Very professional. They installed a ceiling fan in our spare bedroom. They arrived on time and were very polite and capable. Unfortunately t the fan we asked them to install was a used fan that we had and it didn't work. They then removed the fan without extra charge.
Description of Work: Ceiling fan installed through an Angie's i List Big Deal. It was half the usual cost for a ceiling fan installation.

The job was done well. I do however question the professionalism of bringing religion into it at the end. When paying he wanted to witness to me and asked to pray with me; that might not go over so well with everyone.

Overall it was fine. I took advantage of the $69 promo for $200 worth of electrical services. He called ahead and was within the given window time frame. He was up front with the overall costs. I needed a door bell installed and a motion detector replaced. I ended up going with only the doorbell for now; otherwise, I would have had to pay more for the motion detector based on the estimate. Overall I am happy with their services. Randy was professional, efficient and friendly.

The person who did our service was very pleasant as was the person I spoke with on the phone to confirm my appointment. The quality of the work appears to be fine. I was surprised to learn that when you make an appointment for 11, they have until 1 to arrive. I was told that this was mentioned at the time I made the appointment. If it was, I don't remember it. She suggested the service tech could stay later if needed because they are bonded and insured. After about a 10 minute consultation, the starting time was about noon. The work was done in about an hour, well before I needed to leave. I'm new to the twin cities so I don't know if this is standard but Randy's does not charge by the hour. It's by the item. In our case moving the kitchen exhaust fan cost $357, add to that a $49 service charge, a $7.75 fuel charge and then apply the $200 coupon (which itself cost $69) for a grand total of $213.75. That's right, $213.75 was what it cost for a small uncomplicated job that took about 1 hour. At one point the technician mentioned he could easily pop in an outlet directly below the wire he was rerouting. When I asked how much he quoted me $98! I went ahead with the job was because I bought the $69 coupon, was charged a $49 service fee plus a $7.75 fuel charge. It felt like I at least needed to get something for my money and the fan really did need to be dealt with but in my opinion, it doesn't turn out to be such a great deal. I regret not having gotten more info about how they charge for their work. I would never have hired them if I knew. Lastly, I feel it's invasive to do a job and then present your unsuspecting customer with a pamphlet about your religious faith. I won't be using this company again.
Description of Work: 1. Uncomplicated relocation of a ductless kitchen exhaust fan, including fishing a wire to a spot 2 feet from it's previous location. 2. Tested an outlet.

Very well, though the timer switch appeared to be a surprise request, though I specifically described it when calling for the service visit. The installer had to head to a supply house to purchase it, which extended the visit. It was all capably done and safely installed. Thought the installation price was a little high.

Outside of the ad not being honored the way it was sold and the overall price, it was fine.
Description of Work: The technician fixed a ceiling light and replaced a bathroom switch. The ceiling light was not working. The tech found the source of the issue and fixed the light. The switch in the bathroom was replaced to toggle the light and bathroom fan separately. The tech and his work was done professionally. My chief complaint is that Angie's ad stated $200 for "electrical services". The tech stated it was for diagnostics only. So, for him to trouble shoot the ceiling light was $200. Then another $252.75 to fix it and to replace the bathroom switch. I can't say that I would never use this business again, but if I feel that the Angie's ad was a rip-off or not honored the way it was presented (I see there is another one out there now for the same business, so watch out). I hate using the term "bait and switch", but if the shoe fits.

I understand, and we are trying to make sure people understand before we book the appointment. It is not a bait and switch. We have an up-front price for each service we do in a person's home. If you buy the coupon for $200- worth of work for &69-, that is exactly what you get. Most of the time we can repair the problem inside the cost of the diagnostic, but sometimes it is a bigger problem. Every problem and every home are different. We don't work by the hour, because then the customer has no idea what it will cost to complete the project. We give an up-front price, and if it is worth it to you, we do the work. With a lifetime guarantee! Floor savers to protect your home! We always leave your home cleaner than when we arrived! Someone always answers the phone! :A: rating in Angie’s List and the BBB. Drug-free and back-ground checked licensed electricians! No matter if we are less expensive or more than others, we are ALWAYS the best value. Would you go to the cheapest doctor to try to save your baby's life? Electricity can hurt those you love, so I believe in doing it right the first time, and safety in your home,,,,where you sleep! I decided to take advantage of an Angie's List special by Randy's that offered electric panel replacement with whole house surge protector for $900. Guys showed up promptly, but the price quickly climbed to $2,400 with additonal "necessary" charges. Although the final price wasn't outrageous, it wasn't a deal, either. I felt the ad was misleading: I expected to pay less than the cost of a normal installation, not pay the same amount that I would have with other companies. However, once you have 2 electricians standing in your house, ready to go and telling you it's a great price, it's hard to ask for more time to shop around. This situation was partly my fault: I didn't get other estimates before having Randy's come to my home.

