The service worked out fine. They did a very good job. We are happy with the way they installed the light. They did it quite soon after I purchased the Big Deal. They were very prompt. The Big Deal cost of $90 covered everything. They were on time which is always nice. They are kind of a faith-based organization. I was okay with that, but I can see where some people might be uncomfortable.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for Randy’s Electric. They installed a ceiling light fixture.

My wife and I recently purchased a single family home in Bloomington. We have 2 small children ages 4 and 19 months. The home was more than 60 years old. The first project we undertook was the outdated electrical system. We found Randy's Electric through Angie's List. From the first phone call to the last hand shake we could not have been more pleased with the service we received. The people we spoke to on the phone were attentive, knowledgeable, and polite. Our technician Brent was pleasant, professional, and experienced. Brent invested himself in his work and showed that he cared about our family's home as much as he did the job at hand. Brent always kept us in the loop, gave good insight, and helped us make decisions that would ensure our home's electrical system was safe and well put together. Brent was willing to go above and beyond by peforming small tasks like helping to move furniture that was covering an outlet, and installing a new light fixture. Randy's Electric was the first electrical company my wife and I have contracted with, and they will likely be the last as they have earned our loyalty and repeat business. I would strongly recommend hiring Randy's Electric for your electrical needs.

We replaced an old ceiling fixture in our double entrance hall. Due to the location of the fixture (high ceiling over a stairwell) it took two men and a lot of skill to remove the old (heavy) fixture and install the new one. The staff carefully thought how to accomplish the task. As a result, it was accomplished without any problems.

Timeframe for technician to come to my house was supposed to be from 10:00-12:00. At 11:45, I called Randy's to ask what the status was and was told they were delayed and weren't sure when they would be coming out. At 1:15, Jeremy called to say that he was going to be arriving in 15 minutes, and showed up around 1:30. Jeremy was very professional and assessed what needed to be done and gave me the cost estimate. 1.5 hours later, the work was finished, he had the area cleaned up and was out the door. Thought price was high, but also didn't do any research to see typical cost for this type of work.
Description of Work: I purchased a washer/dryer and needed an electrical outlet for the dryer moved since the cord was too short.

Let me start by saying that I think the work performed was done as good as can be expected. I have had a bathroom exhaust fan installed at another home I own in another city. I?m not going to compare the cost of the two services as cost of living and install complexity are definitely cause for price fluctuations. However, as for what was left to clean up (holes to patch in walls, ceiling, etc.) was to be expected. Before starting the service work to be performed here in Minneapolis, I first came her to Angies List to locate some companies that could provide the service for a reasonable price and from their reviews, had for the most part pleased customers. I understand circumstances can vary and while a bad grade may not be a good indicator of poor service, how a vendor handles the disputes is something I look at. I have not/will not started a dispute with this vendor. The work has been performed and I have paid my bill. I agreed to the cost when the electrician was out to quote, so I knew that day what I was getting in to and by all means had the right to turn him away. The weather was about to turn ugly and I had company coming into town so in my mind I had an urgency to complete job, however, that did not play into the pricing or any expeditious surcharges applied to the job. In doing my research I found a review from Stafford Home Service where similar work was performed on 10/03/2014. Same thing, install bath fan, vent through attic and of course for a new fan install, to install the switch. After all, how are you going to turn on the new fan? Price listed $750. Another review from Stafford for similar work performed where a $120 fan was purchased ahead of time, service completed ran approx. $500 ($620 total). Jump to Randys Electric. I checked the reviews to see how much similar work ran price wise. Review from 10/22/2014 listed similar work performed for $800 which included fan. The comment did mention some complaint towards price, however previous review from Stafford listed it at $750 so still in the ball park. Other reviews also listed good work but steep prices. I shouldn?t have been surprised by my quote. My original quote from the electrician was around $750 - $800 and didn?t include venting or switch (how do you turn on the fan that was just installed). The electrician first advised that he wasn?t licensed to do the venting. Both times I called in to schedule I had advised the work I was needing performed, Installing a bath exhaust fan where there wasn?t one currently and that I would be providing my own fan, so I was confused this was going to be a two vendor job. The electrician had advised going with Minneapolis Plumbing and Heating for the venting. I asked him to include that in his quote. He ran out to the van and contacted them. He came back in and advised that they were going to charge about $1000 to just do the venting, however, to vent that fan you didn?t need to be licensed and that he could then do it himself. Adding the switch for the fan was going to be extra and would run $1000. I advised that I bought the fan and that took $100 bucks off of the price down to $900. When it came to the install, the wiring that was used for the fan, I had already ran from a previous renovation project where the junction for the wires were loose, all he had to do was connect in ceiling and snake to light switch. He advised that he would take $50 off for that. The light switch was accessible via a drop ceiling and the ceiling had open crawl space above it. But the option of snaking to the light switch via the drop ceiling bumped the price back up to $1000. In venting the sheeting on my roof was too thick so I volunteered to go in crawl space and remove some of the original sheeting in that location with my oscillating tool. So after helping with the install of the vent in the roof, running the wires myself, and purchasing and supplying my own fan, I still paid $1000. This pricing is actually humorously, ridiculous. I will not be using them again and will make sure to advise any others who need an electrician to beware of Randy?s. While the end result functionally I am pleased with, pricing is on the border of gouging. But hey they are a faith based company so why not .
Description of Work: Install bathroom exhaust fan where there wasn't one previously. Above the bathroom was exposed crawlspace, and below the bathroom is a drop ceiling. Vent fan out the roof. I ran the wire, I provided the fan.

