This is a long report, but should be read by each consumer! May 28th I had an appointment with an electrician from Randy's Electric located at 13780 Reimer Dr. N. Maple Grove, MN 55311 as per a conversation I had with their office. An electrician was to arrive between 1-3 p.m. When the appointment was made I indicated I found their number on an ad that stated Complete Ceiling Fan Installation $99.00. I told them I had two I needed installed ? one in place of a light fixture which I had removed, however all the wiring was still there ? the other was to be installed in a bedroom where there was no ceiling fixture. I understood the second would cost slightly more. Joe, the electrician arrived at 2:00 p.m. His first question was how many smoke detectors did I have, and I should replace them. He gave me an estimate of $333.00 to replace them. After about 10 minutes of conversation I declined that. He crossed this off the paperwork. Joe proceeded to give me a Estimate on the job to be done which was $1,319.00 and explained no hidden costs and that if it took him two days to complete this would be the most it could be. Since I had previously installed many ceiling fans, I have been forbidden to enter the attic due to a bad knee, I knew that there was no way it would be a big project especially for an experienced electrician. I explained this to Joe and I said it was a very simple fix for both. Joe spent 10 minutes in the attic to install a new fan box, used wiring from previous fixture and used the same switch. I had purchased the fans. Upon starting this fan on medium and high speed the fan wobbled. I explained that if he were to switch the blades this sometimes eliminates this problem and even read the directions stating that fact ? he said those instructionsare for dummies and proceeded to tell me that is as good as it gets and if I tried switching blades, I could be here all day. Onto the bedroom, Joe talked to me about taking out sheet rock, I said NO ? there is a switch on the wall for outlets and he should be able to use the wiring there. I had pictures from the inspector that showed wiring going thru the ceiling studs and there was a wall cavity between studs on the walls to install another switch. Once again Joe was in the attic for 10 minutes and did use the existing wiring however did have to add 30 feet of electrical wire and a second switch. Despite the fact that the two switches did not match, the fan did not wobble. The time now is 6:15 p.m. I asked for the bill and Joe said it is exactly what I told you$1,319. WHAT? For a total of 4 hours of labor and I still have a wobbly fan? You can't be serious. Joe said well I will waive the $49.00 service call. Now it is still $1,270.00 who earns $317.50 per hour and doesn't do a satisfactory job? At this time Joe became very angry and told me that he worked his ?a** off? for me and didn't he do right by me? I said NO and I still will have to fix the first fan. At this point I became nervous and I just wanted him out of my house, so I gave him a credit card and said I would talk to his office. I felt violated and disrespected. The next day I called Randy's Electric office and no one was available to speak to me. On the 30th, I talked with Cindy and explained my situation that the job was not done correctly, I felt I had experienced a ?Bait and Switch? and was totally scammed by their electrician who charged $1270.00 for 4 hours of work. Cindy, the office manager said she would have to talk with Joe and get his side of it and would get back to me on the 3rd of June. She did call back and offered me $100 to fix the crooked switch plate. I explained I had already corrected that and for 37 cents I re-cut the hole and put on different switch plates. After much talking and giving reviews of Randy's Electric work listed on Angie's list I gave her examples of other work completed and prices, out of 8 examples of installing comparable ceiling fans and electrical work the average cost was $347.50 not $1,270.00. Cindy's response was, well you certainly did your homework, however I can't give you more than $270.00. Randy was on vacation and she would have to talk with him. Cindy assured me that on June 11th, I would receive a call. I did receive a call back, Cindy had talked with Randy and that was all they were willing to give me. I offered an opportunity to have Randy come and see the work, I wanted to talk to him personally, however that wasn't possible. June 12th on my answering machine I received a message from Cindy stating that after much prayer and thought, she felt good about sending me a check in the amount of $500.00. I proceeded to call her back and ask if that was in addition to the $270.00 they offered the day before. Oh no, was her response, we feel good about the check for $500.00. I asked who felt good? Me ? NO, again I asked to speak to Randy and have him come out to my house. This was refused. I received a check for $500.00 stating reimbursement. Why that amount? To install two ceiling fans, I was charged $770.00 this means this service cost $192.50 per hour. In addition I still have a wobbly fan! SATISFACTION GUARANTEED ? I think NOT. I have written this experience off, however I would like to warn seniors and other potential clients BUYER BEWARE of Bait and Switch in addition to over-charging for service!
Description of Work: Installed two ceiling fans - one that had electrical wiring and switch already in - offer was to do the work for $99.00 - the other was to install a ceiling fan in a bedroom that had an access to existing wiring to tie into.