Yes sir, and you did pay less. But that is not where the value is! You have a lifetime guarantee on your breaker panel and all the work we did in your home. Every home is different, so we offer a coupon for the one thing everyone needs. Some people don't need anything more and some do, we can't control that. And some companies are cheaper than others, but cheap isn't excellent, and that is what we are! There is no other electrical company in the Twin Cities that provides the value we do. We are totally customer focused, and these are the things Angie's List customers have told us are important: -Lifetime Guarantee - Drug-free and back-ground checked - uniformed - ID badges - floor savers - the home cleaner than when we came -financing -"A" rated - answering the phone - doing it right the first time - up-front pricing so you always know the cost before before you go ahead - BBB member with an A rating, and the list goes on.... We are proud of our service and being voted "Best of Maple Grove" and "Best of Hopkins" and winning the "Talk of The Town" awards. And Angie's Super Service award for 6 years running!

with themWe had a good experience. We purchased a deal on Angie's list, $200.00 worth of electrical services for $69.00. The person who answered the phone when we called was very pleasant and helped us find a convenient time for the work to be done. The electrician called when he was on his way and arrived on time. He had shoe covers with him and used them, removing them and replacing them when he went out to his truck to get his tools. He worked quickly and was neat and careful. He answered my questions and was very knowledgeable in explaining about old light fixtures and wiring wearing out. When I spoke to the salesman who sold us the new fixtures about the cost of installation I expected the $200.00 coupon to cover the cost and was surprised at the additional $93.00 charge. Overall, we had a good experience and we were pleased with the work.

My initial call was quickly answered. Cindy was very polite and they were flexible. Scheduling was easy. I did note that they wanted to know if I had a coupon. Why? Does your pricing jump up if I do? Brent (the tech) called ahead of time. Very polite and friendly. Covered his feet coming in. He asked if his parked van was ok in it's spot. I appreciated that. Upon arrival, Brent reviewed my request to install wiring for two ceiling lights. Unfortunately, the quote was crazy overpriced. $1100 for the job. WOW. There was also a $49 service fee, which was never disclosed when I scheduled. When scheduling, I even asked about pricing and what I was thinking of. I was only told that my situation was "individual" and that the tech would have to figure out a price. I couldn't afford the work. Who would?!? They snatched up my $69 and I ended up with wasted hours of picking up lighting/waiting at home. I will be asking for my money back. Very disappointed in this entire situation. I will not be using Randy's or referring them to anyone.

The person (Cheryl?) setting up the appointment was very friendly and helpful. We did not have to wait long for a time, and were given a two hour window. When the two hour window passed without hearing from anyone, we called and learned they were running behind but someone would be there shortly. Joe Bateman was our guy. He arrived in a labeled truck and immediately introduced himself and handed over his business card. He assessed the situation and came up with a plan and started to work right away. He had to cut away some of the drywall up by the ceiling, which we will have to repair ourselves, but he was very neat and did an excellent job cleaning up/ vacuuming up the area afterward. It took about 2 1/2 hours total. He said we could save ourselves $118 if we install the fan ourselves, which we have done before where other lights have been, but we needed him to do the wiring since this area didn't previously have a ceiling light. We used the $69 for $200 Angie's list special and had to pay another $391.75, totalling about $460 for the job. The amount was exactly as quoted by Joe when he started. He was very polite and answered all our questions. It was a very good experience!
Description of Work: We wanted a light with ceiling fan installed in a living area that wasn't wired yet for a ceiling light. It was in a room on the main floor with a finished upstairs and unfinished basement. We had the electrical wiring done, but didn't actually have the ceiling/fan installed, saving us another $118. We can install the fan ourselves now that the ceiling is wired. The ceiling fan is wired to a new wall switch, which was wired to an existing light in the basement.

Joe from Randy Electric answered the scheduled appointment about 15 minutes before he arrived at 9 a.m. We asked him to replace a ceiling light and 12 light switches around the house. We had already purchased the ceiling light and the switches from hardware store. He was courteous and professional. He completed the job 2 1/2 hours later by 11:30 a.m. The bill, including the Angie's List coupon of $200, amounts to $680.75. This is equal to $272.30 per hour. I seriously wonder any other electrician would charge this much on a job so simple and the labor rate so high. I am disappointed that Angie's List coupon is used by Randy Electric as a lead to over-charge customers. I also wonder Randy, who is a religious individual, can sleep at night.

