"[Member Name Removed] sorry to hear about your troubles with the service. I would like to assist you and taking care of the issue. We do apologize for the delay with the fall clean up. The leaves fell mid November and snow arrived early December. We were close to finishing up all our fall clean ups but the snow really put it all on pause. We are expecting some rain this weekend, so we are hoping to stop by on Monday to pick up the pile of leaves. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We hope you will reconsider using our services. Thanks very much."
I have been using superior lawn for a couple of seasons of mowing and a couple of seasons of snow removal.
Generally, superior tries to be responsive, and if you are there when they perform the service, the guys who come listen, and you can point out what is missed.
However, quality issues when I can't be here to watch are abundant (not fully plowing...leaving snow in front of the garage - not fully mowing all the grass - some long and short patches -also reasonably they don't mow the neighbor's grass that attached to my lawn ...but they also don't my grass (in my property line) that is attached to my other neighbor's side). I've also received complaints from my neighbor about their quality.
The most time consuming aspect of dealing with Superior is the repeated billing errors (only fixed promptly when I involve my credit card company) and the occasionally missed service. I have literally dozens of emails to them to them over the couple of years. (e.g., when we had 14 inches of snow on Sunday in Feb 2015, they did not come until Monday night after emails and phone calls - they did their bigger customers first) Their record keeping is not reliable -- they have billed me for times they don't come...to the extent that I've had to record when they do in order to make sure the bill is right. They have hired an account manager recently...but not too much improvement yet. still waiting for my last bill to be fixed.
"Hi [removed member name], We are very sorry for the delayed services this winter season. Mechanical problems in your area have slowed us down this season. These problems have been rectified and going forward will not be an issue. Again, Jonathan we never want any customer unhappy with our services and pride ourselves in customer service. Unfortunately, these problems were in your area so they affected you in a negative way. Again Sorry for This Happening. Brandon Superior Lawn Care"
Superior lawn care is a completely incompetent company. When I first met with them in Oct 2014, Naji Kahala assured me that they had a plan for getting my lawn healthy and weeds under control and by spring I would see a major improvement. I was disappointed from the beginning in scheduling etc. but since I had contracted with them and did not have the time to search for an alternative, I continued to go with them. And I wanted to give them the benefit of doubt till SPring.
Spring did arrive and I kept pleading with Naji to get me scheduled for weed and feed treatment as the lawn was very sparse and weeds were beginning to take over. As usual, it took forever to hear back and schedule and in the end service was never performed. I also wanted them to hand pull a few weeds and clear some pebbles frm the lawn area. I was charged for 12 MAN HOURS of weed pull and pebble clearing and there was practically NO improvement in either weeds or pebbles in the lawn. Then the big rains came and overnight I had a lawn full of weeds with no improvement in the lawn itself. Complained again to Naji and this time I got a response -- believe me this was after I had been charged $2000 for services that did more damage then benefit to the lawn -- that basically they had reached the end of the road in treating the lawn and would not even attempt a weed and feed program. They wanted me to spend $14K for a complete top soil treatment and re-seeding... basically saying that the lawn we had was completely useless and we had to start over again. Oh, BTW, they would "credit me" for the $2K I had already spent! Totally laughable and not sure how gullible they thought I was!
I told Naji to go to h*** and found an alternative vendor -- to cut the lawn and weeds and do a weed and feed treatment. I must say in one week my lawn looks better than it ever has before and I truly believe in a 2-3 month timeframe, I will have the lawn I have dreamt of. And this for a total of <$1000 in weed and feed treatments.
Superior can do a perfectly adequate job if ALL YOU WANT IS MOWING SERVICES. I would recommend you NOT hire them for anything that requires true understanding of lawn/landscape... they are not equipped to handle that type of work. You will be frustrated like me and left to find alternative vendors at the last minute.
1. Answered phone all 3 times I called.
2. Representative showed-up on time for appointment to provide quote
3. Started work just after the 3 week quote time (which is fine given the rain we have had)
The OK...
1. The work was completed satisfactorily and grass seams to be growing.
2. I thought some of the dirt could have been spread finer in places (several and quot;chunksand quot; the size of softballs were in the repaired area).
What could have been better...
1. I expected to be called either before or after the work was done to know to keep the seed watered. I found it completed by after returning from a business trip.
2. I would have expected straw to be put on the new seed. It was not although it showed-up as and quot;seed and strawand quot; on the invoice as a line item.
Talking with a representative...
1. Said that straw is sometimes used and considered and quot;freeand quot; so not charged for this was in the 'seed and straw' line item. It was not free when I went to the garden center and bought it. They said I should have called and they would have come back for free. I figured if it was not done right the first time, why try to call back and hope it is the second time.
2. Said they are too busy to call before/after unless specifically requested by client.
3. Offered to do anything to make me happy with the service. It's not that I'm unhappy, rather I just think the experience could have been better.
Overall...
It was an OK experience but I would probably try my luck with another vendor next time.
We recognize that this past winter was unusually severe in Michigan, and that Superior must have been overwhelmed by demand on their labor force and their equipment. But they could have told us that, and kept us informed.
Needless to say, we are looking for a new snow removal service for next winder.
There are many details to this but the core issues were these:
- Very poor communication: There were MULTIPLE no-call/no-show occurrences - including the VERY FIRST appointment, which was just to get an assessment. I totally get it, problems with equipment happen, but there's no reason why someone...anyone...from their company couldn't call and say and quot;Hey, we had a problem, can we schedule another time.and quot;
- I cancelled the mowing service on a Monday/Tuesday.....and came home on Thursday to a freshly cut lawn. When I called to find out why the lawn was cut, the person I spoke with did not know.
The pricing was affordable, and the people I spoke with were always pleasant, but coming home after multiple sunny days and finding that the service you paid for wasn't done - and no one has called with an update - was frustrating. There were times when I called and they could not locate my information, so I had to constantly re-explain what I paid for.
As for the quality of the work, the mowing and edging was fine, about what I expected, but they would not mow under our trampoline for some reason (I understand why they didn't move it). The detatching and weeding was ok; I found a broken fence board that I'm sure was done by them, but it's an old fence, so I'm moving forward just to be done with it all.
I do not plan to use them again.
