$620
THIS MAN IS A FRAUD! Despite the fact that he guaranteed
that his work would fix my problems, I?m completely dissatisfied with the results,
and I?m out $620 dollars to boot. I?m going to have to hire another mold
remediation expert to test the area, as there is still significant staining
remaining on the walls. I think maybe I should hire a lawyer as well.
My experience is as follows.
I?d had a leaky pipe this past fall/winter. I personally removed some drywall
to try and find the source of the problem, and discovered extensive mold
growing inside the walls. So, as any responsible adult would do, I called in
several mold remediation companies. The diagnosis was unanimous, I had Stachybotrys,
a dangerous type of mold growing in my basement.
Despite the fact that they canceled our first appointment
without notice, I hired Jensen & Jensen to remediate my mold problem. Mr. Nick
Jensen arrived at about 6pm on 7/8/15. Upon, Mr. Jensen?s arrival he made no
effort to investigate the problem. He did no testing whatsoever and he made no
effort to try and determine how extensive the mold problem really was. He
simply started spraying the area that I had uncovered, as well as the outsides
of the walls and ceilings in the surrounding area.
Furthermore, Mr. Jensen did not disclose the product he was
using, saying only that it was proprietary mix. When pressed further he
asserted that it was ?inspired by God?. That?s a quote.
The next day Mr. Jensen disclosed by text that his mix included
?zinc borax white vinigur salt silver?. That?s also a quote. He also added that
the ?silver? comes from ?3 silver coins? that he ?placed at the bottom of the
vat?. Again, that?s a quote.
The last ingredient in Mr. Jensen?s concoction was some type of ?eucalyptus?,
the purpose of which was an odorant apparently.
I want to emphasize that Mr. Jensen?s focus was spraying his
mold remediation product on the outside of the walls and ceilings. Even if his
chemical concoction was effective (and there?s no evidence that it is), spraying
chemical on the outside of the walls will NOT treat mold on the inside of the
walls according to every other expert in the field with whom I?ve consulted.
I asked other remediation companies what they use, and they
cited commercial products. None used anything remotely similar to that of Mr.
Jensen.
Once Mr. Jensen was ?done? the project looked EXACTLY as it did when he
started. The mold was clearly visible from across the room. He had no intention
of going any further.  I had to persuade
him to go further and to remove the visual indication of mold, as I was skeptical
of the efficacy of his proprietary product. Additionally, because every
remediation company promised to remove any indication of mold, it was obvious to
me that Mr. Jensen was trying to short-change us by leaving work incomplete.
I persuaded Mr. Jensen to go further and to pull off more
drywall to see if he could find more mold. He pulled off precisely one small
piece (about 1-2 square feet) exposing multiples species of obvious mold
colonies. He even asserted to us that he?d just discovered more Stachybotrys.
It took him less than 3 minutes to do this, and he investigated no further.
Mr. Jensen then asked us to supply him with bleach so that
he could clean up the project area more thoroughly, and remove the visual
indication of mold. He then proceeded to spray a ?20% bleach? solution on the
walls and wood, and informed me that after 24 hours I?d ?never know there was
ever mold there.? He also put in about 3 seconds worth of scrubbing (with a rag
he asked that I provide for him).
At that point Mr. Jensen called it a day, and left significant drywall pieces
and dust all over the room. He even asked me to provide a drop-cloth for the
area. He tossed carelessly threw the drop cloth in my backyard once he was done
with it.
Mr. Jensen then demanded $620 in check or cash. He provided
no invoice. He provided no breakdown of the costs incurred. He may as well have
pulled the number out of thin air.
The next day the project area looked as though it had been
bleached, but the mold was as present as ever. The few areas where he scrubbed
looked cleaner, but it was patently obvious that mold was still present on most
of the wood. Every mold remediation company I have spoken to (including himself
prior to his visit) informed me that after mold remediation, absolutely no mold
or staining should be visible.
I called Mr. Jensen out again to give the job another shot.
He stopped out with some ?stronger bleach? which he sprayed on the wood and
walls again. Once again putting in only a tiny effort to scrub the obviously
stained wood. He informed me that he was using ?wood bleach? which is oxalic acid,
a bleach product that does not contain chlorine like normal household bleach.
Yet when he sprayed this product in the house, there was a very obvious
chlorine smell.  In short, he was
absolutely lying to my face.
After about 15 minutes, Mr. Jensen felt his ?work? was complete. Yet the
staining is still very obvious, and from across the room you can still identify
colonies of mold very easily. Furthermore, a modicum of research indicates that
chlorine bleach should never be used on non-porous surfaces for remediating
mold, and is explicitly stated in OSHA's Mold Remediation/ Clean-Up Methods
guidelines that it shouldn?t be employed for this purpose and actually
exacerbates the issue.
By this point I was becoming increasingly skeptical of Mr. Jensen ?s assertions,
as even a cursory understanding of chemistry would be enough to contradict many
of his claims.
Finally, Mr. Jensen lied directly to my face telling me he
hadn?t cashed the check yet, as he promised to hold the check for 24 hours. Yet
my bank account clearly indicated that he?d already cashed the check previously
that day.
So while Mr. Jensen ?worked? I called an independent mold
testing company as well as another mold remediation company in the area to try
to confirm or disconfirm his assertions. They confirmed many of fears. Mold
should not be visible when work was finished. Treating the outside of the
drywall is completely insufficient as a treatment for mold on the inside of the
drywall. In fact, their assertions closely matched the first professional
remediation company that I had had inspect the problem area, and they
contradicted most if not all of Mr. Jensen?s assertions as well.
A point that is worth emphasizing, is that Mr. Jensen?s proprietary
mix is nothing like the products that are used by these more reputable firms.
With these facts I confronted Mr. Jensen about his lies and informed him that
the area still looked terrible. Without another word, he walked straight out
the door.
At this point I started to take a video of the encounter, Mr.
Jensen?s only word was that the area ?looked better? than before he arrived. I?ll
have you note that ?better? is not ?good?. And since we are talking about an
organism that posed a significant health risk to anyone near the colonies, I
wasn?t impressed. Particularly since it had been bleached twice in 24 hours,
which may remove the visual indication of mold, but absolutely does not
remediate the problem. He drove off without another word, but did start texting
me shortly thereafter. I?ve got the text record to prove that.

We were out of town when we heard about the heavy rainstorms in Minneapolis. We called a neighbor who checked and sure enough we had about an inch of water all over the basement. I checked Angie's List and found Jensens. They called back right away and we scheduled for them to get a key from the neighbor to get into our basement. They came the next day and pumped out 500 gallons of water, put our furniture up on blocks and cleaned the floors with something to kill mold. They returned after we got back in town to do another cleaning and mold-killer application for another $100. I really appreciated their responsiveness and honesty. It was a leap of faith to let strangers into our home when we were away. Thanks to Angie's List, we found the Jensens.

The first job: It went wonderful. We could not have done it without him.

The second job: Im still in awe. So worthy inspectors on what he had to do. This is all because the original builder put the deck on wrong. He could tell there was a problem from just looking from the second floor.

Both Nick Jensen and his wife Merl were great.  They listened to what I wanted to have done and then suggested that I have the walls painted to go along with the new flooring.  They were right the painting was needed also.  I have used this company repeatedly and will continue to use them.

The project well very well. The work was on schedule and the estimate was accurate. They were prompt and professional, and pleasant to have around our home. I would recommend them for and any work, especially in custom built homes, well landscaped gardens, and around pets and families. The workmanship was great, the project completed on time and they cleaned up the work site. Very nice people!
