Minnesota Eye Consultants need to get their act together. I was supposed to receive a packet before my FREE corneal cross-linking consultation and I didn't receive it till after someone from the research department called and asked if I had any questions about my FREE consultation and if I had a chance to read through my packet. I said "What packet?". I was then sent one 1 week after I had gone. I have now received a bill for my FREE consultation a month later. I was NEVER told there would be ANY fees let alone a bill for my FREE consultation. I was CONTINUALLY told it was a FREE consultation.
"Thank you very much for leaving such kind words about Dr. Davis and Minnesota Eye Consultants. It's great to hear our Research Department has a current study that fits your eye care needs! We know you have many options in regards to eye care professionals, so we are grateful that you chose us. Thank you for sharing your experience with Minnesota Eye Consultants!"

Next, they have you put on sun glasses and you're free to go. You'll have someone waiting for you (friend or family) to drive you home. Then, you get home and they tell you to sleep for a few hours and take it easy the rest of the day. From then on, you pretty much put eye drops in the next few weeks and slowly taper them off. Then you go in for a follow up eye exam to see how your vision turned out.
I'm happy with how it turned out. I love that I don't have to buy contacts and contact solution and worry about if I packed my glasses if I go on a trip, and what happens if a contact falls out and all of that hassle.
Dr. Davis was great and I felt confident in what she was doing. My only complaint was that when I went in for my initial consultation, she had an assistant with a thick accent and a quiet voice that was testing my vision and figuring out my specs for lasik, and I had to ask her to repeat herself several times and a few times I didn't understand what she was asking or doing because I couldn't hear her well. Other than that, it was a great experience and I'm glad I did it.
Side note: It helps if you come in having already researched the surgery, so you have your questions ready to go, because you'll get to meet with everyone that day.
A few weeks later it was time for the surgery. You'll need someone to drive you to and from the surgery, and they won't have to wait long; it literally takes about 15 minutes, and the surgery is maybe 5 minutes. I got their the day of my appointment and the first thing I did was pay for my surgery. Next, I went into a room where I was talked through everything that would happen again and given a "kit" for recovery, which included a pair of sun glasses and different kinds of eye drops. I was given some pain killers and then brought into the room for surgery.
Lasik surgery itself is kind of an interesting experience, very sci-fi. It's this dark room with a chair. You lay down and basically look into a laser for a few minutes and then you're done. You lose vision for a few seconds (which is normal), but then you see normal immediately after, it's kind of crazy. The only thing is, your eyes are super sensitive to light for the next 12 hours or so. I was driven home and slept for a few hours. I took it easy the next few days and put a lot of drops in my eyes. Expect a pretty strict regiment of eye drops for the next few months. Totally worth it though.
I love the fact I save time each morning and evening not having to put in/take out contacts. I also enjoy not having to buy contacts and contact solution, or getting a dry contact during an inopportune time.
My only critique from the experience was the person testing my eyes before the procedure had trouble with some of her english and was soft spoken, so I had to ask her to repeat what she was saying a few times and I was a little worried we'd have a miscommunication with each other and I'd end up with the wrong eye measurements. Seems like it turned out fine though.
All in all it was very professional and a good experience.
