of the house), troubleshot the problem with the light and was able to get it working. Even replaced a light bulb in another fixture outside to make sure it was working. Overall it was a good experience, I felt like the prices were a bit high but I haven't shopped around and this is the first electrician we have used in the area so maybe these are just the going rates.
Description of Work: Fixed the light on our front lamp post, took a look at an issue with our fuse box.

It went quite well, I wasn't expecting the additional work and expense to be so great, but Dave and his assistant were here all day and didn't leave until after 7 p.m. This was a big job on a cold December day. At the end when we pointed out that the exterior light near the mast wasn't working, he fixed it before leaving, working by flashlight out in the snow. Like many older houses, ours had an old, obsolete panel and there had been too many handymen who had worked on it. We ended up with 28 circuits instead of about 18 overloaded ones. We have a neater looking panel and a much safer home. Some things to think about when scheduling such a service: there may be extra costs involved, your house will be without power (which means heat in winter) for several hours, and homeowner is responsible for disposing of old box and wiring.
Description of Work: Used the Angie's List coupon for the whole house surge protector and new panel. Also got new and better ground installed and a new and higher mast to bring the electrical up to code.

Once the electrician arrived, it all went well.
Description of Work: This was an Angie's List Special Deal. I paid for the service in November, got an appointment for service on 1/2/13, but was not able to get an electrician to perform the service until the afternoon of 1/3/13. When the electrician came, the service was performed quickly and he was able to give advice on other electrical issues in our home.

I purchased the $99 Angie's list big deal because our doorbell was not working. They were able to schedule us pretty quickly. They actually arrived 15-20 minutes ahead of the window of time they gave me. I had just barely made it home when they were at my door. That was a little unnerving. They showed me where the doorbell fit on their price chart. I'm not sure it was worth using the "big deal" for this since this was a fairly inexpensive fix. In addition, there was a $49 service charge and gasoline charge that I did not expect. I thought the big deal was supposed to be all inclusive. They then upsold me on the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detector. I should have asked more questions because I felt like it was not worth the extra $300 when they completed the work in about 5 minutes and gave me only about $50-$75 worth of product. Since that event, I've read through some of the other reviews on Angie's list and see that others who bought big deals were disappointed with the costs too. I'm kicking myself for not expecting the upsell and bracing myself not to be pulled in. I did call to complain. They refunded the service charge to me, even with them giving me some of my money back, that the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. I won't call them again. I'm also disillusioned with Angie's List's big deals in general.

The project went very well and fast. All aspects of the job were explained as well as a detailed cost break down. There was a detailed explanation of the code upgrade.
Description of Work: The project was to move a currently mounted (on a deck) flood light to a different location on the deck to light the back yard ( the other location was blocked large shrubs). It was necessary to upgrade wiring to current codes (the original install was 30 years old).

I bought a coupon from Angie's list that was 69 for 200 dollars worth of services. I thought it would be a good opportunity to get a few things done and get a little bit of a deal on it. As it turns out, it looks like they just jack up the prices on anyone that gets a deal or has a coupon. 370 dollars seems a little excessive to remove 2 ceiling fans and install an outside motion light. There was already an old flood light there and we provided the motion light. The guy was there about 1.5 hours so that makes it about 270 dollars an hour for labor(this includes the 49 dollars for the service call and 8 dollar charge for fuel which no one told me about). Seems excessive. I do have other work that needs to be done in the future and I won't be calling these guys to do it.

The primary reason for the work was to put the microwave on its own electrical circuit; however, this task was never accomplished due to price and also do to an inability to run a new electrical line from the circuit box to the microwave without tearing a hole in the living room wall. The services actually accomplished went well. Time spent was efficient. Serviceman was professional and easy to work with. Overall charge for simple services seemed excessive.

The electrician was nice and did quality work. The one aspect of working with this company that I am not happy with is that they charge by using a chart, with prices for each task, which in my experience makes pricing higher than it is with those who provide estimates based on individual needs after assessing the overall job. That said, I asked Cindy, when I called them, for an idea of what it might cost, in order to determine whether I even wanted to purchase the deal. She said every job was different so she could not give me a ball park figure. But then he comes with a chart, showing exactly what the charges would be. She could have done that on the phone, to at least an approximate degree. I may or may not have gone ahead with it. Cindy did waive the trip charge for me and I was given a small senior discount, both of which I do appreciate. I may or may not use this contractor again. Cost is a huge factor for me.

Dave showed up on time and went right to work. I told him what I had going on and he went right to the fuse box to check things out. He then started to look at how the house was wired and at the ceiling fan I had to keep replacing. After he check everything over he sat me down to go over what he thought needed to be done. We went over how the pricing will work and that since I had signed up for the big deal they would credit me back and charge me for the work that had to be done. Which ended up being the same amount. He also was good about telling me how bad the walls where going to be that he had to cut alot of wholes to do the re-wiring. He was very good and cleaned up best he could when he was done. Overall everything went very well
Description of Work: I had signed up for the big deal which was for a new fuse box as it turns out I did not need one but I had alot of other issues going on in my home. House wiring was not up to code and I was having major problems with blowing fuses and ceiling fans were burning out after only 6 months. I thought I better have things looked at when I was about to install my third ceiling fan. Dave was great he looked at everything I had going on in the house and told me what we needed to do to get the house up to code. So as it turns out for the same price as the "Big Deal" which was new fuse box and surge protector for the whole house he spent the whole day re-wiring the house, installed new fire alarms and the surge protector for the same price. He was very honest about what I had going on and he was very easy to work with. My house is now all up to code I have some great smoke alarms in the whole house. I feel much safer in my home now. I would use this company again if I was to have any other issues.

