Home Building
We purchased a home from Minks and bid out another customer for this
house (whoever we bid out, we saved you a tremendous amount of
heartache). At our year walk through showed Minks that the stain on all
of the cabinets, doors and trim was flaking off. They argued that we
were cleaning the wood to aggressively and then said it was common up
keep to have to re-stain your cabinets and woodwork. They even brought
out a stain specialist from Hirschfields to look at the stain. The found
that the painter somehow watered down all the stain and Minks agreed to
re-do the cabinet and door fronts. They brought our cabinets back
several weeks later saying they had trouble getting the stain to adhere
to the wood. Everything looked okay so we accepted the work they had
done. Now a few years later the stain is peeling off of everything
thing, from the windows, the doors, the cabinets, and the trim. we are
looking at over $35,000 to repair and replace the wood work. We have
called Minks/ Capstone Custom Homes several times and never hear back.
If you are even thinking about using this builder run the other way!!!
We are going to have to replace all the cabinets, trim, doors and
re-stain the wood work because of they chose to water down the stain and
one applied one coat of stain. HORRIBLE BUILDER - PLEASE TAKE A OUR
ADVICE AND RUN THE OTHER WAY!!!

Home Building
We purchased a new home in July of 2011. Our home was being built as a model so we did not go through the building process or make selections regarding finishings. Had some trouble just prior to closing because the sprinkler system and sod needed to be in but this was mostly due to the weather not permitting installation. They do a walk through the day before purchase, 30 days after, and one year after. Issues that were brought up then (dent in garage door, scratch in sink) or at other times (rattling sound in the vents were dealt with very quickly and replaced or fixed. Phil, the person who come out to fix/replace concerns, is great and easy to deal with. Our biggest complaint about the house is the stupid flat paint that apparently a lot of builders use and the carpet. The carpet is not the highest quality and looks crushed in high traffic areas even when vacuumed on a regular basis. I know our neighbors have the same complaints about the paint and the carpet.
We had the house inspected by THREE inspectors (one before the offer, and another plus my uncle who is an inspector before closing) and checked with the BBB before buying. Even if you don't "need" and inspection with new construction, do it anyway! None found any major problems.
I love the lay out of the house, lots of storage and space for our family. I think we got a good price per square foot. Overall we are happy with our choice.