I bought this service as an Angie's Big Deal. I had to wait more than a month to schedule the call. The electricians that did the work arrived within the time period and installed the outside electrical outlet. The work was done right and I am happy. However, I am not happy about the price. I paid $69.00 for $200.00 of electrical work. I was not informed when I bought the package or when I scheduled the work that I would have to pay a service fee. I have had many contractor in my house, and I have always been told up front of a service fee. It took the electricians less than 45 minutes to install the outlet and it cost me an additional $185.75. So, if you consider I bought $200 of electrical work plus the additional $185.75 I paid - this outside outlet cost $385.75. I think this was over priced. As I said - I am happy with the work, but I don't not think I would use them again because of the cost.

Bought a Groupon for Randy's Electric & scheduled a date for them to send someone out. They gave me a two hour window. On the day of service the technician, Dave, called in advance to give me a half hour window of when he would arrive, which I greatly appreciated, and arrived on time. I wanted my smoke alarms checked as they are over 10 years old. Dave replaced 4 smoke detectors, one of which is also a CO detector. Dave was very courteous & respectful, letting me know everything he was doing & confirming what I wanted done. He used shoe covers & floor protector for under the ladder. I wanted ideas on replacing a cloud light fixture in the kitchen & he was very helpful with ideas & sending me in the direction that would be more cost-saving. I will be calling Randy's Electric after I decide on my new light fixtures.

I was sorely disappointed that they were unable to accommodate the exhaust fan installation. They servicemen that arrived were on time. They were considerate, professional, explained their pricing in detail, were upfront, honest, and when they were unable to perform the services I originally had hoped for, they did provide alternative for the use of the coupon I had purchased an did resolve an existing issue I had elsewhere in the house. What went wrong...in ADDITION to the coupon purchased, I had to pay for the "service call" an additional 60 or 60 dollars...this was NOT disclosed when I purchased the coupon, nor was it disclosed when I made the service appointment. So, I was very disappointed, to say the least, when on top of what I had already paid, I was told I had to pay more. In addition, the service I had wanted, the bath fan installation, was exceedingly simple. The switch for the fan was already wired, and the wiring to where the fan was to be located was already installed as well. The job simply required a junction box in the wiring, and finishing the wiring to the fan itself, as well as cutting a hole in the wall for the simple fan install. The fan was already purchased and waiting for them. I could not understand how they came up with the astronomical pricing they calculated for completing the install. The total price was $700-$900 for a junction box, a hole in the wall, and connecting the fan to existing wiring. Because of the winter weather, we wouldn't be able to install the venting to the exterior, however, I did explain that simple carpentry was something I could accomplish in the spring, and only wanted the wiring completed for now- since I have a healthy fear of electrical work. Overall, the professionalism, attitudes, concern, and willingness to find another task for use of the coupon was very good. Their pricing was ridiculous and neither the coupon, nor the ad for the Big Deal, nor the scheduling of the appointment ever indicated an additional fee would be charged for using the coupon...of course they'd have to come out to the house for me to use the coupon...so why wasn't the service call fee disclosed or included? I most likely won't use them again going forward, since they weren't able to adjust pricing beyond the prescribed price list they were told to use. I think there needs to be room in the pricing to accommodate all situations and some pricing should be at the discretion of the professionals who are present to actually determine the extent of the labor and materials involved in a particular job.
Description of Work: Randy's electric resolved an existing electrical issue I was experiencing that was ultimately caused by existing poor wiring. I had originally purchased the Angie's List Big Deal ($69 for $200 worth of services) in anticipation of having them install a bathroom exhaust fan. Unfortunately, the total cost of that installation far exceeded the value of the coupon I had purchased by nearly $500.

As with the first time, Dave was really great. He was on time, professional and friendly. He also left our place looking cleaner than it was prior to his arrival, which was great. The work done was excellent with no issues. What I also appreciate is the up front pricing. Both times that Dave did work at our place he walked me through how much the work would cost (prior to doing the work).
Description of Work: Final bill amounted to $151 but I had used a "$99 for $239" coupon bringing the total to about $250. Dave from Randy's did some work for us a few weeks back and we had a good experience and had him come over for some additional work. The electrical wires running through our condo were not up to code in terms of support against the walls. We had Dave install support straps to hold the metal tubing that held all of the wires. He had to drill through multiple surfaces including drywall, brick and metal. In all he installed about 15 straps.

There were two professionals that serviced our needs. The communicated clearly and asked questions making sure I understood what needed to happen to fix the issues. They did an outstanding job and would definitely have them back for future service. Thank you!
Description of Work: We had multiple projects that needed attention. These included adding dimmer switches, replacing two recessed lights, switching out two new light fixtures, fixed electrical issue with a light switch, and replaced and installed all new smoke detectors in the house.
