They were very professional and very accurate. They came out right away. We were quite pleased with them. We were able to speak with them right away, which was really helpful. We do not have to leave a message and wait for somebody to get back to you. I would use their service in the future too.

The job was good. They did masonry kind of work with the front stoop. We had an existing patio enclosure, and they got rid of all the rotting wood and stuff. They fixed the screens. We would use them again in the future if necessary.

As the result of a hailstorm in late September 2005, we needed to have our roof and siding replaced. We also decided to replace the kitchen window with larger one that was better sized so some one shorter could see the yard. :) When Dan came out to give us an estimate for insurance purposes, he very quickly determined that it would not be a problem replacing the window (no electrical wires in the way). He was able to give us an estimate that day covering the replacement of the roof and siding and two estimates for the window--based on whether the siding on that side would be covered by insurance or not. He recommended a particular window manufacturer, but said that I could choose a less expensive manufacturer if I wished. He gave me references, and proof of insurance and bonding without me having to ask--allowed me to make copies--I called a few people and went to look at the jobs his company had done. He also gave me samples of shingles and siding and the address of a company where I could go compare the colors and sizes of siding since everything was being replaced. His subs were extremely professional, supplied necessary photos for the inspectors and showed up on time, completed the job on time. His brother in law took care of the removing the old window, enlarging the window opening, installing the new window. Took him less than two hours--as they had already removed the old siding. The window was fabulous--easy to install, very weather tight. We loved it. Dan gave us a 15 year warranty on the work done. We were very pleased with this company and would use them in a heart beat. Unfortunately, all their hard work was undone by a lightning strike a year and half later--and we were unable to have them come in because insurance worked with specific contractors to rebuild the house. Dan did help me with some questions I had when our siding and roof was replaced by the fire contractor's subs. Dan Netko and all the people I worked with during the repair process of our hail damage were very professional and just wonderful to work with. I highly recommend this company.

At the end of October, Dan Netko came out to my house to discuss what I was looking for in windows and take measurements for an estimate. Dan sold me on Lindsay inserts and we agreed on Larson storms. I was concerned that the vinyl Lindsay inserts would not fit with my old home. He insisted he uses them in lots of older homes and it would not be a problem. After much discussion and many calls on his part, he said he had what he needed and that I could expect an estimate in the next few days. More than a week later, I was working in my yard and I found Dan's clipboard in my yard. He had dropped it when he was doing some measurements outside. I called him to inform him that he had left his clipboard - with all my information and specifications - in my yard. Dan acknowledged that he had dropped it but had forgot to call me about it and he apologized. While I was hesitant to continue, I decided to continue because the windows seemed quality and I was interested in qualifying for the energy tax credit. During the next few days, Dan continued to call me with questions which seems like basic issues we had discussed at our meeting. He finally sent me a very basic estimate, with little detail, for approximately $11k to do Lindsay vinyl inserts and Larson storms on 10 windows and storms only on several other windows. I decided to accept the quote and I sent him a down payment check for $7,500. The next day, his window installer subcontractor came over to measure the windows. The subcontractor told Dan that he did not think the Lindsays were compatible with the Larson storm windows and therefore I would not be able to open the storm windows based on how the Lindsay windows were built. Dan called me with this news along with his concern that the Larson storm windows might need to be assembled on site rather than at the manufacturer. I was troubled to hear that the inserts and storms might not be compatible and I decided to cancel the work. I called Dan to inform him and he told me that an option for me would be to get Marvin sash kits but that the price would go up by $2,000. I had previously received a quote for Marvin sash kits which was far below what he was quoting me. I declined his offer and asked him to send me back my check. Dan told me he would do so, but I have not yet received it.
Description of Work: No service was performed. I was interested in new windows (sash kit or insert) and storm windows.

Response from Dan Netko Exteriors Inc
At the time the member wrote that report, she hadn't received her money back, but shortly after that, she did. There were 2 complicating factors involved in coming up with an accurate quote and scope of work. The main thing was that the storm windows she wanted were a special "sound control" version of the larson storm window. It wasn't until my window installer looked at the house that we realized that the way it mounted onto the brick mold might not be compatible with a vinyl insert window installation. I called technical people at Larson and Lindsay and no one could answer the question of compatibility. The only way to know for sure how the storm window and the window would work together was to order them and attempt the installation. We knew that if we used the Marvin sash kit it would work with the sound control storms, because that's what she had on the windows that weren't being replaced. So I gave her the price of using the marvin windows instead and when she says someone elses price was a lot lower, I really don't know if she was doing a fair, apples to apples comparison.