The work he did was fine and he did good work. I was disappointed in the modification in the price though. He didn’t do a couple of things, because he couldn’t get to them, but he did charge me for the things he was able to do.

The electrician was reluctant to write up a quote for the service but upon my insistence, finally did. the install for the exhaust fan and switches (all provided by me) was quoted as $900, then had the $200 deducted for the Angie's list coupon, ending with a balance of $700. After researching, found the cost for install, wiring in attic, and switches range between the $300-350 range. Not anywhere close to the $900 quoted by the electrician at the job site. I spoke to Cindy at Randy's electric who sounded surprised regarding the electrician's reluctancy to create a quote and said she would get back to me after talking to him, by week's end, two weeks ago.

We had an electrical problem and contacted Randy's last week but they were too busy. So--we called someone called Affordable Electric. However, if they can't fix the problem it isn't affordable. Affordable came out 6/18 at 6:15 pm and by 7:30 pm they had made our situation worse and we had more circuits out. I called Randy's back on morning on 6/19 and begged for help. The dispatcher took pity on us and Dave came promptly by 1 pm as stated. He is supremely confident in his extensive skills, is a 16 year journeyman and obviously knows his stuff. I don't think our problems were very challenging for him but he jumped on them and in under an hour had fixed everything the other company wanted to send out two men at $110 an hour to troubleshoot!!!! If you have electrical issues, this is the company to call. Their rates are as reasonable as other companies and at least Dave is a skilled tradesman who will solve your problems. Thanks Randys and Dave!
Description of Work: If you have electrical issues, call Randy's and ask for Dave!!!! He trouble shot circuit out, repaired circuit and ground fault, removed old ceiling fan and installed new one, replaced all light bulbs (which we are too old to do) restored my faith in humanity hahaha

Excellent! What attracted me to Randy's Electric was the reviews on Angie's list and their hours. They had evening and weekend hours and during the day is not convenient for us. The first day, Brent and Gabriel came out. The process is simple: show them all that you want. They quote you and then go about the job. You can have all your projects done, or just one. The smaller projects I thought were very reasonable in price (I had no idea how much the lighting in the kitchen would take). Scheduling a 2nd day was just a matter of Brent finding a day when it worked for both him and us (then calling the main office to make sure it worked). Brent and Gabriel were extremely friendly and put us at ease quickly (I normally hate strangers in my house). All in all, I give Randy's Electric an "A" and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Several small electrical jobs such as hanging a new light in the dining room, adding a new light over a tub in the unfinished area of the basement, and adding a switch for a fan (fan already present) in the bathroom. They came back a 2nd day for a large job we asked for: taking away our ugly bubble florescent light in the kitchen and replacing with recessed lighting.

Well, after a couple of starts and stops after our first encounter..meaning he thought we could save money if we dug the trench for the line. Fine. My dear husband got that done that night. I guess the man thought because we have white hair.. my assumption, that it would take days, if not weeks, to get that done. We had to call the office to see when the man would be coming back. The job was well done....but not without a dust up between my husband and the technician. I think the issue was not having the cost of the job explained well. We would use them again, but cost and duration of job would need to be clearly explained between both parties.

Randy's got someone out to me on the day I called- David was my electrician and was courteous, professional and worked quickly. Although they charge a fairly premium price I had no concerns about them doing the job properly- I am not a fan of the menu-system pricing- I prefer a more straight forward estimate based on a specific job but otherwise I was happy with the service.

