I cannot express how pleased we are with ALL of the work that Mark and his guys did on our house. We had him start with our master bathroom and then moved to other areas of the house since we were so impressed with his crew and the quality of work being done.
Description of Work: We had a bathroom for the early 2000's and wanted to update.
Smoothly, completely, within estimate. Great crew working in my home for several months and perfect suggestions from Mark Ellis, Builder. Mark renovated my previous home, also, and I could not imagine working with anyone else.

We recently finished our second home project with Mark and his team. We didn’t bother shopping around this time but went right back to Mark because we knew what we were getting – high quality, beautiful work. This was a complete bathroom gut and renovation, including moving plumbing and electrical. Mark was on top of communications, letting us know what to expect all along the way. He gave suggestions and advice when asked but never pushed us toward one thing or another. Mark’s team was great to work with again also. No matter who showed up on site that day they were always respectful and courteous, keeping a clean job site and making sure they weren’t disturbing us more than necessary (which was challenging given that we were working from home most days!) I continue to recommend this crew to anyone who is looking to renovate their home, and I am already looking forward to our next project together. Thanks Mark Ellis Builders!

Do not hire this Builder he is unprofessional. I had two appointments in which he picked the date and time, the first he never allows or showed after waiting I called him and he finally answered stating his father was in emergency. Well I told him I was sorry for his situation but I did travel across town for the appointment and would appreciate a call or text next time. I asked if he would like to reschedule as I felt bad for the situation and wanted to give him a chance, so he picked the date and time, changes it once again and did not show or call nor did he answer his phone. With so many other contractors who can be on time to appointments and are professional to promptly return calls and apologize if they waste your tim’s ..why would anyone pick Mark Ellis Builders do yourself a favor and look elsewhere as he wastes about 2 weeks of my time when I could have reached out to someone else.

I can’t say enough about Mark and his team, they are experts, and exceptional to work with. I contacted Mark to remodel my Mothers condominium, he was prompt, helpful, and offered creative solutions. Mark is very detail oriented and committed to giving his customers the highest quality at a fair price. He and his team treated my Mom’s place with such care, professional and respectful. Mark truly listened to what my Mom’s needs were, and I appreciated how he Included me in communications throughout the process. I begged him to never retire, I wouldn’t want to work with anyone else after such a wonderful experience!

My 41 year old condo looks as if it’s had a face lift by the best surgeon around. As in fact it has, As builders are the facelift providers for homes, Mark Ellis may certainly be the best around. He can be relied upon for unerring design advice as well as impeccable craftsmanship. Every room in my 2-story townhouse style condo, including a walkout lower level, was redone from ceilings to new floorings by the most considerate crew of experienced trades people. In addition to the beauty of the finished product and the quality of the workmanship, another attribute of Mr. Ellis which should be mentioned is his attention to detail and concern for the client. He remains in close contact with the client to ascertain needs, to discuss ongoing work, and is speedily responsive via text and telephone at all times. I am positively delighted with my new home and will only consider Mr. Ellis for any additions or changes in the future.

Mark and his team did a fantastic job with our half bath/laundry room reno. Mark was very responsive and asked questions all along the way to ensure he understood what we wanted. He was also willing to provide his opinion if he thought something else would look better, but was never pushy. His team was very punctual and respectful, arriving on time and cleaning up after themselves every day. The quality of the work is excellent. They don't cut corners - they care about doing it the right way. I'm already thinking about my next project, and when I'm ready, I'll definitely call Mark!
Description of Work: Complete renovation of half bath and laundry room
Mark just completed a gut remodel of our kitchen and dining room, and we are absolutely thrilled with the results. After searching far and wide for a contractor who would even return our phone calls, we stumbled upon Mark here on Angie's List. At first it seemed too good to be true: Mark was punctual, professional, not booked out six months in advance, and quoted us a reasonable rate (less than 1/2 of what the "remodel companies" in town wanted). Within two weeks our project was underway. I can honestly say that it was a pleasure to work with Mark throughout the course of the remodel. Probably my favorite part was the communication. Mark is detail-oriented, a patient listener, and I always felt like my requests were taken seriously and acted upon without having to repeat myself. During the two months he worked on our house, we texted back and forth constantly, and it never took longer than an hour to get a response from him. As others have noted, he and his crew are insanely punctual, to the point where we literally stopped setting our alarm in the morning. They worked six and sometimes seven days a week to get our job done as quickly as possible. Our old, crooked house presented some unique difficulties with regards to plumbing, drywall, cabinetry, and flooring. Mark creatively worked around all of them. We had some minor requests and modifications along the way. I am given to understand that many remodelers would label those "change orders" and jack up the price, but Mark obligingly and uncomplainingly took care of all of them. There were a few "major changes" revolving around plumbing and insulation, which Mark emphasized were optional but recommended we take care of. The added costs seemed entirely reasonable, and at no point did we feel like he was trying to nickel and dime us. This was our first major home remodel and I almost feel like we got lucky. The project turned out exactly as we had hoped, better really; we stayed approximately within budget; and other than the unavoidable issue not having a kitchen for two months, the entire process was relatively painless. I have other projects in mind and will certainly hire Mark in the future.

