The following Spring, I decided to give TruGreen another chance. I contacted them and setup an appointment which took another 30 days before someone could show-up. The man arrived in mid-May to do the initial treatment. Dandelions had already been blooming prior to the visit as well as crabgrass. This was the pre-emgergent treatment for weeds. Obviously, the weeks had already begun to grow. A few days later a different man arrived to treat the trees and shrubs with fertilizer. In July, TruGreen came to treat the lawn for grubs. I called them to come back since the weeds were still taking over the lawn. TruGreen came back and sprayed for weeds. In July they came and sprayed for weeds, grubs and added more fertilizer. Each time, it appears I had a different expert. I initially asked for a copy of my lawn care program or maintenance plan. TruGreen was suppose to take samples of my soil so their experts could determine what treatments needed to be applied to my lawn. Each time a person arrived for treatment, I asked if they were taken samples for analysis. Each time, nothing was taken. I am paying for a lawn analysis and treatment based on soil samples and other information, but I have NOT received any details about my soil conditions, etc.. A new person, but a former employee came at the end of August to fertilize the lawn again.
I was told from Satellite images that my lawn was a certain size and the complete treatment would be around $500. I have a neighbor who lives downstate who has a much larger lawn surface area than mine, and they were being charged $300 from TruGreen. My weeds are still flourishing despite their treatments. I was told to water my lawn. I informed the last TruGreen man that I have an irrigation system that waters the lawns twice everyday and that the brown color of the grass is not due to any lack of water. I thought perhaps that the lawn was damaged by fertilizer burn. He stated that it was a grass fungus that was killing the lawn. I wasn't given the name of this and quot;fungusand quot;! When you call the local TruGreen number you always reach their headquarters service center and have to talk to a tele-marketing agent. I am paying for a green lawn, but now it is brown and green. I never got the lawn analysis I paid for either. TruGreen should be back to aerate my lawn and then I'm done with them. I will do it myself next year!
Unfortunately, it has not improved at all. Still large patches of crab grass. Many patches without grass.
The 'personalized service' never happened.
I do give them credit for controlling dandelions.
TruGreen came and applied the lawn treatments on time.
The worst part of the whole experience was trying to cancel the service. I called the 877 number and told the person answering the phone I wanted to cancel. She asked why and I explained.
I was then transferred to another person that asked the same question. I explained, again.
I ended up telling this person, at least half a dozen times, to cancel the service. Each time I was told I would get some deal if I did not stop the service.
I finally got angry enough to hang up.
VERY frustrating.
You may find the service valuable but, it is painful to have them stop.