I bought an Angie's List deal for Randy's Electric and used it against an on-going electrical problem I had in a rental building. The commercial clothes dryer would shut off. After having a handyman, commercial dryer repair and another electrician were unable to diagnose the problem, I called Randy's Electric. Fortunately, their electrician was able to determine the issue. The circuit had to be replaced to the dryer. It was far beyond the value of the deal I had purchased, but I was very happy to get the issue resolved once and for all! The electrician arrived on time, was very professional and even gave me some appliance tips. I would definately use Randy's electric again. I did not receive estimates for the job, so I am giving them a B on price - only because I don't know how they would compare with others.

I purchased the Angie's List coupon on the Monday before Thanksgiving. Since I was on vacation that week and hosting Thanksgiving dinner for 12 family members, I called that day to see if they could move the chandelier before Thanksgiving. They were booked, but I was put on a waiting list in case there was a cancellation. Sure enough, I received a call that they could come out on the day before Thanksgiving to do the job. Two electricians arrived on time and did a wonderful job getting the chandelier to it's new location. Thanks to Randy's Electric, our Thanksgiving dinner was much brighter!

It was fantastic. Extremely professional, knowledgeable, reasonable, and honest. He checked out all of our old knob and tube and let us know what we should (and mostly shouldn't) worry about. He also quoted us on a number of potential upgrades, but he told us that they were almost all optional. He was perfect. I HIGHLY recommend Randy's Electric and will only use them for electrical needs in the future.

It turned out the old shower light was also tripping a ground fault, and so when everything was completed, no more problems. Most satisfied.
Description of Work: He did $175 worth of work for the $89 coupon. This included installing an LED light in the shower and fixing an outdoor circuit that had been tripping the ground fault interrupt. The latter was an intermittent, and I was very pleased to have the problem solved.

It went well, they arrived bright and early at 8am and swapped out the fixture within 20 minutes (super fast!) we also had him quote on running a new line from our circuit breaker to the basement and they were nearly 4x the price of other quotes that we recieved. What I will say is that they did the work quickly and were very prompt and friendly. A little strange that at the end he went through the warranty and then told me that Randy is a pastor and woudl like to "show us the light" and left some religious materials.

Our service man was Joe. He put on booties each time he came into the house, from the truck or the supplier. He asked about coupons right away, and we did a walk through of needed replacements. He gave me the cost for the work, and He then went to a supplier to get the right switches and colors and did them all. He pointed out a coupon I could use that reduced the cost. He was courteous and took the materials he removed from the switches with him, leaving no mess. He gave us information about other electrical issues we want to address, and prices, so we can plan additional expenditures.

That was fine. The guy who came out was very competent and he explained everything to me. He was very respectful. When he discovered that he couldn’t actually do part of the work because it had to be outside and it was far to follow up, he didn’t charge me the fee for coming out that day. He just said he would have to come back later, and so we scheduled a later date right then. He did come back on that later date and did the work and it is working well. There was a little kind of last thing in the price recalculation. It was probably because he ended up doing something extra but I didn’t like having to recalculate right there in the moment and pay it immediately. I had been given a different estimate in advance and I kind of felt caught. I felt like he is right here and he did the work and I will pay him, but I would rather that there had been a little time to consider that.

Everything worked out great. I would use their service again and I have used them again since then. They were very quick to follow up with me. They fit us in with our schedule. We have used Randy's Electric before and was and have been very happy with the quality of service and professionalism. This time, I used an Angie's List Big Deal that was $100 for $200 worth of service. We scheduled an appointment to install a dimmer and to look into an issue we had of a circuit being tripped by our lights. The service was excellent, very professional in every way, the electrician installed the dimmer and checked on the circuit issue. We decided against making any repairs on the circuit based on the his recommendation. Where my biggest criticism lies is in the price. The total bill on the invoice after service was for $406 less $200 for the Big Deal. So out of pocket I paid $206 (+$100 for buying the big deal initially) so effectively I paid $306. What gives me pause is that if I had not used the big deal the entire service would have cost $506? That seems like an unreasonable amount of money to install a dimmer and to diagnose the circuit. Overall, I want to reiterate how happy I am with the service, but the price just isn't worth it. I'll be looking elsewhere to see if the quality is worth the money.