Mark Ellis and his assistants did a wonderful job of reverse hanging 2 doors for us. The work was very well executed, and he and his assistants are people I will definitely hire again for the next project.
Description of Work: 2 doors rehung, caulked & sanded
We purchased our home in Ann Arbor Township approximately one year prior to engaging Ellis Builders. I am delighted with our new room. The workmanship is top notch and attention to detail superb. Mr Ellis worked with us to refine our design goals and was quick to see both flaws and potential in our plan. He was not deterred by obstacles but did his research to discover the best way around a problem not previously encountered. We made a “team” and that was awesome. EllisBuilders also did a good bit of repair work on the exterior of the house and minor problem solving and repairs on the interior. I was familiar with A kitchen remodeling done by this company before we engaged them for our projects. We were not disappointed!
Description of Work: Converted a dilapidated porch to an all season room.
My wife and I had Mark Ellis recently completely renovate our bathroom. We were installing a new tub, vanity, tile flooring, tile surround, and installing a shower niche. We knew going in that there was at least some water damage in the subfloor from the previous owner’s poor work (They had laid a vinyl floor over the previous floor and failed to seal it properly along the tub). After getting in contact with him, Mark met with us in our home to go over the scope of the project and to discuss our budget. Mark was the third contractor we met with and he was by far the one with the most reasonable budget and the only one who would explain his quote in any detail. He was also very clear in his communication for what the project entailed, what he needed from our end, and when he’d be free from other jobs to handle our project. We did have to email him a few times after the initial conversation in order to get a solidified start, but once we had confirmation from him they started the next day. My wife and I also both work nights, and Mark was very good at communicating when his crew would be coming in so we could prepare and we were both very thankful for that. The people on Mark’s crew were all very respectful of our house and did great work. I was honestly impressed with how clean everything was once they had finished. Once the project started, Mark’s crew was on site 5 days a week working full days. If there was ever a day in the week they couldn’t come in, like for Thanksgiving, they still came that Saturday to help keep the project on time. The only hiccup in the entire project was after they had finished the demo, there was water damage on the exterior wall that neither parties had anticipated. As soon as they found out, Mark met with us and described to us how he’d be able to solve the problem and exactly how it would affect our budget. The entire project stayed on time and within the budget we agreed upon. We had the same crew working on our house every day, so they were able to work efficiently and all of them knew the expectations for the project. My wife and I are both extremely satisfied by the final product, and by the work and conduct of his entire crew. We plan on using Mark for our future projects and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable contractor.