My initial call was not returned until nearly 10 o'clock at night. The appointment for getting an estimate was set for a weekday afternoon. In my quest for a new roof, I'd called several companies and scheduled several estimates; a representative from another company was set to come over the same afternoon as Dan Netko Exteriors. I made sure to schedule the appointments so that I'd have time to go over each report in detail, if necessary. Dan called two hours before his scheduled appointment and said that he had to come over right away to give me an estimate; something had changed in his schedule and the original time no longer worked for him. I said that no, I had another roofer over for an estimate and did not want him stopping by just that minute. "This is the only time that works for me all day," Dan told me. I asked if he wanted to come by tomorrow, or later in the week. "No, it has to be right now." I told him that if he was so unwilling either to stick to the original schedule or to set a new appointment, then I had no interest in working with him.

I was leaving on a trip the next day and was going to be gone for several days. When my shedule got messed up that day, I was left with a very narrow window of time to do the estimate. Sometimes life happens and we can't always do things the way we want. Sorry.

Dan Netko was one of three contractors who bid on our roofing and insulation project. We ended up going with a different contractor who bid about the same price. The main reason was because during our initial discussion of the project, as I shared ideas that other contractors had mentioned, Dan dismissed them without discussion. I felt like he was not listening to me. When I called to let him know that we went with a different contractor he asked me why, so that's what I told him. We ended up in an argument. About five minutes after the call, he called me again. He was sarcastic, told me I was doing something stupid, and hung up before I could say anything.

I thought I explained why I had made certain recommendations to him and was not aware that he felt not listened to (communication can be a funny thing) As far as the arguement, I don't remember just how it got started, but I didn't call him stupid, just told him that what someone else recommended and he decided to do didn't make any sense from an engineering standpoint. I can see that he may have taken that as arrogant. I have 31 years of hands on experience with the issues we were discussing, and an engineering background. It was clear to me what the most logical solution to his ventilation problem was. I'm sorry if I ended up being sarcastic with him. It's hard to resist with some people.

Unfortunately when they started so did the rainy season of MN in June. Started work at noon the first day(later as it was suppose to rain that morning) and worked until sunset to try and get it done before the rain the next day. Unfortunately got about 3/4 done and had to stop. Had to wait a couple days for the rain then they came and got the roof finished between rain storms. They did a great job of tarping the roof to keep it dry during the rain. Gutter folks came about a 4 days later...again had to wait for a sunny day. The roof and gutters look great and so does my yard. Never hurt one plant around the place and they picked it up cleaner then when they came! They got the job done very timely even with all the rain! Unfortunately it did not pass inspection and here I am a year later still waiting for any response to getting this inspection to pass. It was a good experience up until the end...very disappointed. Update: inspection did eventually get performed and passed with city.

The final inspection was passed after several delays of trying to get the inspector back there. He didn't pass it initially because he didn't have a ladder to go up and look at the dick-out flashings, so he didn't know if they were there.. The flashings were done properly. Sorry for the long delay in getting it resolved. Dan Netko

Overall, it went very well. I was extremely cautious because there are lot of windows and installers out there. I worked with Dan Netko, the owner/proprietor. Dan is a general contractor and hires out the work to his trusted installers. He was extremely kind and informative with helping me choose the correct windows for my home at a price that I wanted. The main part of the installation was done in about a day, with a followup visit to install a window that was measured incorrectly at the factory. The inserts look beautiful and have cut our heating costs down this winter. Keep in mind that this is not a slick outfit like Andersen Renewal. Dan is an honest, old fashioned business man who will see the job done right. If the bid works out, I plan on having Dan install siding on my house this year. On a side note, I encourage all purchasers of services to be actively involved in their projects. Review invoices carefully and inspect work before install crews leave the scene! Ask lots of questions!!

As a family, we needed to make 2 decisions: 1. Whether to use architectural shingles. 2. Whether to change the color of the shingles. The contractor gave us a number of references so that we could see what our house would look like when covered with the type and color of shingles that we were considering. Because of our busy schedules, it took us a while to complete this comparison. The contractor was very patient and offered any assitance that was needed to make a decision that we would be comfortable with. As we worked through the details of finalizing the roofing costs, the contractor worked with the insurance company to ensure that certain items ommitted from the original insurance estimate were included. The roofing crew that performed the job was very polite, kept us fully informed when they would arrive, kept us informed about weather related issues, worked quietly, dropped materials removed from the roof only in the dumspter, and cleaned up after themselves very well before they left. The crew only removed roofing materials that they could reasonably cover during the course of the working day.
Description of Work: The contractor reroofed our house. The roof was damaged as a result of a hail storm. The services included removing the existing roofing materials and replacing with new shingles, valleys, and roof vents. Also included was the installation of new gutters over the front and rear entry doors.

