Dave arrived on time in spite of a snow storm that morning. I explained my various issues how some lights were working and stopped and the switches that did not appear to do anything and I wondered what they did or went to. Dave then proceeded to explain how charges were figured based on the type of repair needed. I told him my priorities for moving forward and he said he would take care of it all. I expected several hours of work since another electrician had come out previously to help with an entire circuit that was not working and he determined (incorrectly) that there was a short in a wire going between 2 non-working switches. (The other electrician was able to get my circuit working except for the one bad connection.) Dave did not encounter this issue and called me after 3 hours stating everything was working again. In fact I think he even corrected an 'add-on' to my breaker box and brought it back up to code. When I got home I was very pleased how perfect everything looked and there was no mess or dust anywhere. He used boot covers while in the house and left the boxes and info altogether in neat order. I was very pleased. Although I spent more than I had initially planned, it was worth it to have everything working and know that is was safe and up to code.
Description of Work: corrected wiring for 2 light fixtures and switches, installed three replacement light fixtures and identified 2 unknown switches and got them working properly.

I called Randy Electric and was told that next opening was not for 4 or 5 weeks, since Randy was servicing customer's from their current Angie List promotion. The electricans showed up on time on the scheduled day. I showed them the outdoor lighting project. They examined the wall and explained to me why the job could not be done as I wanted. They then suggested a difference way to do the project. I asked them for a quote on the their alternative solution. In reveiwing their quote it appeared that their hourly rate is a lot higher than other electrican I've used in the past. So, I did not have them do the work.

Dave came promptly, introduced himself and we talked about the project. He gave me estimates on each part that i had described to him and then we agreed on what parts we could afford right now.Dave worked throughout the day keeping me updated on progress and asking questions of preference where ever needed. He gave me a specific list of items, types of lights to look for and purchase, dimensions of the ceiling fan needed, etc. for the next trip. When he returned for the second day of work, he worked again all day to complete the work. Dave was patient with my ignorant questions, even when I misdirected him on how we wanted the pendent lights to look(which required assembling parts of one lighting unit and parts of another to get the desired affect). When I realized I was directing him wrong and he had to un do the light pieces he was patient and disassembled the parts again to my liking. Overall, very very fair and would definitely use again.
Description of Work: Randy's Electric ran wiring into our dining room ceiling to hang lights and a fan. Also brought our electrical outlets up to code in another room and ran all of the cords (lots and lots) through the wall so they would not be visible.

I had another Angie's List electrician replace my 200 amp electrical panel, for $1,246. June 6, 2013: 4 months later, no response yet from this provider...
Description of Work: Purchased "Big Deal" for panel swap-out and whole-home surge protector, $1091. Got bait-and-switch routine: told my 200amp panel would cost $2887, but while at our house they could at least take care of some additional needs I had, using some of the funds I had already paid. I got no written estimate (my bad), and had them hang 3 lights (which I already purchased), install 3 GFI outlets, and remove a dead wire. Amazingly, these items totaled exactly $1091; there was no discount offered, no written itemization.

I used the "big deal" to fix the installation of a light fixture my husband and I had tried to install ourselves. The service person (forgot his name!) was very polite and professional, on time, and the light works now so that's good. However, I think the only thing he did was tighten one of the connections - otherwise we had the fixture installed correctly. To me, he should have said "no charge" or charged us just a trip fee and then we could have used the deal we bought an a full installation. Of course ultimately I'm the one who called and used the deal for that issue - it's just that I thought it was more than a loose connection that was causing the problem in the light fixture. I would call them again next time I need something done in a time crunch, but probably not for general services because the price structure just seems a bit too "pre-packaged."
Description of Work: I bought a "big deal" for Randy's to install a light fixture for around $90.

Everything went as advertised. We got our outlets swapped. Only issue was that we had to pay more than the big deal covered. The person I spoke to on the phone thought the deal would cover all the work, but once the electricians were on sight it ended up costing a bit more. I am very happy with their work, but obviously disappointed that there is no guarantee between what is discussed with the scheduler and the actual electricians.

I was very pleased with the work performed.
Description of Work: I had three light fixtures to be put up and I tried to do the two small ones, but when it came to the chandelier, I did not feel comfortable trying it myself. As it turned out, I had the electrician check the two I put up and he had to fix a couple things on both of them. He put the large chandelier up and it took a few hours. Very happy to have someone else do it.

