The basement flooded last summer, it took over 3 months for it to be usable again. We'd get calls from different contractors to do work, no idea what work they were supposed to be doing, they'd come and do an estimate, then a different company would call to arrange the same repair. Frequently, Invitation would call us to find out if anyone had contacted us or if the repair had been done. Months of various contractors coming in and doing nothing but taking measurements, unable to tell us what repairs Invitation Home had authorized and when they might be completed.
We've now purchased a home, and inquired about ending our lease early. They have been quite clear that they will do absolutely nothing to re-rent the property. We understand they aren't legally required to, but we can't get clear answers on anything related to moving out (all communication via email, because they will not answer their phones or respond to direct requests for a phone call).
I get the sense they are taking it personally that we are moving out and want to make us pay the maximum in penalties. Maybe legal, but not a company I would recommend doing business with.