Thank you for the feedback! You certainly did have quite the experience, I am so sorry about that. Those bathroom exhaust fans are certainly difficult to work with, especially as it relates to the whole piping issue. Each one has a plan of it's own and unfortunately, you fell victim to a more difficult and costly install. I apologize greatly for the mess that was left behind for you to clean up. Our goal is to be sure that when we leave, we take all of our mess with us. I will be sure to take this up with our team of electricians. Lastly, I want to say congratulations to YOU for being such a trooper. Rolling up your sleeves and digging in to help the team of professionals get your job done- that is impressive and very much speaks to your terrific level of character! I trust you are enjoying the new bathroom fan.

Scott called me 30 minutes prior to arrival. Scott and Charlie arrived on time and were friendly and professional. They worked steadily, even asking me if their lunch break time frame was agreeable with me! They were extremely thorough, left owners manuals with me, asked if I had any questions about operation of any of the fixtures, etc. They cleaned up in each work area and hauled away the boxes and stuffing. I was very pleased with the work provided!

We bought an Angie's List Big Deal for $200 of electrical services and were going to use it to replace the smoke detectors in our house. But their prices were extremely high, so we asked Angie's List for a refund of the Big Deal purchase, which they gave us. We then hired someone else to do the work for about 20% of what Randy's electric was going to charge. In the end, this felt like a "bait and switch" in that they give you what appears to be a good "Big Deal" but then charge super high prices for any work you want done.
Description of Work: We didn't hire them.

I was happy that Randy's Electric was able to get an electrician to my house to fix and electrical short to my garage within a few days. The person who took my call was very courteous, professional, friendly, and helpful. Randy's also provided a courtesy phone call the day before to confirm the appointment and Dan called me about 30 minutes before he arrived, and arrived within the appointment time frame. He was neatly dressed and I was happy to see that he wore a photo ID. He explained the charges for diagnosing the short and then provided me with the cost for repair after he found the problems. His workmanship was neat, well done, and done to meet all applicable codes. He completed the job in a timely fashion and explained their Guarantee. This was the first time that I have used Randy's Electric and was very happy with their total response from setting up and appointment to completing the work.. Great job!
Description of Work: Dan listened to my description of corrosion in an external outlet box and hot spot on pipe below box and did an analysis of the circuit for my detached garage to identify source of short. He found source of problem and came up with a solution for repairing that did not require replacement of the underground wire. He installed new piping for the wires coming up out of the ground (I had dug a hole to provide access), installed above ground connection box to properly splice new wires onto the ones coming up from underground, installed new GFIC outlet box, and extended ground wire and provided an improved method for connection of grounding wire to conduit.

They were amazing to work with. They were very prompt and reasonably priced for the work we needed to get done. They gave me an estimate same day to allow for a quick decision on our part. Our plumber accidentally cut one of our new wires in the process of setting the plumbing, and Randy's was quick to come back out to fix the issue. Also, their staff over the phone was always helpful and friendly to get things set up. I will definitely be recommending them!

Jeremy was professional, arrived on time, explained the work to me and completed it (surprisingly) quickly. My only shock was the price; it seemed quite expensive given the averages I found online for bathroom fans, but given his time estimate seemed reasonable. He was done much sooner than planned, and the specific fan they installed was quoted at $225, but I found the identical unit on Amazon for $115. The weren't willing to take anything off the bill for me. To be clear, they did quality work, but I feel it was overpriced and will probably look elsewhere next time.

I purchased the deal from Angie's list and heard back from Randy's the next morning so that was nice. Plus they were able to make my first preferred time slot. I confirmed the appointment and the electrician called about half hour before arriving and was right on time. A few things I noticed that I liked was the offer of booties, he laid drop a nice sized drop cloth to collect debris and brought his own vacuum to clean up. We ran into one small glitch and the electrician took care of it in quick time for a nominal fee. It was something you would not know until you removed the malfunctioning light. I will give them a call next time I need any electrical work done. Thanks!!

Scott came out and gave our estimate. We are very busy during the week so he made a special trip on a Sunday for us. He was very friendly and professional, explaining everything. He also is one of their electricians so we were very happy when he said he could even come do the job personally. The day of the job, my wife was there and she said everything went great. They even bought her lunch as our power was out all day for the change. One of the things we felt would be a problem was our 3 cats getting in the way but Scott and his co-worker welcomed the cats downstairs with them while they worked. Great company and great work!
Description of Work: Switch from fuses to breakers, bring electric up to code.
Great. Jesse, the electrician, arrived at the start of the time window. He was very professional - explained what he was doing throughout the process (e.g., when he said we had to had a fan junction box to meet code). It took about 2 hours due to our plaster ceiling and old wiring.

Everything went perfectly, from appointment scheduling, which was very responsive, to job completion. I have nothing but the absolutely best to say about Shawn, who came to do the job. He was punctual, courteous, knowledgeable, professional, skilled, efficient, hard working. He spent twelve hours in the house to complete all the tasks. Some projects were more challenging than what they initially appeared, and yet he honored the first estimate that he gave me. I was truly impressed. He did not take any short cuts, and paid attention to any detail to make sure I would be completely satisfied (and I am a very picky person...). He went way beyond his way to guarantee an excellent job, to the very end. He was extremely careful, always wearing shoe protections, and he cleaned everything after himself. Terrific. I will definitively call him in the future to do other projects in the house, and I would highly recommend him to anybody who needs anything done. Congratulations, Shawn!

Randy's Electric electrician was very polite upon arrival and wore boot covers while in the house. The electrician was upfront about what the Angie's List deal included for time. He was able to locate and fix the issue within the allotted time. We requested a dimmer switch be installed during the visit. The dimmer switch was already purchased. The electrician had a price sheet for specific installs that made the decision easier. Will use Randy's again in the future.