He arrived within the time window agreed. He was very professional and effective. He also gave us the option for a discount if we paid cash. He again was not pushy, just wanted us to know all our options for payment. We opted to pay the cash and got about $74 discount.
Description of Work: We had a Hot Deal coupon for $99 of diagnostic and repair. There were specific items we wanted fixed but were not sure how much they would cost. We specifically needed a light switch fixed so that it controlled outlets in the living room, and also wanted outside light on our deck fixed and a new one installed on our back patio. He also did a diagnostic review and noticed several issues that he said were not within code that we should have fixed. Specifically, our garage door opener and our water softener were both plugged in via an extension cords, he said that was not to code. He also noticed that our smoke detectors were not also carbon monoxide detectors, and that is not to code. He recommended putting in direct outlets and changing the smoke detectors. He provided an estimate of that work but was not pushy about having it done. He explained the issues and gave us the option. We decided to have him make all of the corrections he suggested. He also fixed all of the items we'd originally wanted done. So a $99 deal turned into a $1,300 visit. But we are happy with the results and feel more assured that we are to code.

I would definetly hired him again.
Description of Work: Joe arrived promptly and and was very thorough. He even spotted a problem with a live wire in the basement that was potentially dangerous and removed it. He put in 2 new outlets and moved a 3rd outlet. He also put a GFI on a 4th outlet as well as the one that he moved. Overall, I was very pleased. He cleaned the areas up nicely. My only problem was sticker shock. I haven't hired an electrician for many years and wasn't expecting the cost to be so high. .

I used an Angie's List Big Deal special for this service. We needed some additional service so we spent more than the coupon we purchased. They were totally upfront about the increased amount it would cost. The experience was fabulous; they were good. Because we needed a higher amp electrical box they originally said that the new box would be bigger. Since we have a custom wood box that matches our cabinets over the electrical box we were told we would need to have a new wooden box made for it. But while they were working on the box they figured out a way to move everything up in the wall space. This took them an extra hour at least and they did not have to increase the opening and we could use the same box. I was so impressed; they did it all on their own. After the panel was installed they had to coordinate with the electric company to replace our outside meter; they handled all that scheduling. They also scheduled an electrical inspector to come and inspect the work.

Two guys with scare tactics directed at a single mom who doesn't know much about electrical issues. Their prices are ridiculous. I didn't need to pay over $300 to have two outlets replaced.
Description of Work: Bought the "get $200 worth of services for $69" deal. Its a racket. I needed two outlets replaced and was told over the phone that they would do as much work as they could for the $200. To replace ONE outlet, they wanted to charge me $54.00 for materials (this is a .99 cent part) plus labor. Lucky for me, I had purchased some. I ended up paying $200 more for them to replace those two outlets and untrip the fuse box. Pressure tactics to buy their smoke alarms at an exhorbitant rate. The cherry on top was when they prayed "for me to get more money so I could have them back." Don't invite them to your house.

Please see my comments above - that says it all!
Description of Work: The primary reason for my utilizing Randy's Electric was to solve a problem in which every time I printed from my computer/printer, the lights in the room would blink. This type of work did not fall within the scope of work Randy could provide, but he did give me a suggestion on how to address the problem. While in the room, he noticed my smoke detector was old, so he replaced the smoke detector with a brand new one - and the price fell within the scope of my Angie's List deal. He and his coworker were very polite, courteous and friendly. I was very pleased with the experience despite his not being able to solve my primary problem - but instead, he solved another one for me.

It cost me a little bit more for the services because of the way the electrical was put in prior to when he pulled it off and told me how it was going to be. I liked the service. I wasn't prepared for the price. The service was good, he explained exactly what he was going to do and if I didn't want to go that route he told me what my options were.

Electrician came out with apprentice. Gave estimates for multiple jobs. Some estimates seemed a little steep, but that's the cost of working with a licensed electrician. Service call is $49. Fuel charge of $7.75. They do the work on the same initial visit as when estimate is completed. Polite, professional, thorough.
Description of Work: Purchased a big deal ($200 worth of electrician work for $69). Was hoping to apply this towards moving microwave onto its own circuit breaker, but estimate came in at $771 total. This seemed a little excessive, so found a different job instead. Always a bit of a gamble with the big deals since you don't have an estimate in hand. After looking at a couple possible jobs, ended up adding a new outlet to the garage. Should come in handy for extra lighting and power tools. Very professional service, would recommend.
