RATE ONE REMODELING

From the time we got a quote until they started work was a couple of months. They started in winter, tore off the old roof, and then stopped work for several days while snow and ice built up on the bare roof. They broke some cast iron furniture in the backyard (threw something on it, maybe?). When they did come out to work, it was slow going with 1 or 2 guys up on the roof. One day I knew they were up there, but I didn't hear any work for a long time, just the boom box blaring. I went out back and looked up, and the guy was laying on the roof, apparently sleeping. This roofless situation dragged on for over a week. We finally complained, and they sent out a larger crew who finished the roof in 1 1/2 days. Unfortunately, they did a very poor job. Shingles were buckled, sticking up, crooked, etc. They barely cleaned up, shingles and nails everywhere in the lawn and gardens. We called the city inspector to come out, and learned from him that Rate One hadn't pulled a permit to do the work! They got a permit, then came out and hammered in a few of the nails that were not properly nailed in so the shingles would lie a little flatter, but it still looked terrible. The inspector had them come back out and pull up some shingles and reapply tar (or something) which I was told broke the seal. We finally got sick of the whole thing and signed off on the job. A couple of weeks later, a salesman from another roofing company came to the door and said that he noticed that our roof was damaged, and would a like to have them give me a quote? We've had guests comment on our "damaged" roof, too.

THEY DIDN'T HIRE GOOD SUB'S. THEY DIDN'T CALL BEFORE THEY CAME OUT. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE SIDING 3 TIMES, AND THE ROOF TWICE. THEY HAD VERY BAD COMMUNICATION. THEY ARGUED ABOUT PRICING AND TRIED TO SAY THE JOB WAS DONE RIGHT WHEN IT WAS NOT.

Because we hadn't confirmed the appointment time, they did not keep the appointment, and we wasted our Saturday morning. Just be aware that an appointment with this company isn't really an appointment unless it's confirmed the day before.

MATT WAS PROFESSIONAL AND FRIENDLY. HE DIDN'T SEEM TO KNOW HIS PRODUCTS OR HOW TO WRITE UP AN ESTIMATE. HE CAME OUT WITH ANOTHER PERSON AND THAT PERSON, DAVE GOT BACK TO ME PROMPTLY WITH ESTIMATES. THE ESTIMATES WERE OVER $9000. MORE THAN OTHER COMPANIES ESTIMATING THE SAME WORK. I GOT THIS COMPANY'S NAME FROM A SERVICE ON THE INTERNET WHICH I WISH I COULD REMEMBER THEIR NAME. IT WAS SOMETHING LIKE SERVICE MASTER.