The only problem we had in the whole project was that the subcontractor who was to make the windows was tied up in some sort of financial problem which stopped the production of windows. This was not something Dan could control. So we decided to wait on the project until the windows would be completed. The existing windows were removed and disguarded, the new windows were installed, old exterior doors were removed, and the new doors were installed. The original exterior door from the garage was poorly installed. The concrete base for the doorway did not allow for a tight door. Dan managed to correct this problem instead of just installing the new door as the old door was installed. The window installation crew was very .good.
Description of Work: We added windows to a project involving replacement of our siding and roofing. The windows were made by a subcontractor, although Dan had helped select the windows and the subcontractor, including a number of addresses of houses in which Dan had installed windows. We also had a number of exterior doors replaced.

Dan or his work crew supervisor kept us informed about the scheduled work and what was completed each day.

The siding work involved removal of the old siding, its disposal, sealing the house and attaching the new siding. The work was done efficiently and the work site was kept as clean as one might keep it when removing siding and roofing. Dan kept us informed about what would be done on a daily basis and what changes, if any, might be needed in scheduling the work crews.
Description of Work: Dan replaced our old siding which had been storm damaged and was showing the effects of sunlight. Dan worked with our insurance company on the costs of storm damage to the siding and the roof. He helped us select a style and composition for new siding. In addition to siding and a new roof, we also replaced a number of our windows and doors. All the work was done quite professionally, efficiently and within the costs of the bid.

The project was a hail-damaged roof replacement. Initial contact with the company was with the sales rep, who showed up for the appointment 45 minutes late. He did not call to let me know he would be late. That irritated me; it was not professional. I wanted some insulation work done (by another contractor) under part of the roof before the new roof was installed. I explained this to the sales rep and then again to Dan Netko, the owner. At least three times when I talked with Dan Netko about scheduling the roof replacement, he hadn't remembered our discussion about the insulation having to be done first. I reminded him of this each time, but he said he didn't remember the discussion. Scheduling two services (roofing and insulation) to be done one before the other, but within a relatively short time, may not be routine, but it shouldn't be that difficult. I had to initiate most of the communication with Dan Netko Exteriors. I was rarely called, except when it was to discuss billing. I think the workmanship and quality of the job was first-rate. But overall, because of poor or no communication, it was a frustrating experience for me.

I've always made it a point to call prospective customer ahead of time if I'm going to be even 10 minutes late. Evidently, for some reason, I didn't do it this time, I'm sorry. I don't remember why there might have been a problem with communication, but I pride myself on making the maximum effort to communicate frequently and keep customers informed about any changes in schedule etc. I'm not perfect.

We're very pleased with the new windows. We have had some problems with the handles becoming stripped and not closing properly, but Dan and Andco have been very responsive to fixing the handles and adjusting them to work properly. We even had an instance where one set of our new windows were leaking inside (which we found out was of no fault to the installation of the windows) and Dan came to the house and repaired the problem which was structural to the house and not his work for no charge! We'll certainly be hiring Dan again to install more windows for us as our budget allows over the coming years.
Description of Work: The original windows in our home are wood frame and rotting. Many times we experienced water coming in the windows on the west side of the house. Dan came to our home and met with us to review our options and recommend the Andco windows for replacement. He was very courteous and professional and responsive to our questions prior to our placing the order. Due to the number of windows that need to be replaced and the size of our home, we couldn't afford to replace them all at once. Therefore, Dan has been here on 3 different occasions to replace windows and a sliding patio door for us. Because we were finishing the interior part of the windows ourselves, Dan worked with us to coordinate delivery of the windows with sufficient time to complete the finishing prior to the scheduled installation. Dan and his crew did a nice job cleaning up and removing the construction debris and leaving the house in the condition it was in before they started the work.

Dan Netko was wonderful working with the insurance appraiser when we were having problems with coverage. The crew started on time. Halfway through the project there was a snow storm. The crew kept the old shingles on the half they didn't complete but did not weather proof an area enough where the old shingles met the new shingles and we had a small leak inside the house. I called Dan and he quickly got someone to come out on a Sunday evening and weather proof the leaking area on the roof. Dan came and assessed the damage inside the house. He apologized and stated he would cover any damage inside the house. Thanks to his quick response the damage was very minimal. The crew did a wonderful job especially where the screen porch roof (an addition to the house several years ago) butted up to roof on the main part of the house. We have had some problems with water leaking inside the house in the past because of the way the screen roof had to be designed. The weather finally improved and the crew finished the job. We are very satisfied with the finished roof. Except for not brushing off the deck, the crew cleaned up most of the screws and tacs elsewhere around the house.