The shower surround in my rental's bathroom failed and required the entire shower to be replaced. We ended up remodeling the entire bathroom and are very happy with the results. We don't live in the area anymore and this was our first remodel. Mark walked us through the process remotely and took care of the small details that we didn't think of so that the whole bathroom just looks amazing. He not only re-did the bathroom, but also fixed all of the issues that were a result of the previous owners doing their own plumbing/electrical work in a suboptimal way. He was also very responsive to any of my concerns throughout the entire process. My only regret is that we no longer live there to enjoy the final product. Next time I need anything done, I'm definitely going to call him.
Mark and his crew started by remodeling my last remodeled 70’s kitchen by tearing it out, and starting with a clean slate. They removed a bank of cabinets to open up the area so that it blended with the family room. The floor was tiled, new cabinets installed, a granite counter top installed, backsplash applied. I really appreciated Mark’s knowledge in selecting materials and and helping me make decisions. I couldn’t have such a beautiful kitchen without his guidance. I love the kitchen because it is modern and updated, and my neighbors and family are amazed because it looks larger and is such an improvement over the old kitchen. It is so easy to work in. Mark also replaced my front door with a beautiful new door that lets more light into my hallway. The keypad lock is something that I love, and again, my family and neighbors love the door. The crew also put up a new mantle on my fireplace, and tiled the fireplace, as well all the hallway in front of the new door. They also painted all the public rooms, in new, bright colors, so the whole inside of the house looks new, and not a throwback from the 1960’s. His crew was hard working, very professional, and were very conscious of keeping the workplace clean and organized. My dog happily greeted them every morning and was looking for them every day. Mark and the crew were easy to get along with, and really concerned with doing a great job. Mark had all the details in his head, and they worked constantly to make sure all the small stuff was done and the whole job was well done. He really enjoys the whole process. The guys showed up at 6 am (when my dog got me up every day) ready to go. Before they left for the day, they cleaned up and organized for the next day. I am so thrilled with the inside if the house, we are now getting ready to have Mark and his crew take care of the outside of the house. Mark arranged to have the roof reroofed, and replaced the skylight that were leaking. There are other things that still need to be redone, since nothing was done on the outside since the 60’s, including a new deck, new gutters, and woodwork. I am so pleased with the inside, and I am sure that the outside will be just as good.
Description of Work: Kitchen redo, front door replaced, painting
We had a plumbing disaster that required some walls and ceilings and kitchen cabinets and a stone tile backsplash and lights and paint and more to be removed and replaced afterward. Mark Ellis and his team did it all, including adjusting the work when the problem turned out to be more extensive than we originally thought. The drywall work is really good and doesn't give any hint that there were once gaping holes (far better than some previous repairs by someone else that are still visible). His team is able to do all kinds of repairs and construction, and adapt to changing requirements. When I mentioned some additional things that also needed doing, they were right on top of it and got those done quickly also. What stands out the most about Mark Ellis is the level of attention and service. You have probably had, or heard about, contractors who show up late or don't return calls or disappear for days with no explanation. Mark Ellis was the exact opposite of that. He and his team showed up early every day until it was done. When something needed to be spaced out in time in order to dry, they also showed up on Saturday. Whenever he said he would be here by 7:00am the next day, he would be here around 6:45am even in snowstorms. He always kept us informed, and was very quick to respond to all phonecalls and texted questions.
Description of Work: Removal and replacement of walls, ceilings, cabinets, and much more after a plumbing problem.
Mark and his team did a wonderful job on our house renovation(s). While the primary project was a bathroom reservation, we had a list of over 100 items to fix from when we moved into the house and Mark was able to help with nearly all of them. We went from being stressed every time we looked around the house because to being able to breathe easy knowing we could call Mark if anything goes wrong (as it just did when our pipes froze in Jan 2018). The list of projects has included: Master bath/closet renovation (down to the studs, moving walls, etc ... pictures attached), Kids bath renovation, replacing two walls from the outside in, blowing in new insulation, a new large shed (pictures attached), adding a wall around an unsafe spiral staircase, addressing poor original house design that allowed pipes to freeze, replacing the ceiling of a bathroom that suffered water damage, correcting issues with siding all around the house and fixing gable vents, removing warped walls in the basement to look for foundation issues, fixing some laminate floor boards that were out of place, adding heating elements to the roof, and removing a rotting, dangerous pergola. During the remodel, Mark and his team were on time every day, even when it was snowing or icy (they would just show up early and snowblow!). Unforeseen issues (like a pre-existing issue in the original design of the house where the furnace vent was routed incorrectly) were met with options and then quick resolutions. One of the best parts of working with Mark is that any issues/concerns are addressed without question. We don't go more than an hour before getting a response to questions (and it is often minutes), even a year after the main work ended. Every day of the main remodel he asked for feedback and quickly adjusted course as needed.
Mark Ellis Builders tackled the problem of our dilapidated, hundred-year-old carriage house with creativity, pragmatism, and efficiency. The building was originally a barn, but had been a bare-bones rental for many years, and it was in pretty rough shape. My husband and I are typically DIYers (we had already installed new windows throughout), but the bathroom was beyond our skillset (the subfloor was rotted out beneath the 4 or 5 layers of linoleum). We were so pleased with the quality of the work and so convinced of the team's competency that we expanded the project to include insulating under the first-story floors, remodelling the kitchen, and installing an upstairs closet and laundry room. We had expected the finished product to be basic-rustic, but fully functional. Instead, five weeks after we were at dirt and daylight-through-the-walls (see pics), we have this lovely house that has the charm of its history but functions like a proper modern home. The challenges of the project (no plumb walls, no right angles, the overall age of the building, etc.) required several creative work-arounds. I really appreciated how Mark and his team brought a lot of ideas to the conversation, yet sought and heard our ideas well. It was a positive experience overall and we fully intend to hire Mark Ellis Builders again in the future.
Description of Work: We needed to gut and completely redo a bathroom with a rotted subfloor, add a laundry closet, insulate floors, and redo an outdated kitchen in an old house.

Mark and his crew were amazing. Mark worked with me on the design and steered me towards a good option in siding and worked within our budget. I am beyond happy with how quickly they were able to fit us in and get the siding replaced. They even painted my garage doors (both were an ugly orange color from the previous owner) and replaced the glazing in the side garage winter to match the main house. I'm so excited about how everything turned out and I'm looking forward to this spring to add some landscaping to it! Thank you again!!!
Description of Work: We had a small electrical fire at the house that unfortunately burnt quite a bit of brush around our garage and warped the siding. Thankfully a neighbor who was home put the fire out herself so no further damage was done but we needed the siding to be repaired quickly and professionally before this winter hit.

We hired Mark to demolish two bathrooms in our house. He and his crew were professional, punctual, and overall did a great job. Our house was build in 1960 and the bathrooms were build more like a bomb shelter than a bathroom. However, they did a thorough job with gutting both bathrooms to studs. In Ann Arbor market where hiring any skilled worker is expensive, I believe that Mark charges quite fairly for the work that he does.
