Upon my first visit, I was impressed by the range of carpet options and the attentiveness of our salesperson. One of the first things I noticed about the staff was that they were dressed professionally and acted like they knew what they were doing. My salesperson, Lindsey, gave me as much space as I needed, meaning she allowed me to peruse the carpet selections without hovering around me. She checked in with me periodically to see if I had questions. I asked several questions on style, durability and sought her opinion on appearance. I was working to coordinate with our paint color and our upholstery. At the conclusion of my first visit, she allowed me to take as many samples home as I wanted and indicated there was no hurry to bring them back. She made a record of which ones I took and took my contact information. I returned three more times to narrow down my selection and to take home more samples. On these occasions, Lindsey wasn't there. BUT, each salesperson I talked to was helpful, knowledgeable, could address my questions, and most importantly could access my file and paperwork.
After I made my selection, Lindsey scheduled my measurement. She made note of the fact that I used Angie's List and incorporated a 10% reduction on the overall order.
When Abbey Decorating Center scheduled my measurement and then the installation, they provided a 1 hour window. This was a refreshing practice. I'm used to being given a three or four hour window with the technicians often showing up late.
Kirk was the individual who handled the measurement. He arrived within 15 minutes of the scheduled time frame. He was neat and clean and knew what he was doing and made several astute technical observations about how the carpet would have to be cut and which way the grain would have to lie.
The installer showed up within 15 minutes of the appointed time. He was a professional. He was mindful our home and our belongings and cleaned-up after himself. The carpet looks great.
I give Abbey Decorating Center very high marks and I intend to use them again shortly for my next flooring project. They (the Store and its employees) reflected the professional values that really matter to me. The individuals I encountered were smart, neat and presentable. They are knowledgeable and accommodating. THEY HAD THEIR ACT TOGETHER! If you are tired of dealing with bozos, this is the place to go. They were slightly more expensive than the neighboring big home improvement store (the did it for $3,229 versus $2,80 ), but the price difference was negligible in return for the timely professionalism.
I arranged the job ahead of time, then called to confirm the job when it was time, etc. I did the chasing and most of the follow up on the job, not her. She was pleasant enough but her communication skills could have been a bit more on the ball. Many days she seems scattered. (I am a stickler for customer service- so perhaps this would be a minor thing for other people.)
I would not hesitate to use them again. And I'd ask for the Jason Team again. : )
Very helpful with selection and good communication of what to expect and install dates. Did have to reschedule once due to delay in delivery of carpet but rescheduled within a few weeks of original install date. Installation went smoothly. We are very happy with the service and installation of our new carpet.
"Thank you for taking your time to write a review of your experience with our store . We strive to make our customers happy and we are so glad you are enjoying your new flooring."
Abbey did not contact us as our contractor said they would. After moving in we had to contact them. Finally they sent someone out to look things over and agreed we needed to have things fixed and told us that someone would be contacting us to come out to fix the issues. To be honest we played phone tag for a couple of weeks, but eventually they quit returning our calls. Finally we were able to contact Abbey and they sent someone out again to look at the floor (not to fix it). Like the first guy, he came out and looked at the floor and agreed it needed to be fixed. However, same story - nobody came to fix the floor. At this point, we decided to wait until our one year check. At this time we sent out check-list to our builder who had Abbey come out, which they did again - but to only look at the problems - not to fix them. This was the third time someone came to look at the problems and they all agreed. By this time we had also found a fault in our linoleum, were unhappy with our carpeting (obvious seam problem, and rapid aging of the carpet, nails that were sticking out and cutting our feet), and as before, the wood flooring.
In addition to original problems with our wood flooring, we now had a problem because of a faulty part on our refrigerator that caused the ice maker/water dispenser to leak which caused addition damage to the wood flooring. By now, Whirlpool was involved and had agreed to pay the necessary repairs that were caused by the leaky refrigerator. Subsequently, a fourth visit was made by Abbey and that guy acknowledged the linoleum problem and he was able to fix it while he was here to our satisfaction. He also hammered the nails into the carpet fixing that problem. However, when he looked at the seam, he basically poo pooed that as a natural occurrence with carpeting. Going into the building of our home, we knew we were getting builder's grade carpeting, but that doesn't excuse faulty installation. We had previously lived in 3 new homes with builders' grade carpeting and never had this sort of problem. Our carpeting looks much more worn after living in this house for not even 2 years compared to what we experienced with our previous homes. We considered "upgrading" to a higher quality of carpeting, but after seeing the difference in price we knew it would be much cheaper later on. Finally, getting to the wood flooring this gentleman agreed the original problems needed to be fixed, and told me someone would be getting an estimate to us to submit to Whirlpool to have the rest of the flooring repaired as well. This never happened. We waited. We called. Finally, we received estimates from 2 other flooring companies (Not Abbey) and had the work done.
Every person Abbey sent out agreed that things needed fixed, but we could never get someone to come out and fix them. The bottom line is we felt like Abbey already had our money and wasn't interested in ensuring we were even reasonably satisfied.
In the past, we had used Abbey Decorating to purchase a few items for our previous home. We had been satisfied, even pleased, with them in the past.
At this time, we do not plan on using Abbey Decorating again, and we are sharing this information with others who may be in the market for items of this nature. For sure, Abbey has lost our future business, and we recommend the same to others.
We have contacted them many times on these issues. They hammered in the staples and filled the gouges with putty which look terrible but at least are not hurting our feet to walk on anymore.
The humidity level in the house is at 40% and they have told us it is too dry. Although they have also stated that the humidity should range between 35-45%.
Cliff, who filled the gouges and filled the staple holes with putty and was very nice to work with, told us that he thought the floor was terrible and said he would be angry also. He took many pictures on his cell phone while he was here. He also stated that they probably would not replace the floors like they should but would merely sand them and put a clear finish on them which would not fix the problem.
We would like to get these problems with our wood floors rectified but Abbey Decorating has not followed up on our complaints yet and this has been going on for a year already.
"Thanks for the great review! Keep us in mind for any future projects! :-)"
The installer actually had to make two trips to the house as he found on the originally scheduled date that a leaking water valve on the toilet needed to be replaced before he could proceed. No problems at all with the delay as they rescheduled as soon as a plumber made repairs.
"Thanks for the great review! Keep us in mind for any future projects! :-)"