It went very well. Brent and Sean from Randy'sElectric initial visit was on Dec. 19th to upgrade our electrical from fuses to breakers. We asked for an upgrade from 100 to 200 amp service which was no problem for these two. But then I asked about doing the garage panel also and wanted another outlet in the bathroom(we only had one) and more lighting(we only had the vanity light) for the bathroom, no problem. Then I added the light at the top of the basement stairs and adding the ceiling fan to the living room. Brent said no problem did up a very reasonable estimate for all the upgrades and additions and over a two day period everything was done! My husband and I are flabbergasted with all the new updates and much needed additions. I can't say enough about how great Brent and Sean are. Thank You to both of you. Helene Quinn.
Description of Work: I bought the Angie's List Big Deal for electrical upgrade (we had fuses and upgraded to breakers) with Randy's Electric at an exceptional price. Once Brent and Sean from Randy's Electric were here I asked for a lot of extra add ins and upgrades to the main upgrade. Brent went through assessed everything and gave us an excellent price for all add ins and upgrades. The guys were diligent and worked nonstop both days they were here. I now have breakers vice fuses in both the garage and house and more lighting in our bathroom, another outlet in the bathroom(both wishes of mine for over 8 years), a new ceiling fan in our living room(another wish) with a wall switch, much needed lighting at the top of our basement stairs and a new carbon monoxide/smoke detector with an additional outlet for the house. Both Brent and Sean were wonderful and courteous during the whole process and never winced at my requests for another add every time they were here. I will defininately be calling Randy's Electric again! Thank You Brent and Sean!

Schedule was prompt. People were nice, he even apologized for taking our money for not fixing anything. So nice I guess. The Big Deal was for $99.00 for diagnosis and REPAIR of one electrical issue. Outlet REPAIR was listed in the ad itself as one of the possible fixes Not just diagnosis or we would have not gotten this Big Deal. I looked it up again and thought maybe I had misread this but it did include one diagnosis and repair of one outlet. You would expect it would be the wire leading to the outlet otherwise the outlet would work. I was all set for a REPAIRED WORKING OUTLET after the visit. That did not happen. If the ad had been for diagnosis of electrical problem then maybe this would fit the bill the outlet does not work, we already know the outlet does not work. We obviously have already diagnosed that it does not work. But the deal was for BOTH diagnosis and repair for the one Big Deal price. So we spent $99.00 to find out that yes our outlet does not work. He did disconnect the wires which again we could have done ourselves easily without paying $99.00. Time off of work to be here when he was here between 1 and 3 pm on the 14th if November. So it really cost more than just the $99.00. We were kind of hoping for what the ad said... to diagnose and repair one electrical problem. It was probably partly our fault for expecting the ad to be what it advertised that it would be repaired and not disconnected. I thought after the Big Deal I would actually have a REPAIRED working outlet that worked since that was pretty much stated in the deal. I do not. $99 bucks is a lot of money to me to tell me something I already know. I will not be doing any Big Deals in the future and I would strongly advise anyone else who considers these to thoroughly check with the company you are dealing with to see if the company will fix what the ad claims it will fix. I did talk to the person at the company and told them we had an outlet that did not work and I would like to have it fixed and that is what they set the appointment for. And yes, I told them it was through the Angie's List Big Deal. He did disconnect the outlet which we could have done just as easily for free. I don't count that as a repair. Repair to me would mean paying money to actually fix something so that it will work again. However, He did say he would come back at regular price later and fix the outlet for us it if we wanted a" repair" of the outlet. I will not be doing any Big Deals in the future!! Bottom line we got the deal and paid the money to get the outlet fixed and it is still dead.
Description of Work: Took time off work to meet him here Nov 14 2012 1 to 3 pm. He was not here very long. He Checked the outlet - it does not work. We know that or we would not have done the Big Deal. He did disconnet the wire. We could have done that without it costing us 99 dollars. In my mind that does not constitute REPAIR as stated in the ad fix and repair one electrical issue and electrical outlet was stated in that ad. He was very nice though. Even he apologized for taking the 99 bucks for not doing much of anything.

Estimate higher than the competitors, but had already purchased a discount voucher. It came out just a little higher. Didn't save any money. Work handled responsibly and punctually.

Randy's Electric set up a 2:30 service time with me. Normally their window is 2:00-4:00, but our work schedules kept me or my husband from being home until 2:30. The receptionist agreed to a 2:30 time spot when I made the appointment. On the day the service was scheduled, I had a call from Dave at 1:00 saying that he was on his way. I called him back and confirmed the 2:30 time. He agreed to meet my husband at the house at 2:30. When my husband got there at 2:30, there was a card saying "Sorry we missed U Dave." No services were performed and no effort was made on Randy's Electric to contact us to reschedule. I can't believe how unprofessional this company is. I really regret purchasing the "Big Deal" - what a waste of money.
Description of Work: No services were performed. We paid for the work, but they did not arrive at the agreed-upon time and did not do any work.
