I was looking for something other than physical therapy to help strengthen my back, which needed a 2nd surgery but I was trying to delay as long as possible. I started with pilates and had excellent success managing my symptoms until the surgery was inevitable. However, I made an incredible come-back post-op and was back to my routine 4 weeks after spine fusion. I can't say enough about how well my trainer knows my back (better than I do, I believe) and what things work and don't work. I have moved on to a combination of personal training and pilates and have no plans to change my workouts there. The atmosphere is casual and uncomplicated--no memberships, so if you don't have an appointment or class, there aren't people coming in off the street to work out. The personal attention is fantastic and trainers are able to sub for each other without interruption to the client schedule.
Description of Work: I had a consultation at BFL in July 2014 and have done training there twice/week every since. First impressions are important and I was impressed from the very start.

BFL is a great studio for Pilates and personal training. The employees are knowledgeable and nice to work with. This was my first experience working with a trainer and it was not an intimidating experience at all.
Description of Work: Had weekly personal training and Pilates sessions with one of their trainers.

Description of Work: I joined BFL after finding it on Angie's list. I wanted to get in shape, but had a bad experience with a trainer at LA Fitness. I can't give BFL enough praise. I love not only my trainer (Brent) but also all of the other staff, the facilities and everything associated with it. It's really nice to be able to see a trainer but go 30 minutes before and/or after your appointment to use the cardio equipment - best of all, ONLY people who see a trainer can use the equipment, so I've never had to wait. ||I would say the nicest thing about it is that I can get a quality workout with people who actually care. I called in sick one time, and since there was a person after me and they were a bit early, they let them take my time slot and didn't charge me for that session. Also, when I came in the next week the receptionist asked if I was feeling better. ||I am now on my second round of 12 half-hour training sessions, and will continue to buy them.

Excellent staff and classes.
Description of Work: Balance for Life Fitness is a wonderful center. The instructors are phenomenal, the class size small -- I cannot say enough good things about this center.

I love the personal attention. The quality of the workout is much better that what I got on my on at home or in a big box gym. I can feel myself getting stronger without a lot of the next day muscle soreness and stiffness and I'm not worried about injuring myself. Injuries have been a problem in the past for me. I also love that they have personal shower/changing rooms. The facilities are clean and the staff are very friendly. Julie, the owner, took the time to introduce herself to me even though I'm working with a different trainer.
Description of Work: I'm a chronic exercise dropout and thought personal pilates instruction might be what I needed to establish a routine I can stick to. The consultation was free and included a sample pilates workout (they also do regular personal training, and classes). I work with Candace and she has done a wonderful job building a routine that works for me.

I was looking for a more personalized (and less intimidating) experience than the "big box" fitness centers, especially since I hadn't been in the gym for several years. Julie and her staff fit a good niche for people with specific injuries or health issues. or who may not be comfortable in a large, impersonal fitness center. The facilities are somewhat cozy (this isn't a Lifetime Fitness), but I enjoy the people and find myself renewing with BFL again and again. I don't think I would have stuck with a regimine in a standard fitness center environment. BFL personal training rates are comparable and I feel like I'm getting so much more out of the experience than I would have gotten elsewhere. If you need specialized attention or are just getting started, check BFL out.
Description of Work: I've been training with personal trainer Laurie G for over a year.

I was looking for a personal trainer I just hit the big 60 and had just joined Angie's list. I found this group Balance for Life from Angie's List. This is a small gym you work one on one with your personal trainer Once, or twice a week you come in and they work with you for an hour, you could choose other schedules if you would like. I see Laurie who is very professional and really does a great job of giving me a good workout. I go one day a week for an hour and then on my own the rest of the week. It really motivates me to have Laurie work with me, she doesn't skimp on the exercise but is conscious of any limitations I may have she is the greatest. Everyone should join.

Needed a guided/supervised/personalized fitness program that was specific to my health issues. Contacted Julie (the owner), she was very responsive to my needs and selected a Personal Trainer that she thought would be the best fit for me. I met with Denise for a complimentary consultation, LOVED her. I picked a package (financial/ schedule) that was comfortable for me, and have been working with Denise for a few months now. Everything about BFL is near PERFECT. The environment is comfortable, clean, and quiet. Great equipment, ample parking, a private shower/dressing area, and complimentary bottled water and healthy snacks are available at all times. Typically only one or two other trainers/clients are sharing the space. The only less-than-positives for me (and these likely wouldn't bother anyone else in the least): (1)- it is a co-ed fitness center, (2)- it is against policy for a trainer to work with two clients at once, so my "buddy workouts" with a friend weren't possible. A+++
Description of Work: Ongoing one-on-one fitness training with a personal trainer. Massage and Pilates are also available, but I haven't taken advantage of those. Cost varies quite a bit and is dependent on your trainer and the package/schedule you pick. The cost I listed is for aprox 8 half-hour sessions (training twice a week for one month).

HER SCHEDULING IS HORRENDOUS YET SHE MAKES EVERY EFFORT TO SUCCESSFULLY MEET HER CLIENTS NEEDS. SHE IS EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL AND INCREDIBLY KNOWLEDGEABLE ESPECIALLY REGARDING CARDIO-MUSCULO-PHYSIOLOGY INCLUDING THE NUTRITIONAL ASPECT. I AM WILLING TO WRITE A PERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL REFERENCE FOR JULIE SCHUMACHER BUT THIS FORMAT WILL NOT ALLOW FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL EXPERIENCES SHE HAS PROVIDED FOR ME.
Description of Work: JULIE SCHUMACHER HAS BEEN MY PERSONAL TRAINER SINCE JULY 2003. SHE CONTINUOUSLY GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND HER CALL TO MEET MY CARDIO-PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS. I HAVE WORKED OUT WITH HER 4 TIMES A WEEK AND CURRENTLY WORKS OUT 3 TIMES A WEEK WITH HER. SHE WORKS ME HARD BUT ONLY WHAT I CAN TOLERATE AND I FEEL GREAT. ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS I HAVE EVER MADE IN MY LIFE WAS TO WORK WITH JULIE. SHE IS CUSTOMER FOCUS AND HAS EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. HER COST VARIES, I BELIEVE, ACCORDING TO HOW OFTEN YOU TRAIN WITH HER.
