"This was a great job with no major issues or setbacks. Being that this was a basement bath/shower redo, it did take longer for things to dry. I was over my estimated finish day by two. An overall grade of "A" is great and think all of the B's are just done in general as the customer was happy throughout the project. Thank You, Dave"
"ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO PRICE LISTED IN THE FEEDBACK, THE JOB COST WAS $970.00. THE TILE CHOSEN FOR THE PROJECT WAS A SPECIAL ORDER IRREGULAR HAND MADE SUBWAY TILE, WHICH IS MORE DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH THAN THE TYPICAL FACTORY PRODUCED SUBWAY TILE. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY HAD THEIR TILE CHOSEN YET WHEN THEY RECEIVED THE OTHER ESTIMATES BUT THAT COULD MAKE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE COST. I DO CHECK MY PRICING AS OFTEN AS I CAN TO MAKE SURE I'M COMPETITIVE."
"THIS REPORT WAS A REAL SURPRISE AND I HAD TO DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE POSTING A RESPONSE. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE MY RESPONSE WAS ACCURATE AND DOUBLE CHECK MY FACTS. THE REPORT IS DATED AUGUST 1ST BUT DID NOT POST UNTIL AUGUST 30TH, ALMOST EIGHT MONTHS AFTER THE JOB WAS COMPLETED. WHEN I LEFT SHE WAS HAPPY WITH BOTH BATHROOMS AND NEVER GAVE THE IMPRESSION THAT THERE WERE ANY PROBLEMS OTHER THAN THE UPSTAIRS BATHROOM TILE HEIGHT CHANGE THAT I’LL EXPLAIN BELOW. FIRST, THERE WERE TWO BATHROOMS TILED FOR A TOTAL OF $4350.00 NOT $2500.00. THE FIRST BATHROOM WAS TO START DECEMBER 17, 2007. I PICKED UP HER MATERIALS THAT DAY, BUT COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE OTHER CONTRACTOR WAS NOT FINISHED WITH HIS PREP WORK. THE CLIENT WAS OUT OF TOWN AS SHE STATED AND NEVER LEFT A NUMBER WHERE SHE COULD BE REACHED. SHE WAS NOT AWARE OF MY LATE START UNTIL SHE CONTACTED ME. (I DID MENTION TO HER IN CONVERSATION THAT MY FURNACE WENT OUT BUT IT DID NOT AFFECT HER JOB AT ALL. IT WAS WORKED ON IN THE EVENING AND AT NIGHT AND MY WIFE WAS HOME WHEN THE REPAIR MAN CAME.) WE ALSO HAD SNOWSTORMS DURING THAT TIME. EVEN WITH THE LATE START, MY PORTION OF THE BATHROOM REMODEL WAS COMPLETED ON THE 23RD AS SCHEDULED EVEN THOUGH ADDITIONAL WORK HAD BEEN ADDED BY THE CLIENT AFTER SCHEDULING. THE PLUMBER, WHO I WORK WITH OFTEN, KNEW WHEN I WAS TO COMPLETE MY PORTION AND HE WAS TO SET THE TOILET. HE STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THE SECOND BATHROOM WAS STARTED AFTER CHRISTMAS AND COMPLETED IN JANUARY, 2008. I REMOVED OLD PLASTIC 4 X 4 TILES FROM HER WALLS AROUND THE BATHROOM. THE TILE WAS REPLACED WITH 8 X 10 TILES, 2- 1” STRIPS AND BULLNOSE. THE NEW INSTALL HEIGHT WAS PLACED APPROXIMATELY A 1” TO 1 ½” OVER THE OLD TILE HEIGHT BECAUSE OF THE LAYOUT, BORDER AND BULLNOSE. WHEN TALKING ABOUT THE LAYOUT, SHE WANTED THE NEW TILE TO REPLACE THE OLD TILE WHICH WAS 56” HIGH. A LOWER HEIGHT WAS NEVER DISCUSSED. IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN, I WOULD HAVE ADVISED HER TO REPLACE THE DRYWALL. SHE WAS AT WORK WHEN I FINISHED SETTING THE TILE AND WAS GOING OUT OF TOWN THE NEXT DAY. WHEN I ARRIVED TO GROUT, SHE HAD LEFT A NOTE STATING THAT SHE "CHECKED WITH SOME EXPERIENCED FRIENDS AND THEY SUGGESTED THAT THE TILE HEIGHT SHOULD BE BETWEEN 42” AND 48”.” SHE WANTED THE TOP 10” TILES REMOVED AND THE 2- 1” STRIPS AND BULLNOSE MOVED DOWN. I REMOVED AND REPLACED THE TILES SHE REQUESTED AND DID NOT CHARGE HER ADDITIONAL LABOR FOR THE ADDITIONAL WORK NOW REQUESTED RESULTING IN AN ADDITIONAL DAY. BUT BY DOING THIS, IT BROUGHT THE WALL TILE HEIGHT APPROXIMATELY 8” BELOW WHERE THE OLD TILE HEIGHT WAS LEAVING THE OLD RESIDUE ON THE WALL ABOVE THE NEW TILE. THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE WALL THAT I WAS TRYING TO COVER, OTHER THEN THE SAME FOOTPRINT OF THE OLD TILE."
"THE RATING OF "B" IN PROFESSIONALISM AND RESPONSIVENESS IS CURIOUS SINCE I MET WITH THE CLIENT THE SAME DAY SHE CALLED AND WROTE THE ESTIMATE WHILE MEETING WITH HER. AFTER SEVERAL PHONE CALLS OF ANSWERING ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS SHE DECIDED TO HIRE ME TO DO THE WORK. THE WORK WAS BOOKED 3 WEEKS OUT AND IT TOOK OVER TWO WEEKS TO GET HER DEPOSIT. I THEN RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM HER THE WEEKEND BEFORE OUR START SAYING SHE WANTED TO CANCEL BECAUSE SHE FOUND SOMEONE CHEAPER. IT ISN'T THE NORM TO STILL BE TAKING BIDS ONCE YOU AWARD A COMPANY THE CONTRACT, IT'S JUST POOR FORM. (SHE RATED MY PRICE AN "A".) ONCE HER CHECK CLEARED I SENT HER A FULL REFUND. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE COMMENT OF WHAT SHE LIKED LEAST ABOUT ME. WE HAD 5 PHONE CONVERSATIONS UP TO HER EMAIL TO CANCEL THEN SHE WOULD NOT RETURN PHONE CALLS OR EVEN EMAILS."
