The floors turned out beautiful. Can barely tell the difference between the new floors and old. Took a bit longer than desired for initial quote due to some scheduling difficulties, but were apologetic and dos their best given the circumstances. For scheduling, they squeezed us in after a cancellation which saved us waiting a month for the next available time slot. We are very grateful for this!

Couldn't have asked for or received better service and communication from the estimator to the administrative staff in the office to the workers who refinished the floor. From start to finish, we were kept apprised of progress on the job and moving back into the house. We also were given great written advice about floor care after the job was completed. The floors look beautiful, nothing was missed. I would absolutely use Excel again and will refer friends to them.

Johnny and his crew did this project in 2 phases; the 2nd floor and stairs were done in November. This part took 5 days. The 1st floor was done in April and took 3 days. There were 2-4 workers present at all times. Johnny was the lead installer and the others workers rotated in and out depending on the workload. They worked a normal day; once they asked to stay late so they could get the stain down ahead of schedule.

The crews were efficient, professional, and worked non-stop. The quality of their workmanship is outstanding. The crew spent hours on dust removal and there was very little clean-up needed after they were gone. 

The stairs were expensive; $4500 for 2 sets of 8 stairs plus the landing. It was worth every penny. They are stunning, so much prettier than carpet. We had an area where new hardwood was laced into existing. The join is perfect. You cannot tell where the two meet. 

Cindi and Troy were excellent to work with as well, providing information when requested and cheerfully tolerating our numerous questions.

I hope they are still around when it's time to refinish.

Troy had his crew finish in two days so we could get in the house and paint. The floors finish is flawless. The care took the extra step of removing the refrigerator grill to make sure of complete coverage. They wiped down the counters. The rooms were as dust free as possible. Awesome job done! I'd highly recommend them for any work.

I loved the work that Troy and his team did. On time every day. I was surpirsed at how little dust there was. Not to say we did not have some but I had expected worse. They did a great job, finished on time and we love the new floors.

Fabulous experience! Great communication, professionalism, and skill. Gorgeous result. We have a 12 year old engineered red oak floor that had been deeply scratched and pitted by a large dog. Troy was recommended to us by Village Floor in Blaine, MN as one of only two wood floor experts they would trust with such a badly damaged, fragile floor. Troy came out and examined the floor carefully, then sat down with us at length and explained options, potential costs, risks of putting money into the existing floor, and a best guess about how durable it might be after sanding and finishing. We also asked for and received a quote to replace the carpeting in a long hallway with solid red oak flooring and to replace the entire wood floor with solid oak. Because of our current budget, we opted to sand and refinish the existing floor, knowing full well that it is a temporary solution that leaves the existing floor weakened (engineered hardwood floors have a pretty thin layer of hard wood). We also had him tear out the hallway carpeting and install solid red oak flooring in preparation for the day when we can afford to replace the remainder of the floor. We had to be gone from the house for three days and nights because of the large area being sanded and finished. When we returned home, I could hardly believe my eyes. The old and new floors are so closely matched a visitor would have a hard time telling them apart. The old, damaged floor is now incredibly beautiful. The new solid oak floor is even more so. The detail that went into making the transitions between wood floor and carpeted areas, wood floor and vinyl floor areas, and joining old and new wood reflect great skill and artistry. Troy sent us detailed instructions about how to care for our floor and spoke to me on the phone again about how to protect the older, weakened floor to make it last as long as possible. We feel very well informed. I have to say the skill and workmanship from Excel Wood Flooring is outstanding and a thing of true beauty. I can hardly wait until we have enough money saved to have them come out again and replace the entire floor. It is so beautiful.

The experience was very positive. We were nervous about the whole process because it was very important to us that the floors were done well. Troy and his staff did a very thorough job and the finished product has been the source of compliments from many who have visited our house since the work was done.

The experience was good. They provided open communication, which is always key. They seemed to do a high quality job. I have no complaints.

The overall experience was fair. It started off well with the communication quite open and friendly. I chose this company because my general contractor recommended them. I did reference checks but they were not currently on Angie's List. I did receive bids from Angie's flooring contractors. The Xcel bid was at the time slightly higher but since Xcel worked with my contractor, I went with them. The crew always showed up when they said they would. There were always plenty of crew members to do the job. I never knew though who was the lead for they seemed to come and go and do completely different jobs. It made it difficult to know that I was communicating with the correct person. The stairs and the lacing that was completed was an incredible job. The crew worked with me to figure out the appropriate stain color. The carpet from the stairs to hallway transition ended up with a large snag. When I called the owner on it he said that would happen with old carpets. The carpet is only 3 years old. He said I needed to bring in my own carpet person to fix it or they could for more cost put in hardwood in the hallway. Once the final coat was placed on the floor, I found streaking throughout. I called in to the office very upset. I first said I would just have to live with it because it was such an inconvenience of moving out of the house. I changed my mind after the weekend. I called again and the owner came by that day. He did agree that something appeared to have gone wrong with the finish. He agreed to refinish at his cost. We had to move out again...more cost for us at a hotel...When we came back, two crew members showed up that same day to do finish work. I was not expecting them but was pleased to see them because there was a rather large drip spot. They fixed it immediately. The streaking was still present though not as evident. I did not call the office right away...nor did they check with me. After about 3 weeks, I called again and said it was not acceptable. The owner came out again and agreed that the streaking was still there. We kept a portion of the final payment off and agreed it would be paid in the future when and if the streaking disappeared.

Overall, we're very happy with our floors. On the first of 3 day's work, the head of the crew was very knowledgeable and trustworthy but, he was moved to a different job by the second day, leaving the work to the younger crew. There was more cosmetic issues than we expected to deal with.
